I can’t sleep and I’m watching a tv show on really unique delicacies across the world.

It’s got me thinking, what is the most crazy thing you’ve ever eaten?

(I feel like it’s the last day of the 6 weeks holidays and I’m up watching odd stuff all night!)

Tripe curry. Um, interesting...

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 25/01/2021 00:03

Sea cucumber. I thought it was a gherkin type thing.

Roundlampshade · 25/01/2021 00:07

Not me but my exH. Note the EX.

Fruit bat
Field rat
Horseshoe crab.

I didn’t.

We went to China and he ate bear paw while I had egg fried rice.

Treemama · 25/01/2021 00:11

I had escargot (snails) and I enjoyed it at the time but now I don't think I could eat it.

Thelnebriati · 25/01/2021 00:11

I think I must be pretty squeamish because there's a long list of things I wouldn't eat, like tripe or snails. I was served a calves brain but didnt eat it, it was like meat blancmange.
Frogs legs were nice, like prawn flavoured chicken.

HaveeeeYouMetTed · 25/01/2021 00:11

I've eaten whole battered soft shell crab before.

Not particularly crazy I suppose but not what I'd normally eat. In fact, it makes me feel queasy I've eaten that. Crab eyes & all 🤢 I was at a very expensive restaurant for my 18th birthday in London. Meal all paid for & I didn't feel like I could say no.

Choccorocco · 25/01/2021 00:12

Tarantulas... Crunchy!

KaleKitchen · 25/01/2021 00:13

Andouillette de Troyes Sausage. Envisage boiled guts with vomit gravy and that about sums it up. Revolting.

Saracen · 25/01/2021 00:15

Iguana. I was visiting a friend in the Caribbean and he killed it in his garden late at night. People in the area didn't get much meat to eat, so they would feast on whatever they could catch.

I'm sorry to report it didn't taste very exciting - like chicken, as people say about most strange meat.

MaliceOrgan · 25/01/2021 00:15

Soft shell crab is gorgeous, not crazy

Various bugs for me, surprisingly nice www.thebugfarm.co.uk/about-us/grub-kitchen/

BashfulClam · 25/01/2021 00:18

I would not eat snails but happily eat whelks which are basically sea snails. I was given then as a young child so they never seemed odd to me.

DramaAlpaca · 25/01/2021 00:20

I was introduced to fish eyeballs and chicken feet by my Chinese friend. Not an experience I wish to repeat.

fruitlooloo · 25/01/2021 00:21

Cows tongue
Pigeon
Frogs legs

All nice but wasn't aware of what I was actually eating at the time except the pigeon Grin

Funkypickle · 25/01/2021 00:23

Brown stew Iguana as well in the Caribbean and shark on the same island. It was one of the smaller islands and Bush meat is just a dome thing. I'm also too polite to turn down food. And I agree it was like chicken maybe crossed with monk fish(?)

MNerGoneRogue · 25/01/2021 00:24

Various game
Frogs legs
Snails

Cock

Funkypickle · 25/01/2021 00:27

Oh actually I also worked in a restaurant in my teens where I've also had buffalo, moose, bear (fucking disgusting) and emu. I couldn't do beaver it stinks so badly.

warmeduppizza · 25/01/2021 00:28

When the big pillar candle that had been burning on the table got cut in two and out came a fish that was then served to us, that was quite a shocker.

SkiingIsHeaven · 25/01/2021 00:29

Duck flippers. Not good.

Pigs ears. Made me dry heave. Also not good.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 25/01/2021 00:32

Rat, snake, insects, shark, bird nest soup.

Mostly out of politeness when travelling or on work trips.

MNerGoneRogue · 25/01/2021 00:32

And when I was a kid, I was dared to lick a bar of soap 🧼

SpicyEnchiladas · 25/01/2021 00:35

Escargots and a lambs head tagine. Both were so delicious. The tongue was my favourite part.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/01/2021 00:36

Honey ants
Snake

echt · 25/01/2021 00:37

Not sure this counts as eating as I spat it out: fermented shark in Iceland (the country, not the supermarket).

It tastes like shit smells.

MissMarpleDarling · 25/01/2021 00:37

Raw bacon.

GADDay · 25/01/2021 00:37

Lambs brain - gross
Lambs intestine - surprisingly good
Porcupine - pretty good
Ostrich - ok if cooked well
Kangaroo - per ostrich
Elk - delicious and common in Finland
Snails - delicious
