Police round would you think it was the new neighbours?

Live on a small lane in a small village, where most people know everyone's business and who you are if not your name. Moved here 10 years ago as our family business is in the next village, so made home work life balance easier. Get one with all our neighbours and are one really good terms with them all (a lot are elderly so the 3 younger households - laugh at that we all turned 50 in the last couple of years have been helping out shopping etc putting bins out since lock down started)
We had a new neighbour move in across the road mid October never really spoke to anyone, we would wave, say hi and get no response (not just me everyone)
Well today I have had the police round I have been accused of flouting lock down because there has been so many different cars on my drive (police had a list of registration numbers) I must be having people round!!
We have not been and these vehicles belong to our business (which is shut due to covid) so when going up to check on our premises I keep alternating vehicles, to keep them running and charged (as I cannot just abandon our business) all our original neighbours know what we do and joke about different vehicles on the drive all the time, would you think it was the new neighbours?

Probably. Why don't you go and ask them and explain why you have all the different cars there. instead of posting here? Perhaps you could have tried a bit harder to welcome them to the neighbourhood.

Honestly, no one will know who reported it except the person themselves and the police. It might be someone who walks past your house on their daily exercise and blaming your neighbours with no evidence is a bad idea.

I think I would be putting a note through the neighbours door telling them why there are different cars with a nice "welcome to the neighbourhood" passive aggressive comment at the end!

Yes probably, I also wouldn't care though if the police came round and I could prove I'd done nothing wrong, it just shows the system is working and they are taking lockdown breaches seriously.

What do you expect them to do, the system only works if folk report stuff, they don't know you, most people don't have multiple vehicles coming and going from their property each day, would you honestly want them to ignore potential lockdown breaches which will inevitably extend lockdown further?

It does feel annoying to be reported for something you've not done, I once had the RSPCA round to investigate my three skinny, flea ridden brown terriers...

This was easily resolved, as I hadn't got three skinny, flea ridden brown terriers to show them.
I introduced them to a black terrier x, a grey deerhound, a grey lurcher and an orange saluki, which they agreed were not 3, not brown, not skinny and not flea ridden and thus the complaint was at best, mistaken and at worst, malicious.

A waste of everyones time perhaps but it was nice to see that a complaint was taken seriously and investigated.

Why would you care? Someone had a concern, but you're not doing anything wrong so no harm done. I doubt whoever reported you has a personal vendetta.

It feels like you're looking for extra reasons to dislike the new neighbours to be honest. I wouldn't really give it a second thought.

This is a total non-issue.

Pass aggressive note through explaining the different cars incase they thought you had visitors .

If the police had looked up the registrations they would have seen they all belong to the business.

If you say anything to the newbies it could come across wrong. It could be that they like to keep themselves to themselves or are not neurotic typical and find interaction difficult or whatever. Or they are just troublemaking weirdos. Either way I don’t think you’ll win by saying anything.

I would just ignore it. The police will have reported back. They will know it’s legit. I’d continue to wave a cheery hello. And not bitch about them to other neighbours in case it starts something.

Once we see each other again you can perhaps try and interact with them a bit more or see how other neighbours have faired with this and see how you proceed.

Not sure what the problem is here, to anyone who doesn't know you it probably does look like you've had loads of visitors. You've explained it to the police, just knock on their door or pop a note though clearing up the misunderstanding. No need to be passive aggressive or rude.

Don’t put a note through their door!! Yes, there’s a chance it was them, maybe more than likely it was, but don’t start anything with neighbours, it could escalate really badly. You’ve explained it to the police, now just leave it

Tried so many times to wave talk, so totally not looking for an excuse not to like them, and no I would not expect the police to ignore potential breaches, but if they had bothered to talk to any of ours and their new neighbours would never have happened, and doubt anyone walking past would because its such a small village, and as for it being a non event it may seem not much to a lot of people but it was the last thing I needed, after my mums funeral 10 days ago, so excuse me for being a little bit sensitive when you say its a non issue, I am trying to hold myself together so this really did not help. Sorry I posted on here I was just hoping for an objective view rather than an emotional one

My DH runs different cars for work and I’ve wondered if people might think this especially as we only moved in shortly before lockdown

In a small village where everyone knows everyone else's business it's just as likely to be one of the old timers who doesn't like the cars being there.

Someone reported my friend for running an exercise class in her home and breaking lockdown restrictions. Her classes are all online. She uploaded the audio of when the police called in the middle of the class - it was comical. That must have been someone within earshot of her home but she has no idea who.

It could have been anyone it doesn't really matter does it and it's ok for neighbours to want to keep to themselves and have privacy

Sounds like it could be. If you know the rest of the neighbours well they likely know about your business so yes I’d be thinking it was new neighbour. Not sure what you can say though. You’ve done nothing wrong but it’s probably just best to leave it be.

Sounds like it probably was but don’t think about it. Everyone is dealing with this shit show differently and they may be over anxious and May properly have thkight bloody hell the people across the way are having people round all the time ! As they are new they couldn’t easily say ‘what’s going on’. Let it lie. It will have looked odd to someone who doesn’t know and You’ve explained so all is well. Deffo don’t take it personally.

I’m sorry for your loss op, ignore the crap replies. Some are obviously having a bad day on here I’d say it was the new neighbours. I’d Just keep smiling and waving piss them right off!
