Police round would you think it was the new neighbours?

Live on a small lane in a small village, where most people know everyone's business and who you are if not your name. Moved here 10 years ago as our family business is in the next village, so made home work life balance easier. Get one with all our neighbours and are one really good terms with them all (a lot are elderly so the 3 younger households - laugh at that we all turned 50 in the last couple of years have been helping out shopping etc putting bins out since lock down started)
We had a new neighbour move in across the road mid October never really spoke to anyone, we would wave, say hi and get no response (not just me everyone)
Well today I have had the police round I have been accused of flouting lock down because there has been so many different cars on my drive (police had a list of registration numbers) I must be having people round!!
We have not been and these vehicles belong to our business (which is shut due to covid) so when going up to check on our premises I keep alternating vehicles, to keep them running and charged (as I cannot just abandon our business) all our original neighbours know what we do and joke about different vehicles on the drive all the time, would you think it was the new neighbours?

Don’t ever apologise @quicklybeingdrivenmad and I’m very sorry about your mum - I lost my mum three years ago and still miss her like crazy.
Could you write a letter to “The Residents of Village Lane” and explain about your business and the cars and that you were completely exonerated by the police? That way, every person on your road will know exactly why there are so many cars in your drive at any one time.
Good luck & much love ❤️

@BrassyLocks used to work for a garage. So went to work in one car, which may be sold during the morning, come home for lunch in another, which may be sold in the afternoon. come home after work in the third. part of his job perks was a company car, one of the ones for sale.

@squirrelloveranon

Probably. Why don't you go and ask them and explain why you have all the different cars there. instead of posting here? Perhaps you could have tried a bit harder to welcome them to the neighbourhood.

They said hello and were ignored, how could they try harder? Some people are just k nobs and need to be ignored rather than fawned over.

@MummysBusy why would someone parking a car on their own drive bother someone? Unless they were a nosy busybody a-hole?
OP is changing cars on her own drive. Driving one away bringing another back. She's not parking 50 on a residential road.

Are you quite sure your neighbours were "joking" about all your cars? Personally I think its just as likely to be one of them. Lots of people around whose public opinions dont always match their private ones. Maybe the cars are annoying them.

@Tiktokersmiracle

Just next time you see the neighbors you get on with, tell them what happened
I dont know why people don't mind their own business, did they not see you getting out the cars?
I wouldn't mind, but coming to you is such a waste of police resources when they could have looked up the regs.
Yet two houses on our road have flouted every single time, have been reported by the neighborhood watch team and not once have the police turned up other than to warn the lady who coordinates the neighborhood watch that they feel she is harrassing the neighbors by reporting, even though one home has 20+ people in a night.

Your first sentence is contradictory, you wish people wold mind their own business but then reconnect d spreading gossip?

Having watched Neighbours From Hell and the American version Fear Thy Neighbour I'd do nothing.
Its not worth starting a war over. The police have been satisfied with the explanation.

I have got the neighbours from hell, apparently because I rent and they own there's fuck all I can do.....

Probably but 🤷‍♀️ They’ve made themselves look ridiculous. Leave it there.

Sorry OP how annoying for you. Def sounds like the new neighbours. I mean honestly if they’re that concerned why don’t they bother to spy and actually look for your supposed visitors before reporting you to the police. Dumb people! So sorry about your Mum 💔

Things always happen at the worst times.
The main thing is that the police followed up a complaint & are happy with your situation - in fact there is no situation!

Don't say anything to anyone about your thoughts on your new neighbours. They should have got the spite out of their system now & will not make any more complaints. If they do complain again then the police already know what is going on.
Sorry for your lossThanks

Say and do nothing! who ever it was, be it new neighbour or not, it will drive who ever it was CRAZY because its not stopped!

A friend of mine had a neighbour complain multiple times because they didn't understand the concept of bubbles. After multiple complaints, the police went to the complainant and warned them about filing reports maliciously.

I'd leave them to it. Certainly would be posting any notes (it still might not be them).

Say nothing, you have given your explanation to the police and it has been accepted. You have no proof it was your neighbour and maybe they have underlying heath conditions and all these cars coming and going have been causing anxiety to someone.

Your new neighbours did the right thing. Perhaps you could do more to make them feel welcome?

I'm a fleet manager and regularly demo vehicles so one week I'll have an i8, next a Citroen van. One of our neighbours caught me in the street to ask me what I did for a living as she was intrigued. Think she was disappointed I wasn't up to no good 😁

OP, ignore it all. Whoever has done it has hopefully done it for the right reasons and you were able to explain. Life's too short, move on and ignore the shit stirring local showing you old FB posts

I'm fairly sure I would never be welcoming them to the village after that. Totally unjustified intrusion into your life.

I'd tell the nosey neighbour to mind their own fucking business!

Why can't people just worry about themselves? Why is there always one causing trouble?!!

Report
Mumto2leeds · 25/01/2021 18:53

It definately sounds like the neighbours but they haven't done anything wrong. They had concerns that the rules were being flouted and reported it. You say they've not made much effort to talk to you or neighbours but we are in a lockdown and not supposed to be making incessant social contact! Maybe they haven't waved/shouted hi because they don't want to risk getting into a conversation/meeting that would be against the rules. For all you know they could be shielding and terrified of getting Covid. I would just leave it.

Report
Poopoopoo · 25/01/2021 18:51

I don’t like the idea of people reporting other people; makes me think of Nazi Germany. However I don’t like Covid either! I think I would forget about it now and hope it was not the new neighbours. I probably wouldn’t bother myself about them at all, they matter not.

MasterBeth · 25/01/2021 18:49

So sorry for your loss.

It seems like you will never know for sure who reported you. Maybe these people did. Maybe they hold a grudge from a decade ago. Or maybe it was someone else. Is it important now? The police have gone and you have done nothing wrong.

I am sorry for your loss.

Objectively, it probably was them, but not certain.

They didn't find out why you had so many cars on your drive, but also they probably thought there was ongoing breaking of covid rules.

Whether it was them or not they don't seem to want to be friendly, so you probably won't have to more to do with them.

Now you have spoken to Police the matter is sorted. I wouldn't bad mouth them to the neighbours. You were accused, but investigation showed you had done nothing wrong.

I think it a pity that people dont mind their own business and let the police get on with catching criminals.
Yes there is a serious virus around but that does not gve people the right to report on their neighbours.Since lockdowns started many in UK seem to be turning into the Stazi. The UK is nt a police state yet.People should stop being so paronoid and stop being so damm nosey.Counting cars in peoples driveways is wrong.UK is becoming a very unpleasant place to live. A rave with masses attending is one tbing but reporting a neighbour without knowing circumstances is wrong. This kind of thing worries me more than the virus, our freedoms to live our lives seem to be going and will we ever get them back. Not if some in UK have their way, Im amazed to be honest so many people used to freedom have put up with this so long .Our freedoms were hard won,now noone seems to care if we are losing them.
