So much wasted time, so much misinformation.

edition.cnn.com/2021/01/30/health/variants-arrival-future-whats-next/index.html

'A new forecast from the University of Washington's pandemic forecasting team is frightening. Even in a best-case scenario, close to another 200,000 Americans are likely to die between now and May 1.

More than 430,000 Americans have already died in the pandemic, and even if the entire population started doing everything right wearing masks, avoiding gatherings, staying two arms' lengths away from one another the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation predicts at least 130,000 more people would die in the next three months.'

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 31/01/2021 15:43

I'm so sorry about your dad, @lifesabitchandthenyoudie, RIP.

@AcrossthePond55 - and am sorry about your mother, it's horrible not be able to see family when they're ill. (My daughter, in her mid- twenties, is recovering from it now, and as a key worker in the UK, will be getting the vaccine soon, luckily. But it was terrible not to be able to look after her when she was ill, aggravated by my not having seen her for over a year now, and there being no concrete hope that we will see each other any time soon.)

I read a tweet this morning which seemed to say that that terrible woman, MTG. who is friends with the appalling Katie Hopkins is sure to get hers soon, along with Trump. As I can't remember who tweeted it, nor whether they were in a position to justify their certitude, I just put it out there as a ray of hope.

I lost my father to COVID. He also had advanced dementia. In case it helps anyone, the end was very peaceful: the COVID brought on a massive stroke, he became unconscious and unresponsive and died peacefully a few days later. Apparently it can go like this for the very elderly (it’s not always gasping for breath).

lionheart · 31/01/2021 16:14

Sorry to hear that justawoman.

Meanwhile, it looks like exVP Pence is homeless and "couch surfing". Hmm

So sorry for your loss. ThanksThanks

@AcrossthePond55
I'm sorry about your mum, that's such a worry. Thanks

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/01/2021 17:02

Where did the Pences live before January 2017?

Lweji · 31/01/2021 17:10

Rented? 🤷
And didn't sort anything out because another 4 years, or didn't want to upset Trump, possibly.

Blue Georgia. It ain't what it used to be.

Where did the Pences live before January 2017?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Governor%27s_Residence

So he's lived in Government buildings for the last 8 years

Lweji · 31/01/2021 17:12

Pence was the Governor of Indiana before becoming VP, so must have lived at the Residence.

Thank you for this post @justawoman

It's brought me a lot of comfort. I don't worry about her dying per se. She had a wonderful fulfilling life and has been 'ready to go' for a long time. I just don't want her to suffer.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 31/01/2021 17:26

I was about to be very rude about the Pence's lack of organisational skills with regard to their having a home to go to after moving from Washington, but it is logical that the couch-surfing business might be a smoke screen, as they wouldn't want their new home address to be public, given what nearly happened to him at the Capitol Building on 6th January.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 31/01/2021 17:27

*Pences'

ListeningQuietly · 31/01/2021 17:38

Jai
Pence had 4 years at
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_One_Observatory_Circle
before that 8 years at the Indiana Governor's residence
before that several years of living half the year in DC and half in Indiana

I can see that he is deciding where to live and finding it hard to rent the right property at the moment
and it will be much easier to check out areas by staying in the second homes of friends

I don't understand this. Why take the case in the first place? After 4 years of the orange one, they knew who he was before taking on the case. He's made no secret of what his defence will be and it's been clear for sometime that he can't be managed. My worry now will be that they can argue that it's not fair as he doesn't have appropriate legal counsel. Anyway, outcome is a done deal. They should make their case and get it over and done with ASAP.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/01/2021 18:10

I don't quite understand how "unspecified They stole the election" is a defence against a charge of encouraging people to storm the Capitol.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/01/2021 18:12

Especially since as far as I know there has been absolutely no evidence produced by anyone to show that the election was stolen, or rigged, or even slightly fraudulent, apart from on man being prosecuted for getting and using a ballot for his dead mother.

Has a whole lot of verifiable evidence been produced this year?

DGRossetti · 31/01/2021 19:04

I did say last year that I believed Trump would use any contact with a court to try and re-open the allegations.

It's almost like he thinks it's a civil case, and you can counterclaim when charged.

I'm sure he's smarter than that. But sometimes, you have to wonder.

However, I write this in the UK - a country which has never seen a successful revolution or rebellion since 1066. It's entirely possible a US court might consider stolen elections a valid justification for insurrection. I'm not Rudy Giuliani, so I don't know.

Soopermum1 · 31/01/2021 19:46

Anyone know how MJT's impeachment attempt is going?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/01/2021 20:07

It could be argued that the Civil War was successful in that the people rebelling against the King did win the war; and they did cut Charles Stuart's head off to make their point.

That we subsequently reverted to having (carefully controlled) monarchs with greatly reduced powers doesn't really negate the result of that war.
