"This term there are legitimate white supremacist sympathizers that sit at the heart and at the core of the Republican caucus in the House of Representatives ... Kevin McCarthy answers to these QAnon members of Congress" -- AOC

AOC talks of what is going on in the Republican Party. And Kevin McCarthy Republican Leader of the House has just been down at MarALago with Trump. Getting his orders I presume.

The fact that moderate Republicans are leaving the party is not all good.
It just means that the remainder who get to vote in closed primaries will be even more rabid

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/01/2021 11:57

A fair number of police officers at the Capitol were beaten up and hospitalised. How many of the rioters ended up in hospital, does anyone know? Three "medical events" seem to have caused deaths, and one was shot in the throat and killed, but others?

Roussette · 28/01/2021 12:28

I wish I could find the report I looked at yesterday. There were literally 100 police officers who needed treatment

Sabol dragged the one police officer down the steps where the mob beat him to death. He then went up and tried to drag another one down.

I wonder what Republicans will get a conscience when it comes to voting for/against impeachment

This has shades of the Brexit purge - Johnson removed all pro-European or moderate Tories from the party before the 2019 election. The resulting dearth of talent to choose from is partly why we are in this mess now, in the UK.

PerkingFaintly · 28/01/2021 12:39

Indeed, TheABC, and Johnson then ran on a single totemic issue and hid in a fridge, to avoid answering for his party on any other issues.

Expect to see the same from the Trumpist party. And it won't be as coded as "Build the Wall".

Good for these judges for holding the line:

It sounds to me like Trump adviser Roger Stone raised the money to pay for the tactical equipment of some of those who breached the Capitol as part of an armed insurrection.

But what do I know? I'm just a guy watching a publicly available video in which Stone does exactly that.

He's just going to get away with it, isn't he? Sad Just like he always does.

So depressing.

I mean, I'm glad (so so glad) he's no longer president. But I was looking forward to a more thorough downfall. Sad

For anyone who has had any dealings with an unhinged, narcissistic, destructive, seemingly unstoppable person, the prospect of the RARE sight of seeing one of them really, really get their comeuppance was one to relish. But it seems that's not going to happen. Though the time since the insurrection, we came close.

I followed these wonderfully informative and helpful threads right at the beginning, as I was obsessed fascinated and appalled in equal measure. But at some point in the past four years, I lost all heart as I couldn't still believe this had actually been allowed to happen and was still happening! So I stopped reading about it and only took it up again this year. It began to feel like he would never topple, but has. At least that. At least he is no longer in a position of actual power. But really. The number of people who do have some power and are NOT appalled by him and his ilk, is extremely concerning. And those behind the scenes shit-stirrers like Bannon will still be lurking, rubbing their hands with glee. They love disruption.

Thank you for these threads though Smile

He's just going to get away with it, isn't he?

I know he might still walk away, but criminal investigations are on going. I'm hoping that even if they don't touch him directly, they will damage his political prospects permanently.

ListeningQuietly · 28/01/2021 13:29

He's just going to get away with it, isn't he?
Yes and no.

Chances are the Senate will blink
but then Biden will be able to say that his legislation is being opposed by people who do not believe in electoral law

The Tax stuff will run and run

The FBI and DHS are now on the case of US born right wing extremists
the mood will change
Interesting read.

www.wired.com/story/gamestop-stock-wall-street-bets-short-squeeze/

Note: "monitoring" is basically meaningless, as in they're looking but doing nothing.

And a quick deflection to "it's a good reminder that the stock market isn't the only measure of the health of our economy and it does not reflect how the working and middle class families are doing".

twitter.com/i/status/1354496663868624902
They aren't just monitoring it they have now been actively shutting down trading platforms from allowing people to buy the stock. At least 5 different platforms have taken the stocks off so people cannot buy it.

I know because my trading platform has been affected since yesterday, constantly crashing.

They are now stopping people buying stock to protect the hedge funds who opened dup 140% shorf but boa doubled down to a 240% short. Unbelievable what they are doing, there is pure manipulation going on and does they stop the hedge funds doubling down on their shorts, heck no. Just stopping the average trader buying stock.

Omg, no I hadn't seen the reply.

The anger is bipartisan. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.), Rep Ro Khanna (D., Calif.), Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) and even Donald Trump Jr., eldest son of the former president, have all called out the situation as unfair for individual investors.
