US erasing Women - Janice Turner

It was totally shocking to me this week as a supporter of the Democrats to see Biden choosing his moment carefully on day one to wipe out women's and girl's rights in the states in one fail swoop. There was no discussion, no consultation. No warning. Just like that he removed centuries of our rights as women.

He will now go down in history as the first President that abolished womenhood and Motherhood and women's rights. I am astonished and horrified and reeling actually, even this morning. I have had a few days to process the shock, but no, I am still reeling.

It is now punishable to describe a woman as a mother for instance, or to stop a man/boy with a penis showering with your pre teen daughter at school.
Prisons can no longer keep women safe, they will now lock up male rapists (Identifying as women, which anyone can now do no questions asked) with trapped female prisoners in cells. Can you imagine being in that position? The horror of being trapped in that situation, as survivor this actually keeps me awake at night.

Men can use lavatories, locker rooms and showers with young girls. It is ILLEGAL to now stop them. It is also illegal to stop a man competing in women's sports, making women's and girls sports now obsolete. What girl is going to outrun a biological male?

We have literally, as a sex been erased completely from the legal framework and with it all of our protections thanks to Biden. Men can still be men, because that doesn't offend anyone apparently - they will not be called 'testicle havers' or 'ejaculators' it will only be women subjected to this. So that says a lot of modern equality and where we are with it today in the US.

Women have been reduced to 'Menstruators' and the highly offensive 'black birthing bodies' if you are describing a mother from the BAME community. That is what we must all be called now.

That is the new healing landscape Biden describes as he cuts out the rights of half the nation.

Janice Turner as always is an absolute legend, and her excellent article 'War of words risks wiping women from our Language' in the Times this morning is outstanding, and covers the grave situation we ALL now face. For anyone thinking it could never happen here, think again.

Read it for yourself:

Repeat after me

You do realise how unhinged you sound? Are you trying to brainwash us?

Helmetbymidnight · 23/01/2021 11:24

@TheQueenRaven
im joining the lab party. we've got three years to turn the ship around- we can do it.

repeat after me says the kid who doesn't even know what a woman is. Grin

Alltheprettyseahorses · 23/01/2021 11:24

Said by white americans before POC joined their schools
Said by straight white people about gay people being equal

Not all women are white. White skin isn't the default colour. This is about the rights of all women, the safety of all women in prison, the opportunity for all girls in school. Every single one of us. In the UK and America, we've only been able to vote for 100 years. In fact, women only got the vote in parts of Switzerland in 1990. 1990! And now it looks like it's the end of our run. 100 years of white men (make no mistake, this is a white male movement) letting us think we could be people. We could do things because they allowed us to, now back in our place as support units. So what are we going to do?

feelingquitehopeful · 23/01/2021 11:27

We need to stop falling foul to party politics, this is how it happened in the US.

It is about Labour or the Tories - this is far bigger than traditional party lines. In order for us to win in the long term we need to be far bigger than this.

The party that truly represents us gets our vote. End of.

We demand for this to happen, we make it a condition of our support. All the sniping won't help. This is why we are where we are. We accepted the Status Quo for too long and our limited and very poor choices.

If they want our vote, they need to fight tooth and nail for us. No more platitudes.

@chomalungma

Campaigners in the UK have been making this point for several years and yet it is only the Conservative party who still seem to know what a woman is. I have never voted for them but feel I might have to be pragmatic and do just that at the next election

Do they?

So why haven't they repealed the GRA, made sure that crimes etc are recorded as sex based, not gender based?

If they were serious about women, then this is what they would surely do?

Liz Truss is doing her damnedest to support us, but she is up against a very powerful lobby. The Women and Equalities Select Committee are out to undermine her at every opportunity, you only have to watch them hearing evidence from Profs Sullivan, Freedman, and Stock to see the attitudes of most of the committee members.

Now they have launched yet another enquiry, with a very short timescale, which yet again seeks to undermine what Liz has achieved at the GEO. They would love to have her replaced.

Women in the party are working really hard, especially at grassroots level, to get support for Liz Truss and to get MPs to speak out; we know many are supportive but are either not well educated on the issue or are still fearful. My MP told me that we must keep responding to these consultations, we must keep writing to ministers and MPs, it IS making a difference and politicians are slowly waking up. As you can imagine though, the response to Covid takes up a lot of bandwidth.

By the way, you don’t need to be a Conservative to sign up to the organisation mentioned upthread; they are very welcoming to all women (and men) of all parties and none, who want to take part in coordinated campaigns.

feelingquitehopeful · 23/01/2021 11:30

**Not about Labour and the Tories.

ketosavedmylife · 23/01/2021 11:35

@AStudyinPink

I'm going to (reluctantly) re-join the Labour party as they may be in power in 4 years and by then they need to know what a woman is.

But they don’t. Starmer is in hock to woke. I’m a lifelong Labour voter and will (reluctantly) probably be abstaining in the next election as I honestly believe the Tories have the common-sense position on identity politics.

Me too. As a lifelong labour supporter I cannot vote for woke agenda. It'll be an Independent of some sort next time, I guess. I have never not voted.

The lunatics are alive and well on MN. Supporting trans rights does not equal erasing women ffs. Grow up, stop your shitty National Enquirer worthy headlines, and have some compassion. Repeat after me- Supporting trans rights does not equal erasing women. Until you understand.

lol

Don't you have some schoolwork to catch up on?

feelingquitehopeful · 23/01/2021 11:38

Many, many of us are looking at this with new eyes. Perhaps it was even a good thing in the end that it happened - in the long run. No doubt the executive order will go to the supreme court, and this will become a very very big case, everyone will be under no illusion of what this actually means at the end. We will all know what is at stake. I am trying to imagine how Biden will justify it, because he will have to at some point. Will Harris remain on the fence? Lets hope not.

We make up a very powerful 50.6% of the vote here in the UK it is about time we stepped up and made our case together to every party - that from now on we expect half of the cabinet to represent us - and be women. We expect the party to consider our voices and our needs as WOMEN and not as vulva people, and they must commit to protecting us properly. We can easily do this, but we never felt before like we had to I guess.

Well I think thats changed!

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 23/01/2021 11:39

@JustAnotherPoster00

You seem like someone who knows the arguments against the woke agenda Jet so have a think if any apply, if they dont I stand corrected but ones that I see pop up here and other places do ring that uh oh bell for me
No, I want to know from you which Gender Critical arguments you think are akin to not allowing black children to go to school with white children?
Sn0tnose · 23/01/2021 11:39

Grow up, stop your shitty National Enquirer worthy headlines, and have some compassion. Yeah, we should all just shut up and ‘be kind’. Fuck that for a game of soldiers.

Repeat after me- Supporting trans rights does not equal erasing women. Until you understand. How about you try it? ‘Supporting sex based rights for women does not equal transphobia’. Keep saying it until you start to understand.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/01/2021 11:41

The main reason that I cant get on board with the GC feminists because all the arguments they use I have read in articles at times in history when someone wants to deny equal rights to another part of society,

Men (who want) must be allowed to compete in women's sports, rapists must be put in women prisons and refuges and changing rooms should be open to all, because otherwise you'll sound like bigots.

yeah that seems well thought out and reasonable. Hmm

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 23/01/2021 11:41

Repeat after me- Supporting trans rights does not equal erasing women. Until you understand.

Well that doesn't sound creepy and abusive at all Hmm

Bloody women not doing what they are told eh?

@Joeblack066 it has been explained many many times how gender rights impose on women's rights. In terms of their safety, their medical needs, their access to fair play in sex based circumstances like sports or women based roles. These are not ideas plucked out of thin air, they are actually happening, why are you choosing to ignore fact to support the belief system of a minority group?

And what do people mean when they say “trans rights”?

The rights of trans people to present as their idea of the opposite sex without fear of persecution?

I’m on board with that.

The rights of trans people to choose their own names and pronouns, and express their desire that others use them?

I’m on board with that.

The rights of trans people to not lose out on employment opportunities because of their trans status?

I’m on board with that.

But I am not on board with demands that I perceive trans people as they perceive themselves (that I start believing they are ‘born in the wrong body’ and are literally members of the other ‘gender’, whatever that means).

I am not on board with the idea that speaking my own truth (I don’t believe we can change sex) is abusive or prejudiced.

I am not on board with harassing people who express their own beliefs (as above) or trying to get them fired.

I am not on board with claiming opinion is fact (TWAW - no debate).

I am not on board with closing off avenues of academic enquiry into gender or sex.

I am not on board with women being forced to share their safe spaces with men.

So, when you really look at it, it’s not the clear-cut situation that Joe Black describes. At all. No amount of mindless repetition will change my mind on any of the above.

Because I’m not a piece of shit.
I have worked with 3 trans women, gave a close friend who is gender fluid, and a grandchild who is non binary.
I am not erased or threatened in any way.
DJT was great at ‘facts’. Just like the Daily Fail. You keep stressing about something that isn’t real hun, and I’ll keep valuing my colleagues, friends and family.
I know who’d I’d rather be.

Sn0tnose · 23/01/2021 12:03

I am not erased or threatened in any way. Good for you. Long may it continue. But women’s sex based rights are not yours to give away.

Helmetbymidnight · 23/01/2021 12:03

So you think men should compete in women's sports, rapists be put in women's prisons, and men can freely access women's changing rooms and refuges>
And everyone who says no is 'a piece of shit'?

Well, that's...that's a coherent argument.

Blubellsarebells · 23/01/2021 12:05

"Repeat after me- Supporting trans rights does not equal erasing women. Until you understand."
No thanks.
Can you really not see how sinister and brain washy that sounds?
Its not about your friends ffs.
There are more ppl on earth than you and your friends.
Giving men the right to be women does affect womens rights.

Sometimesonly · 23/01/2021 12:06

I've worked with transwomen too. I still think women should be allowed sex-based rights. So do they. Are we all pieces of shit too?

MaudTheInvincible · 23/01/2021 12:07

Women concerned for their rights are pieces of shit? You knew someone once who was alright so there's nothing to worry about when the US President signs away women's rights?

Well, I'm persuaded.
