My parents and sister refused to believe there was any dfference. So I took the challenge about 10 times to prove that there most definitely is!

From the size of the bubbles, the lack of soapy mouthfeel, to the taste. All different way back then. And Pepsi most certainly tasted best

Nowadays I can still tell the difference but dislike them all!

Though I think the failed Coke recipe change/s had a lot to do with the similarities now.

Coke is by far the best, Pepsi is rubbish. I tend to go for Coke Zero.

Does anyone remember the Pepsi Challenge?

I saw an interesting documentary about the 'New Coke' fiasco, which arose from the Pepsi Challenge. Coke introduced a sweeter formula (based on extensive blind taste tests) in 1985 and retired the original (in the US) - only for there to be an outcry. It wasn't long before the old formula was reintroduced as 'Coke Classic' and by the time a few years had passed 'New Coke' had quietly disappeared.

Further research showed that the success of Pepsi in the blind tests was due to this being a 'sip test'. If you take just a sip of a drink, most people will say they prefer the sweeter one, because that's how our taste buds are programmed, but if you test using a whole glass or can, the results can be completely different and people often prefer something sourer or more acidic.

Diet Pepsi used to be incredible, it satiated my sweet tooth but now it seems like a different recipe to about 13 years ago.
I used to be a strict diet coke only drinker until I was stuck with a Pepsi Max which is the winner of all soft drinks EVER.

(I am partial to the diet coke with lemon but I'm sure that's long gone now).

I had a Pepsi max for the first time in years and ended up not finishing it. I could really tell I was drinking weak syrup dissolved in fizzy acid. It went down the sink.

(tastebuds seem otherwise fine, so I hope Pepsi Max genuinely does taste like shit and it's not just the first sign of me having covid....)

If I order a Diet Coke and they ask is Pepsi okay I order something else. Pepsi is vile

McDonalds Coke Zero is inexplicably much more delicious than Coke Zero you buy in the shop. It's really nice.

If I had to choose a branded drink, I'd pick PepsiMax. It doesn't seem as sweet to me.

When it comes to cherry cola, though, I prefer the Aldi version as it's not too strong on the cherry flavour.

My late mum preferred Pepsi, too.
