To get a welfare check on my neighbors?

Catsandkittens638297 · 21/01/2021 07:13

My neighbors are usually up all night till 3am with their kids (they had two young children) screaming, running about, crying and it was every night, the children would scream and cry when they argue. Our walls are so thin I could hear them walking about.
When we first moved in they where arguing and I swear she was shouting for help.
They argue quite alot usually in their language.
I used to see them about on the street quite alot to.
A couple of days before Christmas they where arguing quite badly early hours of the morning (2/3am. Im up with my toddler every night so I always hear it)
But since then iv not heard anything, it's radio silent, literally not a peep since before Christmas. Their car is still parked outside, there's things still in their garden too so I don't think they've moved.only thing that's changed is their shed door is open (not been burgled).

Would you get in touch with 101 to get a welfare check? Just feels abit weird to me.

Police just called with an update. They're currently stuck in albania trying to get a flight back!
They tell strangers on the phone? Isn't that against GDPR or something? You could be the local neighbourhood burglar casing the joint. Shock
Pimlicojo · 21/01/2021 11:25

How would the police have tracked them down so quickly? Did you give them a name and telephone number?

WestendVBroadway · 21/01/2021 11:26

A pleasing update. Good job done OP.

warriorwomanx · 21/01/2021 11:27

And after all that we have finally discovered they are Albanian Grin

WorraLiberty · 21/01/2021 11:27

The very first thing the police in my area would do is ask if you've knocked on the door.

If you hadn't, they wouldn't waste their time coming out (and rightly so).

Imagine if they got there, knocked on the door and the tenants answered Confused it'd be a complete waste of their time.

SatsumasOrClementines · 21/01/2021 11:28

Possibly the police explained a neighbour was concerned and asked if it would be ok to pass the info on?

MrsExpo · 21/01/2021 11:29

Keep us posted OP. Sounds worrying.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 21/01/2021 11:30

@warriorwomanx exactly the point I was making earlier!

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2021 11:31

It's reassuring to know that if any of my neighbours go missing I can just call 101 and within the hour they'll call me back with their whereabouts. I had no idea.

Unless it differs between areas?

It can’t do any harm, I’d rather call and be wrong than not call and later find out something was wrong. Let us know, hopefully all is well.

It's all done and dusted.
Anxietyandwine · 21/01/2021 11:43

Oh I’ve just realised. Good news Smile

Ch3rish · 21/01/2021 11:43

firstly the police wouldn't ring you to tell you where a family are or their circumstances due to GDPR, they would simply say they have confirmation that they are safe...

I think you mean that they shouldn't tell you. I know for a fact that in a similarish sort of situation that the police gave out information to a family member that they shouldn't have done. I'm pretty they did it without thinking but it had the potential to cause problems within the family

You are if I may so a little naive to think that there's 100% compliance with GDPR in all situations, no one's perfect and human error can always happen

LonginesPrime · 21/01/2021 11:45

If this is true, that's really bad that the police gave you that information about their whereabouts - you could be an abusive ex, stalker, employer, burglar or anyone.

only thing that's changed is their shed door is open (not been burgled)

Well, it sounds like they have been burgled then - who deliberately leaves their shed open when they go on holiday?

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2021 11:45

I would hope the Police know who they should and shouldn't be giving personal information to in all situations TBH.
Its sort of their job.

shouldistop · 21/01/2021 11:47

You'd be surprised. My husbands friend never locks his front door - even when he's abroad.

WorraLiberty · 21/01/2021 11:47

OP (if you're still reading the thread) did you actually tell the police you didn't bother knocking on the door?

ParkheadParadise · 21/01/2021 11:50

I think it definitely differs between areas

Yes, between arse and elbow.
AlternativePerspective · 21/01/2021 11:56

Amazing that the police have so much time to keep someone up to date with what they’re doing and to track them down In a foreign country.

And how would the school be able to help? Kids aren’t even in school.

Which may suggest that they are Albanian, not Polish Confused
Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2021 11:57

I would pay a little bit more in council tax for this kind of excellent police service TBF.

QueenOwl · 21/01/2021 12:00

Presumably the neighbours had informed the school that they were stuck in Albania therefore it only took one call to the school for the police to get that info. Hardly a massive investigative police project Grin
