To get a welfare check on my neighbors?

Catsandkittens638297 · 21/01/2021 07:13

My neighbors are usually up all night till 3am with their kids (they had two young children) screaming, running about, crying and it was every night, the children would scream and cry when they argue. Our walls are so thin I could hear them walking about.
When we first moved in they where arguing and I swear she was shouting for help.
They argue quite alot usually in their language.
I used to see them about on the street quite alot to.
A couple of days before Christmas they where arguing quite badly early hours of the morning (2/3am. Im up with my toddler every night so I always hear it)
But since then iv not heard anything, it's radio silent, literally not a peep since before Christmas. Their car is still parked outside, there's things still in their garden too so I don't think they've moved.only thing that's changed is their shed door is open (not been burgled).

Would you get in touch with 101 to get a welfare check? Just feels abit weird to me.

Yes knock on their door. It sounds like you would normally hear quieter noises too, children playing?

ReefTeeth · 21/01/2021 07:40

I think a welfare check is a good idea based on what you've said.

musicalfrog · 21/01/2021 07:40

Perhaps OP thought they would be home by now if they'd gone away for Christmas?

LST · 21/01/2021 07:43

Hopefully shes left him and taken her kids out of what sounds like an awful situation

borageforager · 21/01/2021 07:44

I don’t get why you wouldn’t try knocking on the door before phoning the police though. Just say ‘had you noticed your shed door is open?’ Or ‘have you had a parcel for me?’

Ilovenutellaaaaa · 21/01/2021 07:44

Do you see any signs of life from the house at all?...any blinds/curtains opening and closing on upstairs or downstairs windows....any lights coming on ....

I agree with others to knock on door and pretend that a parcel has been left with a neighbour but you don't know which neighbour so you are going door to door...

If you knock on door and nobody answers then can you look through the letterbox and see if their letters/junk mail is building up ..

But from what you have said about the noise and her calling for help, I would also mention it to 101,...better safe than sorry

TinySongstress · 21/01/2021 07:46

Are they Polish? I have quite a few Polish friends and work colleagues who return home for an extended break over Christmas. Just a thought.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/01/2021 07:47

I would have called a while ago. This environment sounds very unhealthy. Hopefully all will be well and you can explain the shouting and worrying behaviour and get them some intervention when / if the family returns.

Catsandkittens638297 · 21/01/2021 07:48

Their blinds have been shut for the whole time, even when they where there. We've knocked before to give them a parcel (before they went quiet) and knocked for about 2 days and they never answered and just gave their parcels to another neighbour. So I don't think anyone would answer if I knocked

@TinySongstress yes they're polish

Why didn't you call the police when you thought she was shouting for help!?

Pimlicojo · 21/01/2021 07:51

I'd go and knock on the door to tell them the shed door's open. It sounds like they've gone away.

MadamFlutterby · 21/01/2021 07:51

Definitely worth a wefare check

Mammaaof · 21/01/2021 07:54

Well done for ringing OP x

AlternativePerspective · 21/01/2021 07:56

I would stay out of it. Given you weren’t bothered enough to call the police when you say you thought she’d shouted for help, it seems fairly obvious that you’re only calling now out of nosiness/curiosity.

And realisticallly what do you think has happened? That he’s murdered them all and then killed himself?

The police will knock on the door but nothing more.Of course they won’t break down the door because the neighbours say they haven’t heard them for a while.

My neighbours are almost identical. They shout, scream, make noise, play their piano at all hours, shout and row at 3 AM and ironically, I haven’t heard them for a while either.

But they’re Chinese and I suspect they’ve gone home for Christmas, and have probably had to quarantine when they got there meaning they’ve had to stay longer.

Someone in my town did this. So I would say that yes, it's a possibility.

I wonder what relevance their nationality could be.

No need for updates OP

randomer · 21/01/2021 08:00

Knock on the door and from a safe distance ask if they are OK?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 21/01/2021 08:00

Well done for ringing OP x

Not so well done on ignoring a woman and children potentially in danger. Better late than never though.

randomer · 21/01/2021 08:02

Do you remember the people who walked past an upset toddler and 2 much older boys in Liverpool?
I always poke my nose in and intervene ( if it is safe to do so)

hotpotlover · 21/01/2021 08:03

There was a travel ban on flights from the UK to most European countries before Christmas. How were they supposed to leave just before Christmas?

movingonup20 · 21/01/2021 08:10

If their car (1) is there, the likelihood is one partner left with the kids alternatively they all went to visit family eg overseas for Christmas and didn't return due to lockdown or only one has

movingonup20 · 21/01/2021 08:12

@hotpotlover

I know plenty that went, from tier 2 it was allowed

ClangingChimesofDoom · 21/01/2021 08:20

Yes and update us as this is worrying

Good grief!

Thatwentbadly · 21/01/2021 08:28

You heard a women shout for help and didn’t ring 999 - you should have acted then. I do hope they are OK.
