To get a welfare check on my neighbors?

Catsandkittens638297 · 21/01/2021 07:13

My neighbors are usually up all night till 3am with their kids (they had two young children) screaming, running about, crying and it was every night, the children would scream and cry when they argue. Our walls are so thin I could hear them walking about.
When we first moved in they where arguing and I swear she was shouting for help.
They argue quite alot usually in their language.
I used to see them about on the street quite alot to.
A couple of days before Christmas they where arguing quite badly early hours of the morning (2/3am. Im up with my toddler every night so I always hear it)
But since then iv not heard anything, it's radio silent, literally not a peep since before Christmas. Their car is still parked outside, there's things still in their garden too so I don't think they've moved.only thing that's changed is their shed door is open (not been burgled).

Would you get in touch with 101 to get a welfare check? Just feels abit weird to me.

No, OP thought hat what she heard in a shouted foreign language might have been help!

The relevance of them being Polish is that they could have gone home for Christmas and been stranded there - not every mention of someone's nationality is bigotry!

OP Good luck with getting a welfare check.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 21/01/2021 08:38

Unless you speak Polish, you don't know that they're Polish, they could be any foreign nationality, not that it's relevant. I can't believe you are only concerned now, three weeks later 🙄

My Polish friends went home for Christmas but came back on 30/12 as they wanted to get back before Brexit rule changes.

thegreylady · 21/01/2021 08:42

It is possible your neighbours are delayed.

dray9925 · 21/01/2021 08:43

Absolutely call, I had a family live opposite me 4 young children one with severe additional needs. One day we just realised we hadn't seen them in ages, the mum was always around doing school runs and taking the youngest for a walk ect
Then it got to over a month and we realised they weren't on holiday or anything so called 101 they weren't interested so we called the housing association who gained access and they had left almost everything in the house and cars outside they were just gone. We had people who claimed to be their friends knocking and asking if we had seen them.
I often wonder about the children and hope they are ok.

billybagpuss · 21/01/2021 09:04

How did you get on with 101, hope your neighbours are ok.

Catsandkittens638297 · 21/01/2021 09:18

@hotpotlover

There was a travel ban on flights from the UK to most European countries before Christmas. How were they supposed to leave just before Christmas?
People did manage it, I have a friend who went to France on 30th Dec and is now renting a flat there as he decided at very short notice that he wasn't going to lose his rights due to Brexit. I was very surprised as I thought the border was closed, but if he managed it I presume others did too.

What a load of rubbish. I don't speak French, Arabic, Russian, Italian, Spanish or Urdu but I know when I'm listening to it. Hmm

FuriousWithTheNHS · 21/01/2021 09:33

Also Japanese and Thai.

Couldn't tell the difference between Mandarin or Cantonese though.

FuriousWithTheNHS · 21/01/2021 09:35

Dutch, German, Swedish, Afrikaans...I could be here all day with this.

Such a daft comment.

Kottbullar · 21/01/2021 09:53

Yes and update us as this is worrying

What a ghoulish request.

Sn0tnose · 21/01/2021 10:01

I don’t understand why you didn’t call the police if you heard what you believed was a woman shouting for help? I hope you told 101 you heard this.

thesecretvoter · 21/01/2021 10:02

Are the exclamation marks to add extra excitement OP?

Catsandkittens638297 · 21/01/2021 10:04

Police have just been, they've knocked on their door no one's answered, they're currently going to the school to ask if any ones called In. They said they'd do more digging and if they don't find anything they'll put their door through and search.

TressiliansStone · 21/01/2021 10:07

I'm very glad you've called the police.

We're dealing with the aftermath of a murder in my neighbourhood at the moment and everyone keeps saying, "Why did no one report him missing?"

Council eventually thought he'd moved away without notifying them, and they stripped the house and moved a new family in.

Now the poor bloke's body has been found (not near the house) and while it's too late to help him, of course we'd all like to see the perpetrator caught.

ElizaLaLa · 21/01/2021 10:11

There could have been clues in the house.

CleverCatty · 21/01/2021 10:17

I'd definitely get a welfare check on my neighbours.

A few years ago where my DBro and his then GF lived in a flat, they and their friends were very shocked when they found out that an acquaintance of theirs had chained his live in girlfriend to the kitchen for some months until she was found/managed to escape.

This was at a time when domestic violence was quite common place. But they were very shocked at the boyfriend chaining someone up in a flat and keeping them prisoner and believed the man when he told them she'd 'move back to her parents' home town' when his friends asked him about his girlfriend, and they hadn't seen her around. I don't think anyone spoke to neighbours to get second hand accounts.

That's awful, poor man.

In our area we had someone go missing approx 4 years ago but he's been reported as missing.

I think anyone who suddenly notices that someone of any age or sex is missing and has not moved away should raise their suspicions.

LMNOPEE · 21/01/2021 10:20

How worrying :(

Well done on calling the police and sticking to this.

I think if you as neighbours have heard noises and arguing then it's your duty a a degree to 'keep an ear/eye out'. Especially in this case if the DH/DW is foreign (Polish) and may not know of access/help to support for domestic violence etc.
