"For there is always light
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it."

— Amanda Gorman, 20 Jan 2021, inauguration of President Joe R Biden

@CrochetOrBust
I think they do, as Dongding probably knows, but they probably felt a greater sense of duty this year because of Trump’s dereliction of his duty.

Dongdingdong · 20/01/2021 23:49

I’m sure the posters on this thread who feel sorry for Saddam Hussein

Oh believe me, there was at least one - they felt sorry for Osama bin Laden too. It was a couple of threads back.

He’s made some very strange comments about ivanka like ‘she’s a nice piece of ass’ and how he’d do her if she wasn’t his daughter.

He didn’t actually say either of these comments. And if he was that awful a father, why would she stick around?

CrochetOrBust · 20/01/2021 23:49

@maggiethecat You’re probably right about that!

Dongdingdong · 20/01/2021 23:52

@Shrillharridan why are you attempting to shut down my posts? Is no one allowed to have a different viewpoint from you or something? Confused

DuncinToffee · 20/01/2021 23:55

Someone on one of the threads said , yep I can now see the relevance of you posting that

Anyway to our US posters, enjoy the rest of inauguration day!

DrBlackbird · 20/01/2021 23:56

Late but very relieved PMK after watching President Biden sworn in. Did I hear correctly that he's already rejoined the Paris Accord?

Mittens030869 · 20/01/2021 23:59

It was good that Bush was there, whatever we think about his time in office. (I didn't like him then, as I said before.) It was important for senior Republicans to acknowledge Biden's victory. So with both Bush and, obviously, Pence there, that was a strong statement that it's time to move on from Trump and his lies.

@Dongdingdong

I would also have much preferred Al Gore to have been President rather than Bush. Apart from everything else, he's always been very passionate about environmental issues.

PerveenMistry · 21/01/2021 00:00

@Covidcovid

Do you think they get new mattresses in the White House? You wouldn’t want to sleep on the sweat stained, fake tan stained ones left behind!
Pretty sure they get new mattresses & anything else they want.

@DuncinToffee eh? It was a poster on this set of threads, but a few threads back. Why did you type WTF in the first place? Confused

maggiethecat · 21/01/2021 00:03

@DrBlackbird
That’s the plan, not sure if that was signed earlier but their focused resolve today was impressive.

We cannot overstate how Biden’s extensive experience in the senate and government will help them deal with the multiple fires burning.

Apart from rolling their sleeves up it’s also good to know there will be few, if any, WH power struggles to deal with.

He agreed with Howard Stern that he (Howard) could call his daughter 'a nice piece of ass'. Regardless, if Howard or he said it, imagine any father okaying a radio host referring to his own daughter like that? So, it is still basically the same thing.

He did did say "If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her" , which is just as bad really.

Messed up people stick around family, they don't have the same reality filters that we do. Especially if it meant there was monetary gain for her.

Erm “If I weren’t her father” and “if Ivanka weren’t my daughter maybe I’d be dating her”. As to why she sticks around, probably multiple fucked up reasons.

There are lots of people on these threads who’ve taken the time, over numerous threads, to explain US politics. Obviously, the focus has been on Trump. He WAS president for the last four years.

If you are vote Republican, I can well imagine you’re feeling antagonistic right now. If that’s the party you believe in, then carry on supporting them, make your views known to them, work locally to try to implement their values, do what you can to keep pushing for them to work for the benefit of your community etc.

However, if you only support Trump then, and have no interest in the actual party, then you’re fighting a losing battle on these threads. It means that you are absolutely fine with supporting a narcissist, misogynist, and blatant lies.

The above is being generous. The time for starting to gather nuts was a while ago - spring is on the way so you might be left feeling a bit hungry.

Dongdingdong · 21/01/2021 00:07

@Cacacoisfarraige awful. But like I said, he didn’t say those things about Ivanka.

maggiethecat · 21/01/2021 00:08

Yep, I see that Paris Accord was his 3rd EO signed.

CrochetOrBust · 21/01/2021 00:11

It seemed like Trump took a few boxes of paperwork with him when he left the White House. Do we know if he did any more EOs on the plane down to Florida? I wouldn’t put it past him to sneak in one or two last minute ones.

Furries · 21/01/2021 00:12

Anyone watching the press briefing? Jen is coming across as natural - and mostly confident. First briefing must be nerve-wracking!

BelfastBloke · 21/01/2021 00:12

When is this Tom-Hanks-hosted inauguration party on tv? And what channel?

Willowkins · 21/01/2021 00:13

Just watching the first press briefing and wanted to say I like how she called it the Biden-Harris administration. I don't remember the previous administration being called the Trump-Pence administration. And that's another thing. She keeps saying previous administration. Trump is now He who must not be named.

Dongdingdong · 21/01/2021 00:15

@Furries yes, so like I say (for the third time Hmm) - he didn’t actually say either of those things. I’m neither a Trump supporter nor a Republican, I just like a balanced and fair debate - not everything is either black or white FFS. It’s something the vast majority of posters on this thread seem incapable of - they can only resort to personal insults and squirrel emojis Hmm

Mykittensaremyfriends · 21/01/2021 00:21

It was reported on the news that they were deep cleaning the White House as Trump had been so lax about Covid whereas the Biden's have been taking it seriously and being careful.

And Trump's14 year old son was the only member of his family not attending the ceremony so now lots of gags dong the rounds about him being left Home Alone in the White House Grin

gwenneh · 21/01/2021 00:23
@Cacacoisfarraige awful. But like I said, he didn’t say those things about Ivanka.
Yes. he did.

He said the quote about dating Ivanka on The View in 2006.
He made the remarks about her being a "piece of ass" on the Howard Stern show in 2004.

Both of these quotes are available and widely reposted.
