"For there is always light
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it."

— Amanda Gorman, 20 Jan 2021, inauguration of President Joe R Biden

Looping back to the last post on the old thread, I think PP has a good point about Pence. It will be interesting to see, as books are written, to what extent he was involved and whether he suppressed the worst? Even if he was just sitting there with an air of "touch the nuclear codes and I'll 25th your arse right outta here"

redcandlelight · 20/01/2021 19:51

I've read that the tiger king didn't get a pardon.

I hope i live long enough to find out but at 42 i have my doubts.

For an American history and politics nerd thats like the JFK files were to me in my 20s now. (And they turned out to be pretty disappointing tbh).

Happy days pmk🥂🍻🍸
The post from Red about Pence is spot on, so well described.
Just happy we’re here now
Seems like a breath of fresh air

PerkingFaintly · 20/01/2021 20:02

Yeah, whatever role Pence actually played, I'm expecting heavy revisionism from him.

As the one person Trump couldn't fire, he really didn't have to brown-nose to maintain his position.

Those loving stares and mirroring of the Tango Turd's movements are not the acts of a man in conflict of any kind with his icon – and curbing or resisting the Tango's actions in any way would inevitably lead to conflict over 4 years.

I meant Trump was the trash 😂😂[/quote]
lol! Shoulda known. But just wanted to make it absolutely clear. Besides, i just LOVE reminding myself that he's no longer relevant POTUS.

DH and I have had enough champers that we keeps sayin to each other:

"Guess What?"
"What?"
"Biden's POTUS!!!"

lol

MaggieFS · 20/01/2021 20:04

Are there any sites which will give info like so many of you have posted like the officer escorting VP Harris, Sanders' mitts and so on? I'm particularly interested in who all the attendees were.

RedToothBrush · 20/01/2021 20:04

"Guess What?"
"What?"
"Biden's POTUS!!!"

Im not sure alcohol is a prerequisite to getting to this stage!!!

Roussette · 20/01/2021 20:11

MaggieFS for me I get info and stuff like that from all over the place because I'm glued to it far too much
People hate Twitter but it doesn't half give you the news and info quickly, far far quicker than you'd pick up from media sites direct or watching the news, so I do get to know a lot from there but I do follow a lot of reliable sources on there.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 20/01/2021 20:13

They keep saying "The President" and they don't mean Trump.

It's the little things...

stickygotstuck · 20/01/2021 20:15

PMK.
You lot can talk!! Grin

scrappydappydoo · 20/01/2021 20:15

Has the ex-president (Grin) been arrested yet?

CaveMum · 20/01/2021 20:20

Honestly, I go to put the kids to bed and come back to another thread filled!

Well done chaps, we got there in the end. I know I went AWOL for a time in the middle (blaming the CaveBaby for that!) but I always loved reading and keeping up with these threads, if only to see if my West Wing gleaned knowledge was actually right!

DuncinToffee · 20/01/2021 20:26

Thanks for the new thread

Twitter is GREAT if you use it for a newsfeed and balance your sources and know who is reliable and generally useful.

(There are some great political journalists for the mail and the sun or with political leanings i dislike who do good work)

I don't use twitter for chatting or posting drivel or just following celebs generally.

It is kind of like the modern day equivalent of the massive news agencies who had thousands more reporters back in the day and filed stuff back to HQ - but you are the one who picks the stories which interest you most rather than the editor doing it for you.

It removes the gatekeepers.

This is also why its bad and can be used for disinformation and to feed the ideology of people who only look for confirmation bias.

itsgettingweird · 20/01/2021 20:34

Totally agree Amanda Gorman has a future and maybe as president. For one so tender in age her words had me on the edge of my seat and gripped. So inspiring, so confident and not afraid to tell the truth - but in a calm informative manner.

gwenneh · 20/01/2021 20:35

In theory, if you know how to vet a source, Twitter is brilliant as a jumping-off point.

In recent years I'm finding that many of my friends, including the educated ones, don't have the first clue about how to vet a source...

pointythings · 20/01/2021 20:37

I'm so relieved it isn't even funny. DD1 is very happy with her shiny new Birthday president.

whereismormonjesus · 20/01/2021 20:37

I bet Melania is off by the end of the year. If I was her I’d be swiftly pissing off back to Slovenia with Barron.

lifeturnsonadime · 20/01/2021 20:38

I think that Twitter is quite useful so long as you don't use it as an echo chamber, but unfortunately many people do.

Anyone watching CNN at the moment? I think it's a shame they haven't invited pictures/ videos of private celebrations to counteract the lack of crowds.
