"For there is always light
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it."

— Amanda Gorman, 20 Jan 2021, inauguration of President Joe R Biden

Moving on from the Trump threads, last one here:

Last year there was a lonely pic of 14 yr old Barron Trump playing soccer on his own in the White House garden.

He was dressed in an Arsenal kit.

Doesn't the poor boy have enough to put up with?

borntobequiet · 20/01/2021 21:28

@lionheart

Some lovely threads on display today .
I’m shallow too. I love those tailored/fitted winter coats that stylish Americans do so well and the way they accessorise them with lovely scarves, hats and gloves. Anyway, just placemarking really.
DuncinToffee · 20/01/2021 21:29

Your old kit Belfast?

borntobequiet · 20/01/2021 21:34

@Zug2

I must say, I thought Biden looked frail and old when he was walking down the stairs with Jill, to be introduced prior to taking the oath. I was on edge, he was breathing so heavily, I was so worried he was going to stumble.

He seemed much more energised when he was walking with his family into the White house.

Ha ha. I thought how well he did. My knee is playing up and I’d have had to go down one at a time! And I’m ten years younger than him.

I just tried to follow the link at whitehouse.gov that would normally have lead to the page for 'Donald Trump 45th President'.....got a '404 page not found' error.

His irrelevancy has just begun.

BelfastBloke · 20/01/2021 21:38

Yeah, I'm a Gooner.

Poor kid. (My son, as well as Trump's son)

DuncinToffee · 20/01/2021 21:39

I recognise you from the rolling football threads Smile

Spanglybangles · 20/01/2021 21:40

Agreed @lionheart Michelle Obama in particular looked fabulous.

AfterSchoolWorry · 20/01/2021 21:40

New thread yay!

Did anyone notice they didn't seem to have a lunch break in the schedule today?

8am to Mass then ceremonial stuff all day with no apparent food break?

I would die! And Kamala strode around all day on her stilettos, 8 hours, most of it in the cold! ❄❄

Kudos to them, I'd be as cranky as a cranky thing!

derxa · 20/01/2021 21:41

My son's a Gooner. It's been a misery fest this season. Never mind they're in the top half of the table now. When we watch the matches, I have to sit in silence.

Roussette · 20/01/2021 21:50

AfterSchool I thought that too! I wondered if they had a pack of sandwiches in the Beast to keep them going!

Ossoff and Warnock getting sworn in. Wonderful!

whereismormonjesus · 20/01/2021 21:55

@Zug2

It may well have been nerves tbh.

prettybird · 20/01/2021 21:56

I'm really enjoying the virtual Presidential Inauguration across the states. The Dance Across America that was just aired was brilliant.

Pompeo must be hating it: all that supposedly un-American multicultural- ism on show Wink

NotaRealLawyer · 20/01/2021 21:56

I wonder if Biden has read The Letter yet? Or perhaps, he's put it behind the clock on the mantelpiece, along with the 'lecky and gas bills, until he gets a chance to sort them.

whereismormonjesus · 20/01/2021 21:58

I expect Trump spat on the letter, or farted on it before putting it in the envelope. Sounds about his level of class.

Furries · 20/01/2021 21:59

What a day! Although it was “different” due to circumstances, it was fantastic. Kamala’s smile pretty much summed up the whole day. I loved the frequent shots of the flags - something about that just really moved me. President Biden’s speech. Amanda Gorman just amazing. Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez we’re both great. And Podium Cleaning Man kind of stole the show.

As others have said, thanks to the regular posters for all their insight on all the threads. I’m still split on how to move forward. Part of me doesn’t want “the old one” to taint discussion on the situation moving forward, but also get that maintaining 2 threads could be a challenge. On balance, though, I think separate threads would keep it cleaner.

To all in the US - congratulations, I hope the champagne continues to flow through the evening 🍾🥂🍾

Dongdingdong · 20/01/2021 22:00

(You really are very recognisable, BTW.)

Why, who do you think I am @PerkingFaintly? Come on, do tell. Your posts get more bizarre by the minute! Grin

Very amused that @DGRossetti, @NotaRealLawyer also proved my point earlier - thanks for the lolz.

@Roussette is the only sensible regular poster on this thread and therefore the only one worth engaging with!

@whereismormonjesus and this comment tells me all I need to know about yours!

whereismormonjesus · 20/01/2021 22:02

@Dongdingdong

👏

Dongdingdong · 20/01/2021 22:04

Anyway, on a related note, I do hate Astroturf. Nasty, fake, synthetic stuff!
