If only we're brave enough to be it."

@Coquohvan He'd be very happy about that one, I bet!

JanuaryChill · 23/01/2021 15:17

@Roussette as a newcomer to these threads, that's fascinating, and brilliant! I'd love to know more, PM me if it's more appropriate please.

I'm always trying to explain to people how MN has been the best source of info on Covid for similar reasons.

Of course when people say "Mumsnet?!" or "Facebook?!" or, indeed, "Twitter?!", they're imagining a random delve, with no filtering or ability to critically analyse posters and their sources.

All the Bernie photos just make me smile. Another good thing to come out of all this turmoil.

Roussette · 23/01/2021 16:01

Totally agree. He selflessly gave up his idea of being President and endorsed Joe to ensure that a Democrat got in and unseated DOOFUS

cyclingmad · 23/01/2021 16:14

Oh dear Biden doesn't think he has to follow the rules he sets. Not even more than 1 day after ordering masks to be worn on federal property he is seen maskless on federal property and there is not a single response.

And he wonders why people won't follow the rules, practice what you preach Biden.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/01/2021 16:19

I'd love a copy please @Roussette. I'm willing to bet MNHQ would too, if they don't already know.

longwayoff · 23/01/2021 16:26

Excellent news about Alex Jones and fellow loons, may they all be bankrupted along with Donnie. I'm watching the four Trump documentaries on bbc iplayer. Can look at him now its not compulsory. Its not improving my mood one iota. Unbelievable what he and his colluders have got away with.

cyclingmad · 23/01/2021 16:28

@pointythings

RTB's point is that a lot of Twitter newsfeeds contain actual links back to original source material.

For someone who doesn't use Twitter you have a lot of opinions on it.

And on your point that 'everything that goes badly from now on is Joe Biden's fault' - well, that's just childish. It takes more than 2 days to undo the harm done in 4 years and if you don't understand that, you really need to read up on how political systems work.

Can RTb not respond to me themselves without everyone getting involved...oh wait RTB got involved on a comment I made to another poster asking them another question.

I wasn't the one who said you cant use twitter I was asking a poster who was being snobby about sources of information.

But yeah OK you all pile on me instead.

And no im not childish, Biden has undone alot of Trumps stuff with his executive orders isn't that what you were all so excited about.

So yeah going forward what he does is on him....like mandating everyone on federal grounds wears masks.....then he goes maskless...is that Trumps fault?

"Conservative voices were quick to point out the hypocrisy"
LOL

It turns out... it was for brief moments for a video and photos.
Like the WH spokesperson and others speaking to the press. (They still should, btw, IMO)

"President Joe Biden succeeds Donald Trump, who was rarely spotted wearing a mask during his presidency."

Let's hope he never wears a brown suit or plays golf.

Roussette · 23/01/2021 16:38

Good, then you should agree thay in future posts people shouldn't use twitter as a source of news then in any posts going forward

That is what you said.
That is what we'll not be taking any notice of.

ListeningQuietly · 23/01/2021 17:04

Sources of information
and cross referencing are
ESSENTIAL
to find the actual verifiable facts of any story

it can be done using Twitter
it can be done using Google
it can be done using Wikipedia

but the key point is that it HAS to be done
by each of us
every day

Roussette · 23/01/2021 17:10

Totally agree.

In the 5 years these threads have been going, I have made a couple of posts that were incorrect or just not totally factual. Others have pointed it out to me in a kind and polite way, I have rescinded what I posted immediately.

And I would point out anything that is not right to anyone else, it can be done in a respectful way.

Lweji · 23/01/2021 17:15

Something the Washingtom Post should do more often as well.

pointythings · 23/01/2021 17:16

cycling I clarified RTB's point because like all threads, this is a conversation with multiple participants. I don't see why that bothers you.

And it is unreasonable no matter what you say to expect all the harm of the past 4 years to be undone in days. The orders Biden signed mean the process of undoing that harm can begin, but it will take time. Trump's administration has been shown to have completely failed to bring in the kind of government infrastructure needed to deal with COVID - creating that infrastructure isn't going to be done overnight.

Lastly, here you go again. Biden has his mask off for a few minutes = just as bad as Trump and his mates running around maskless and organising superspreader events. Sure.

DGRossetti · 23/01/2021 17:18

Plus reading what you are reading.

It's a classic trick of agenda-driven media to scream a headline (remember Betteridges law) which suggests or implies one thing, whereupon actual reading of the story reveals it's the exact opposite. But everyone quotes the headline.

IS CORBYN A GAY SOVIET PLANT WHO HARBOURED IRA TERRORISTS ?

is an example. It's no on every count of the indictment headline. But what will people remember on the day Corbyn passes away ?

Wasn't he that bloke what helped gay IRA terrorist with Russian gardens ?

Apologies if this is drifting into an egg-grandmother intersection, but it's quite common to find oneself rebutting "stories" that really do it themselves.

RedToothBrush · 23/01/2021 17:23
