"For there is always light
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it."

— Amanda Gorman, 20 Jan 2021, inauguration of President Joe R Biden

@PerkingFaintly

Like I said, minou123, there seems to be a veritable outbreak of people who suddenly care about facts.Grin

Matched only by the number of people who repeatedly trotted out, "Obviously I don't support Trump but..." who are now unaccountably grouchy at him being deposed.Grin

But they never supported him, right? Not at all. Not bothered either way. Oh nononono noes.Grin

Grin

But but but you don't have any morals. Facts are nice, obviously, but what really matters is proving you have morals.
Honestly PerkingFaintly, don't you know anything?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 23/01/2021 08:12

Sorry just saw that Red had already linked to the NYT story about DT wanting to replace the AG to overturn election.

longwayoff · 23/01/2021 08:20

The interview with Dr Fauci reminded me of the people I've met who have finally LTBd their way out of an abusive relationship. It was both encouraging, in that this highly experienced professional expert in his field has at last been freed to work and speak freely yet profoundly depressing in illustrating how lies and bullying have been encouraged to flourish and undermine knowledge and proofs for so many years. These are the practices of dictatorship no matter which R or L label is attached to them and none of us should have any truck with them. Let's not have this again, please. Call them out and oppose them everytime they open their lying m. This time, we've been lucky as Trump is an overwheening fool who thinks its all about him. Next time, with a bit more luck on their side, we will all be as silenced as Dr Fauci.

Roussette · 23/01/2021 08:41

Reading your posts NorthWest and Red I think... in time.. more details will come out how very very close it was from democracy being overturned and the overthrow being successful, all driven by 45.
If it wasn't for a few individuals standing up for what is right, we would be in a very different position today.

So whoever comes on these threads fact checking us... fine, crack on... we'll choose whether or not we respond to you, but just remember you supported someone who wanted to wield power without winning it legitimately, someone who vowed to stay in office whatever the result of the election, a would be dictator.

So excuse me, if I don't pay too much attention to you.

longwayoff so agree, yes.

@lionheart

Sad
That is awful @lionheart but strengthens the case that the insurgents had inside help. Lauren Boebert twitted Nancy Pelosi's location after she'd been removed from the house. Now the FBI has to investigate her involvement and that of other republicans thoroughly. The Republicans too have to get their own house in order and decide whether they want to become the US Nazi party #2.

Disagreeing with your colleagues is one thing & expected in the workplace particularly in politics. However, revealing their location so that they can be executed & a democratic process stopped is crossing the line. The Republicans have to really consider whether they want to be associated with this. Trump has dragged them through the mud during his term but if they wanted to they could redeem themselves if they vote to impeach Trump. My guess is they won't because they're too arrogant to admit they've got it so wrong, so very, very wrong. History won't look at the Republicans too kindly in a 100 years time that's if Covid hasn't killed us off

I couldn't link lion hearts post from the last page.

Late to the party on the Bernie memes but this struck a chord.

Same here. Every damned time I move, the cat claims my chair.

Our boys too. They have an ability to take up all the room on a 3 seater sofa so that's there no room for us Confused

Beautiful prettybird and they do sort of look regal as if it's their sofa!

A doctor who wanted to make a difference - now he's top Covid adviser to Biden.

Hahaha that Bernie Ghost gloves clip is brilliant!

merrymouse · 23/01/2021 09:56

The Republicans too have to get their own house in order and decide whether they want to become the US Nazi party #2.

At the moment I think lots of Republican politicians just seem worried about their jobs and being primaried.

What’s not clear is whether they care about the country in 10 years. The existence of America depends on maintaining a balance between state power (so Wyoming has as many senators as California) and national unity. (Nothing unique about that - the U.K. and the EU have similar issues)

If that is pushed too far (and Ted Cruz just seems to lack principles and want power) something has to give.

We keep hearing about the 74 million people who voted for Trump as if millions more didn’t vote for Biden. If the Republican Party goes full Trump, their power will still be based on a shaky framework of uneven representation and that isn’t sustainable.

lionheart · 23/01/2021 09:57

This one seems detemined to fill the Trump shaped hole left by the Twitter ban

Love the way that the Bernie Sanders pic has taken on a life of its own in the meme world.

But this?!

Roussette · 23/01/2021 10:20

thesunwillout Yes, it's my favourite of all the memes!

Great article here with an interview with Seth Meyers and Bernie about inauguration day, impeachment, about protecting the american people, the poor and hungry, and moving forward, and his mittens of course.
He's great. He always comes across as quite dour but he shows great humour in this interview, and then great empathy talking about the problems facing America.

merrymouse I love the crochet Bernie!
How clever people are to get a pattern out for this so quickly. Love the ingenuity!

PerkingFaintly · 23/01/2021 11:48

That's OK, Lauren, we know you'll be tweeting his whereabouts to your friends.Hmm

If they can keep up with him, of course, as jogs about the place. Maybe they can take a breather while he explains to them – in whole sentences – how to organise a response to a pandemic. Or what the Paris Agreement is.

They may struggle to keep up, of course, as some of Lauren's little friends don't seem the sharpest tools in the box.

Petition by Brewdog:
www.change.org/p/scottish-government-joe-biden-international-airport
Donald Trump is scheduled to arrive in Scotland later this week.
He always flies into Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
We believe this airport should be renamed 'Joe Biden International'.

I'd happily sign if it was clear it was a jolly jape and renamed for a day. But generally I have a very deep aversion to things being named after (or for, if you are American) living people. I still the the David Attemborough is a dreadful choice.

DGRossetti · 23/01/2021 12:03

Wasn't Bernie Sanders the Devil Incarnate a few weeks ago ?

Funny old world.

You might be lucky to: you sign, and they send you email saying "click on this link to sign in"; so you click on the link and it takes you back to the petition. There is as far as I can make out no way to get in touch with a human being to say "your link isn't working", and their helpline is a bot.

I may be getting "please sign in by clicking on this link" emails until the end of time; two so far.
