"For there is always light
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it."

— Amanda Gorman, 20 Jan 2021, inauguration of President Joe R Biden

In the UK we have Pfizer and the Oxford/Astra Zeneca (which I had). Moderna is about to come on stream.

They're all mRNA vaccines, just slightly different in what they're based on.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/01/2021 15:39

As far as Cruz, he's seeing himself as DOOFUS redux, the 'heir apparent' for 2024. I think we're going to see him 'modeling' a lot of DOOFUS' mannerisms and words as time goes by. By this time next year I expect to see him with an orange face and a lemon-blond combover.

Wouldn’t that make him the hair apparent?

OHolyTights · 22/01/2021 15:47

Thanks for that link @TheNorthWestPawsage
Our own cat watched the inauguration quite closely on the laptop, obviously in the known that the wind of change was in the air.

OHolyTights · 22/01/2021 15:48

know not known - apologies

I'm not a real 'maths and science' person, I've always been more of a 'history and literature' person.

But I find the science behind these 'RNA-type' vaccines to be fascinating. What I understand of it! Grin

Just waiting for twitter to ban Iran supreme leader for inciting violence after his tweet about taking revenge....oh no wait his account it still active.

Hypocrisy much!

Your wait is over

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-55765516

A Twitter account linked to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has posted what appears to be a call for an attack on Donald Trump in revenge for last year's killing of its top military commander, Gen Qasem Soleimani.
The post features a depiction of a man resembling the former US president playing golf in the shadow of a warplane or large drone.
"Vengeance is inevitable," it reads.
The social media giant has now suspended the account - @khamenei_site.
Twitter said the account had violated its rules and it directed readers to a list of prohibited acts, including threatening violence.

With thanks to @AcrossthePond55 , who quite correctly stated that the Na Na Na Na Hey Hey-ey Goodbye link was too good not to share.

CNN refers to Biden's 1st days as 'Radical Normality'. True words!

They're all mRNA vaccines, just slightly different in what they're based on.

The Oxford Astrazenica is not an mRNA vaccine - its based on chimpanzee adenovirus - relatively 'old' technology - hence its not as temperature sensitive as the mRNA base which is a 'new' vaccine technology.

Also means the behaviour of the Oxford vaccine might reasonably be expected to be similar to previous vaccines.
@lifesabitchandthenyoudie

Biden has previously been accused a being a bit too touchy feely with women, although he seems quite a warm person in general. Some women have reported feeling uncomfortable. And it is really something he should have been more aware of and should avoid.
However, it is the type of accusation that really doesn't go into sexual harassment territory. Certainly nowhere near grab them by the pussy.
Yes, but these days when it comes to online whisper campaigns it's hard to tell what's a Me Too rumour and what's a QAnon freak trying to draw you down the rabbit hole.

The problem with that particular on-ramp for the Q-believers is that for the average person who remembers "grab them by the pussy," it's impossible to see why this particular whisper is considered to be even moderately effective. They voted in much worse with Trump.

Biden, his GC and Sasha and Malia Obama.

Maisy shared how despite a busy campaign season amid the coronavirus pandemic, her grandfather always made it a habit to maintain frequent communication.

“That’s something that I feel like some people don’t believe when we say that he literally calls, not just, like, one of us every few days,” she remarked. “He calls me, then calls Naomi, then he calls Finn, then he calls Natalie, then he calls Ashley, and then he calls little Hunter.”

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/01/2021 16:59

DGRossetti
Normalcy ?

That was Warren G. Harding's campaign slogan after WWI and the flu pandemic, wasn't it? "Return to normalcy".

I rather like the older word normality. It seems to fit with stability, somehow.

pointythings · 22/01/2021 17:02

Thanks, Frankie - got that mixed up in my head.

We can't use any of the mRNA vaccines in the community for our housebound patients because of the temperature and transport issues.

I was taught it was FDR in his fireside chats Smile ...
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/01/2021 17:37

Harding seems to have rediscovered the word and got a bit of stick for it, because people assumed he had invented it and they didn't like it much. It's actually about the same age as "normality", but it hadn't been used much for some time before Harding.

Presumably Roosevelt got it from him?

TheSilveryPussycat · 22/01/2021 18:21

I don't think that "normalcy" is in the lexicon of British English - we would always say "normality", though we understand "normalcy".

SenecaFallsRedux · 22/01/2021 18:24

I noticed that Dr. Fauci used "normality" in his latest briefing. He, like a lot of us oldies, was probably taught that "normalcy" is not a word. As anti-pedantic as I try to be, I still can't bring myself to use it.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 22/01/2021 18:29
