"For there is always light
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it."

— Amanda Gorman, 20 Jan 2021, inauguration of President Joe R Biden

Donald Trump was fooled into talking to prankster pretending to be Piers Morgan, TV presenter says

In what Morgan describes as a "hilarious story", the former president was duped while travelling on Air Force One.

Pete Buttegieg is the single most impressive figure to have come to prominence in the past 4 years IMO.

Pete Buttegieg does what he should be doing and what was missed in the last Administration

How's PeteButtigieg's Senate Commerce Committee Hearing going? Let @SenatorTester tell you:

"You have put on a clinic on how a nominee should work and act. You havent avoided the questions, you've been straightforward, and you know what the hell you're talking about."

notes "put on a clinic" as a possible incoming USAism ...

(Over to you @BYagoda)

I have a list of faves.... Pete Buttegieg (he was the only one that held the floor on Fox and really really called them out) is at the top.

Then at the bottom of the Republican party we have this ignoramus...
I had to reply to his tweet in very strong terms.

Senator Ted Cruz
@SenTedCruz
By rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, President Biden indicates he’s more interested in the views of the citizens of Paris than in the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh. This agreement will do little to affect the climate and will harm the livelihoods of Americans

Is there someone so utterly thick in the House? Does he honestly honestly think the Paris Accord is for Parisiens, and not realise it's called that because it was just ratified and signed in Paris.
I despair.
I thought we had some thick politicians but really....

lifeturnsonadime · 22/01/2021 13:43

Re. Senator Cruz, he's surely not that thick? But he's appealing to his, possibly less educated, voter base.

Please tell me that someone so stupid can't have successfully run for office!

AcrossthePond55 · 22/01/2021 13:50

I know we're trying to move beyond 'the exPOTUS who shall not be named' but this is just too good not to share.

PerkingFaintly · 22/01/2021 13:50

Yeah, Cruz doesn't believe that.

But he believes that the cultists will believe that.

Or he believes that the cultists will pretend to believe that, to give themselves cover for following him.

And they follow him for other things he and they do actually believe. The sort of things that, until recently, weren't being said out loud.

He is prepared to come across as utterly brainless to stoke anger and division then... could be so.

I love that "Hey Hey Goodbye," Across!

(Think it must have been linked earlier, as I watched it yesterday... several times. And now, I can do so again today. Win!)

That Pittsburgh/Paris thingy is a direct quote from exScrotus' (still can't come up with a clever name) statement on withdrawing from the Paris Accord.

If you try to pull up the statement on WH,gov it gets you a 404 error which i find amusing although I expect it's normal procedure.

Anyway...

minou123 · 22/01/2021 13:57

I think Ted Cruz is even more dangerous than that, Roussette

His tweet about the Paris Accord is purely to invite hatred and violence.
He knows the Paris Accord isn't about citizens of Paris taking away jobs from Pittsberg.
He is banking on the fact there are people who will believe him. He is whipping them up into a frenzy about "foreigners taking our jobs", knowing they will now turn on Biden and also, potentially harming any foreigners they see.
This is a brilliant example of how a lie can influence people into hatred and violence.

I don't know why I was shocked when I saw his tweet, because its typical of him, Trump and Josh Hawley.

Sorry for my rant, I am really angry about this.

Didn't realize! But yes, it's like a fine wine. The second time round is as good as the first!

For those interested, DH and I have sore arms but that's about it. Kinda feels the way your arm feels if you get 'knuckle punched', or when you get a Tetanus shot.

He probably has a signed photo of Nigel Farage somewhere.
Roussette · 22/01/2021 14:02

Thanks for the update Across, I did wonder. Our friends in Naples, Florida have had it too with no effects to speak of.

minou I agree. It makes me very angry too. He got quite a roasting in response.

lifesabitchandthenyoudie · 22/01/2021 14:02

I wonder if you clever people can help me out; a friend has posted a video of Biden sniffing girls' hair and acting inappropriately with them; I remember there being some chat about it and wondered if you could point me to more/correct info... to debunk if it's not true, to educate myself if it is, and to be able to discuss it. Also there's an image of violence at 'an inauguration' - and then it's stated it's at Trump's. Does anyone know if there was violence? I can't remember. Thank you ! x

cyclingmad · 22/01/2021 14:04

Just waiting for twitter to ban Iran supreme leader for inciting violence after his tweet about taking revenge....oh no wait his account it still active.

Hypocrisy much!

No prob.

I also got signed up for the 'vsafe' program. It's a CDC monitoring site where they text you for 'progress reports' on how you're doing. So I'm helping research as well as helping keep myself and others safe!

Your friends in Naples probably got the same flyer when they were vaccinated.

ListeningQuietly · 22/01/2021 14:10

I am very concerned about McConnell

He is being crassly partisan again
even though his 50 Senators represent millions less Americans
than are in the Democrat states.

It is going to take a lot of guile to work around him
and pray that he and Cruz do not whip up a storm to delay until the mid terms.

lifesabitchandthenyoudie · 22/01/2021 14:10

@AcrossthePond55 nailed it! (ROFL)

PerkingFaintly · 22/01/2021 14:14

In fact, the easiest way to understand Cruz is just to watch the online squirrels.

Neither he nor they believe what they say.

(I find the squirrels quite useful on occasion, especially those who aren't terribly good at it. They make overt that this behaviour is simply a tactic; and they give away the talking points we can expect to see from smarter ones who are actually a bit subtler about it. Handy primer!Smile)
