"For there is always light
If only we're brave enough to see it
If only we're brave enough to be it."

— Amanda Gorman, 20 Jan 2021, inauguration of President Joe R Biden

@Mittens030869
I thought I'd give her enough time to find something to show us that the man had an ounce of decency and humanity in him. The man who so many are willing to give their lives for Confused

And she wonders why so many on here feel the way they do about him Hmm

edition.cnn.com/2021/01/21/politics/biden-covid-vaccination-trump/index.html

'Newly sworn in President Joe Biden and his advisers are inheriting no coronavirus vaccine distribution plan to speak of from the Trump administration, sources tell CNN, posing a significant challenge for the new White House.

The Biden administration has promised to try to turn the Covid-19 pandemic around and drastically speed up the pace of vaccinating Americans against the virus. But in the immediate hours following Biden being sworn into office on Wednesday, sources with direct knowledge of the new administration's Covid-related work told CNN one of the biggest shocks that the Biden team had to digest during the transition period was what they saw as a complete lack of a vaccine distribution strategy under former President Donald Trump, even weeks after multiple vaccines were approved for use in the United States.'

@minou123

I am going to have to watch the West Wing. I've clearly missed out.

One of the best tv series ever made.
Certainly the best ever to come out of the US.

CanadianJohn · 22/01/2021 04:40

Articles of Impeachment have been filed against Joe Biden.

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga) accused Joe Biden of "enabling bribery" and "blatant nepotism" by utilizing his son Hunter Biden’s position on the Ukrainian energy company, Burisma.

Republicans just gotta be Republicans, don't they.

CanadianJohn · 22/01/2021 04:44

oops, sorry, I see that this has been discussed extensively upthread.

Give me the pointy hat, I'll go sit in the corner,

MaggieFS · 22/01/2021 05:39

@NotaRealLawyer

It'd be 'over to Schumer' as Nancy is the Speaker of the House. Schumer is Senate Majority Leader (McConnell's old position).

AcrossThe Pond, But isn't it Nancy Pelosi, as Speaker, who decides to send the Article? I thought "the date" was ultimately in her hands? That's what I meant in my post.
Or have I got it wrong then?
But bow to you, as you are USA. Smile

Yes, I read (BBC article) that the timing is up to when Pelosi passes it on.

A balancing act to be had between if they will get more Republican support for going with McConnell's request plus smooth agreement to Biden's cabinet choices vs. capitalising on the understandable outrage whilst memories are still fresh.

Love this.
The 'before' and 'after' of Dr. Fauci.
twitter.com/MeidasTouch/status/1352505756591898629

This man with such a huge career needs to be applauded for hanging around after all he went through with Trump. He is saying that now he can talk about what he knows regarding the pandemic is 'liberating'.

I don't miss Dr. Birx however. She was far more onboard with Trump's nonsense about the pandemic than Fauci was.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 22/01/2021 08:35

Dr Fauci looks so happy in that 2nd clip. Brightened up a very dark morning Grin

borntobequiet · 22/01/2021 08:57

I agree delaying any impeachment trial would be better. The more time people have to get used to a grown up government saying and doing sensible things the more ridiculous and appalling the previous one will appear when eventually it’s discussed in retrospect.

Roussette · 22/01/2021 09:02

I agree borntobequiet Delaying, yes, but not for too long. I honestly think it's still sinking in what happened, and once the chatter about the inauguration dies down totally, more will come out about this shocking invasion and attempt to stop democracy I still think it needs to sink in.

oops, sorry, I see that this has been discussed extensively upthread.

Give me the pointy hat, I'll go sit in the corner,

Don't go anywhere near the corner--it is already occupied.

These threads have been moving so fast there is sure to be repetition but I don't think that's a bad thing at all.

Did the articles actually reach their destination or is the jury still out on that one?

Good Lord.

www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/house-congressman-gun-andy-harris_n_600a0874c5b674575ae423ae?ri18n=true

'WASHINGTON ― New security measures outside the U.S. House chamber prevented a Republican lawmaker from bringing a gun onto the House floor Thursday.

'Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), who has repeatedly flouted the magnetometers that were installed near the House chamber after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, set off the metal detectors while trying to enter. When an officer with a metal detector wand scanned him, a firearm was detected on Harris’s side, concealed by his suit coat. Police refused to let Harris in, and the officer signaled a security agent that Harris had a gun on him by motioning toward his own firearm.'

I love the idea that Trump could possibly be a left plant, rather than an opportunistic con man who was able to trick so many who just wanted to hear someone agree with them.
It's not a secret that Trump used to be a Democrat. That he is not religious. That he was never against abortion.
They self deluded.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/01/2021 11:13

And that is why you can never reason with a conspiracy theorist. Cos there's always a more batshit conspiracy theory to explain whatever evidence you have...

FrankieStein402 · 22/01/2021 11:14

'.... deep left plant' - Oh poo - the cat's out of the bag (I don't have a cat so no image - sorry) - time to pull McConnell before they work out he was the agent runner.

How's PeteButtigieg's Senate Commerce Committee Hearing going? Let @SenatorTester tell you:

"You have put on a clinic on how a nominee should work and act. You havent avoided the questions, you've been straightforward, and you know what the hell you're talking about."
