Can I fly to Spain

IndieRo · 20/01/2021 11:34

I will probably get slaughtered for even asking but here we go. I live in Ireland and own a home in Spain. During last lockdown, March to July 2020 we stayed at home in Ireland as we were not sure of the situation. Our schools are meant to be back on the 31st January but I can't see this happening. Its all just so depressing. From what I can see I can fly to Spain and quarantine when I fly back to Ireland. Our house is on its own, private pool etc so would basically just stay in apart from going the supermarket. Is there anybody currently living in Alicante that can advise me more.

Ffs.
What bit of “essential travel” do you not understand!

IndieRo · 20/01/2021 11:37

I don't live in the UK, different rules

We own a house in Andalucia that we haven’t visited in 18 months
I can’t say for your region but Andalucia is pretty much closed. I know a couple of people with Residency who managed to get back in but in general we are being advised not to

Hueandcry · 20/01/2021 11:40

No

Twoginsonetonic · 20/01/2021 11:41

The first thing to reopen will be schools. UK and Ireland I would imagine. Hang in there.

Hoppinggreen · 20/01/2021 11:43

I also imagine you will get quite a lot of flack on here for considering it too

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 20/01/2021 11:43

Travelling when it’s not essential during a pandemic isn’t a great idea, rules or not, even if you ‘only’ go to the supermarket (and the airports of course).

Lineofconcepcion · 20/01/2021 11:44

You can only get guaranteed entry into Spain currently if you have Spanish residency.

Procrastination4 · 20/01/2021 11:46

Please don’t do that. We have (or had just recently ) the highest rate of covid per 100,000. Why would you want to risk infecting the people who live where your holiday home is? You won’t be able to quarantine when you get there surely, as you’ll need to get food supplies. Could you have it on your conscience? Do you not realise that it was all the nonessential travel just before Christmas that led to our crazy rate of infection? Why would you risk doing the same to another country? You may say you’re just one person but plenty of people living in Ireland own homes abroad. If they all decided to fly to them...Just don’t!

Calmandmeasured1 · 20/01/2021 11:53

I don't know what happens after January 31st but Valencia has closed its borders until at least then. Presumably, the region's rulers will announce nearer the time whether the borders will remain closed or not.

It doesn't sound as if it is worth travelling there, even if you could after 31st, if you would just be going for recreation, as the hospitals are in crisis, pubs and restaurants are just takeaway, no gyms and other hospitality open etc. They are considering an 8 p.m. curfew:

tttigress · 20/01/2021 11:58

I think a lot of people on here will try to put you off, but I believe flying from Ireland you can, but need to have a negative Covid test:

www.spth.gob.es/

You may struggle to get a direct flight though

acatcalledjohn · 20/01/2021 12:00

During last lockdown, March to July 2020 we stayed at home in Ireland as we were not sure of the situation.

Are you saying you did go there between July and the latest lockdown?

emilyfrost · 20/01/2021 12:03

YABU and selfish.

IndieRo · 20/01/2021 12:04

Yes you can fly to Spain from Ireland with a negative test.
@acatcalledjohn, no We have not been there since August 2019. When they eased restrictions last July to travel we could have went to Spain but we didn't.

acatcalledjohn · 20/01/2021 12:08

Good. Glad to hear you haven't been.

Do you honestly think that travelling through airports and spending 2-3 hours on a plane doesn't contribute to the spread of the virus? Because if you do, you are phenomenally ignorant.

I'd like to see my parents sometime this year. They live abroad. It's been over a year since I last saw them. Seeing people travelling for no good reason other than their own selfish desire to have a holiday makes me feel stabby because those people are making this last even longer than it needs to.

Don't fucking go. Another 6 month wait won't kill you.

COVID, however, might.

Quinto5 · 20/01/2021 12:10

I understand you can only travel into the country if you have a Spanish passport or residencia documents.
The Valencian community which Alicante is a part of, from midnight tonight have imposed further restrictions, all bars and restaurants will be closed for at least 14 days, and they are asking for an 8pm curfew, although this is yet to be granted.
Neighbouring Murcia have similar restrictions in place.
The infection rate in my local area is rapidly increasing, from 18 to 144 in the last week.
Locally people are really worried, more so than in the previous lockdown.

MrsWaititi · 20/01/2021 12:16

No I don't think you can, I think you need a Spanish passport.

I don't blame you for wanting to though.

FelicityPike · 20/01/2021 12:18

@IndieRo

I don't live in the UK, different rules
I realised that when you wrote that you live in Ireland!! It’s still selfish and definitely not essential.
Fuckitsstillraining · 20/01/2021 12:19

FFS stay at home. I too have a house in Spain, its self contained but guess what, I'd have to travel from my home to the airport, fly to Spain, collect my car, shop and then go to my house. I could quarantine there but would have encountered quite a few people on the way and when I finish that I'm still stuck due to severe restrictions, the way its done there means I couldn't even go to the nearest supermarket, I'd have to drive to one further away due to locality lockdown. Also consider if you got ill or had any type of accident requiring medical assistance you could end up relying on Spanish health care, I've seen and experienced that and I certainly wouldn't want to repeat it during a pandemic. I've not been to our house in over a year, I miss it and would normally spend months there each year ironically for health reasons but there's no way its essential and by going you are being incredibly selfish and I sinkhole you have family brave enough to tell you to cop the fuck on.

Jokie · 20/01/2021 12:20

You'll need a negative covid test and you need to be able to prove Spanish residency (I believe). As others have said: most of the country is in Tier3 lockdown so it's quite restricted.

HildegardNightingale · 20/01/2021 12:23

We are in a similar situation. Own an apartment in Andalusia that we haven’t been to since Nov 2019.
You know you just have to suck it up. There’s a global pandemic out there. The less people travelling around the less we are allowing this bastard virus to flourish.

saffire · 20/01/2021 12:26

Do you have Spanish residency? If not then no you can't go. Also, they are bringing in various local restrictions, so even if you did manage to get in, you may not be allowed to move between municipalities.

RoisinD · 20/01/2021 12:28

Covid figures per head of population for Ireland are extremly high. It has the worst rate in the world!! I assume you live within 5km of Dublin airport as it is the only one still operating flights.

Notmybloodymonkeys · 20/01/2021 12:32

I live in Spain and as far as I’m aware you’ll only be allowed in if you’re a citizen or legal resident.

Even if you could come here there are lots of restrictions in place about where we can go/what we can do, we have strict curfews, and bars and restaurants are closed (at least where I live).

Please stay at home.
