Can I fly to Spain

IndieRo · 20/01/2021 11:34

I will probably get slaughtered for even asking but here we go. I live in Ireland and own a home in Spain. During last lockdown, March to July 2020 we stayed at home in Ireland as we were not sure of the situation. Our schools are meant to be back on the 31st January but I can't see this happening. Its all just so depressing. From what I can see I can fly to Spain and quarantine when I fly back to Ireland. Our house is on its own, private pool etc so would basically just stay in apart from going the supermarket. Is there anybody currently living in Alicante that can advise me more.

OP posts:
Mangofandangoo · 20/01/2021 23:10

MIL lives in Alicante and there's another imminent lockdown looming

acatcalledjohn · 20/01/2021 23:41

@MrsTerryPratchett Thanks Dual nationality here too. Unfortunately the country where my parents are have blocked travel from the UK so unless - heaven forbid - something happens to them and I have a good reason for travelling (plus a private negative test) I cannot go.

Not to mention my DF doesn't have age and lung health on his side. Travelling now with so many selfish wankpuffins around is just not worth the risk.

Keepyourdistance000 · 20/01/2021 23:47

@Lineofconcepcion

I went out in July, came back November, no problem at all.
That was then. Things are a bit different at the moment Confused

Does the Taoiseach read Mumsnet?

The Taoiseach was on Ireland AM this morning. RTE are reporting:

In relation to travel bans the Taoiseach said, 'We say to people do not travel in or out.''

It's as if he's answering your question OP. That good enough to convince you to not go to Spain?

Thesheerrelief · 21/01/2021 12:43

Mumsnet is essential reading for all taoisigh! Grin

If he says cancel the cheque or get your ducks in a row then we know he's one of us

fuzzyduck1 · 21/01/2021 12:47

Yeah go for it just don’t come to the UK.

ohbygolly · 21/01/2021 14:19

Mumsnet is essential reading for all taoisigh!

If he says cancel the cheque or get your ducks in a row then we know he's one of us

Or if he tells us a trip to M&S for naice ham isn't an essential journey!

reallyexhausted · 21/01/2021 14:41

@IndieRo I don't see why not if it's allowed and you do it within the guidelines. I'm in England where all non essential travel is banned. If it's different in Ireland and you follow any restrictions Spain has ( like a negative covid test ), then you should be fine.

What people don't realise is that you're not in England. Also if a negative covid test is the requirement to fly now, it's definitely a plus as it will decrease the chances of infected travellers. Not to zero, but more than with no test. Good luck ! I hope you can go and have a wonderful time !

acatcalledjohn · 21/01/2021 14:49

What people don't realise is that you're not in England.

What people don't realise is that travelling unnecessarily promotes the spread of the virus.

There. Fixed it.

UpShutTheFuck · 21/01/2021 15:07

What people don't realise is that you're not in England

Is that why there are so many replies referring to the current rules in Ireland and quoting the Taoiseach then?

ohbygolly · 21/01/2021 16:19

And I hope your obvious lack of basic comprehension skills doesn't cause you serious injury as you go about your daily life.

I mean, seriously, what was the point of that post? The OPs opening line says she's in Ireland. It was followed by a number of posts acknowledging rules might be different in Ireland, but it's probably not a good idea to go. And then there were a number of posts from those of us in Ireland saying it's not allowed. And still, you're going to pull us up on our comprehension skills, and wish the OP luck, and hope she gets to travel.

I mean if this weren't so serious it'd be laughable. How the fuck is appropriate for somebody in England to say if it's within your guidelines, when it's been repeatedly pointed out it's not, to then say 'Off with you'? Essentially, 'Ignore those previous posters in Ireland and Spain, and do whatever the fuck you like. I've said it's okay.'

MissMarpleDarling · 21/01/2021 20:21

If you do I'm going to mine! Course we can't OP.

FitzsimmonsMarvel · 21/01/2021 20:27

@IndieRo Eh yeah the Irish rules are stricter than the U.K. ones so you definitely can’t go!!!

Do you like in Swords? If not you’re more than 5km from the airport so you’d be breaking the 5km travel rule

Is it an essential journey to the airport? No! So you’re also breaking that rule

Is it an essential trip abroad? No! And guidance is only essential travel.

So it’s quite clear from the rules and guidance that you can’t go. There is zero ambiguity there.

The Irish rules are
STAY AT HOME
To leave your home for ESSENTIAL reasons only - ie food
To stay within 5km of your home

Procrastination4 · 23/01/2021 15:37

@Thesheerrelief

I actually heard someone (perhaps from Nphet or HSE) use that expression(ducks in a row) on the radio earlier today. I immediately thought “Mmm I’ve only ever heard that expression on Mumsnet...”Grin
Thesheerrelief · 23/01/2021 18:20

It's a sign. They read this thread and are letting us know that they know

We should be verrrrry afraid... or rather, IndieRo should beGrin
KarmaStar · 23/01/2021 23:25

From reading the post and some of the idiots supporting the op in her desire to selfishly travel for a sunny holiday l realise why the covid has killed so many people.
Stay.at.home. It really is that simple.

Inniu · 23/01/2021 23:30

The gardai now have check points around the airport. If you are more than 5km from home and can’t prove your journey including any flight are essential then you will be sent home.

So I guess that is a no.

user1496146479 · 23/01/2021 23:50

@IndieRo

I don't live in the UK, different rules
Ffs!!! Still only essential travel allowed!! How bloody hard is it to understand Hmm
Defenbaker · 24/01/2021 00:02

YABU, and so is anyone else flying off for a bit of sunshine, during the peak of a pandemic. We're all bored and fed up, but that doesn't justify people pushing rules to the limit, or breaking them, for such selfish reasons.

AgentJohnson · 24/01/2021 07:05

Do you pilot your own plane and have the ability to not travel through an airport. If not, then hell no!

Which part of travelling in a pandemic do you not understand? Give me strength!

DuzzyFuck · 24/01/2021 07:08

Are you Spanish residents? If not then I don't think you can. A friend of mine flew home to Barcelona recently and reported people being taken from the passport control desks into a holding room to be sent straight back to where they'd come from.

Ulelia · 24/01/2021 07:14

As an EU resident you can fly to Spain whether you have residency there or not. I went to alicante recently to look after my grandad who needed help.

Ulelia · 24/01/2021 07:27

Not that I think you should go OP, or even if you can with the 5km rule in Ireland, just correcting all the posters that think all EU borders are closed. They are to non EU citizens if they don't have PR. That's all.

TwilledSilesia · 24/01/2021 07:27

@Ulelia

What Spain might allow is completely irrelevant, as the OP, under current Irish lockdown restrictions, is only allowed to leave her house for essential reasons, and is not allowed to go more than 5 k from her house if she does.

The OP, of course, is well aware of this.

I had to have a COVID test on Friday, and as the test centre is between two routes out of the city, I was stopped at not one but two police checkpoints en route.
