Looks like he's leaving early.

www.washingtonian.com/2021/01/19/how-to-watch-trump-leave-town/

People have been invited for 6 am for an 8 am ceremony. I think that's 1 pm here?

TurquoiseBaubles · 20/01/2021 05:41

It also looks a bit like rent-a-crowd. Everyone invited is allowed to bring 5 friends with them Grin. I do hope no-one turns up.

Thanks for that link. It says he'll still (just) be SCROTUS when he touches down in Florida. It's going to really fuck with his head when he's on the drive to Mar-A-Lago and then suddenly he's not.

At least it saves the Air Force 1 captain from having to announce it on the tannoy.

I'm assuming SCROTUS is leaving the nuke-u-ler codes in the plane or at Andrews Base?

TurquoiseBaubles · 20/01/2021 06:27

I presume he intends to spend the entire flight signing pardons. It would be very funny if the person with the document bag accidentally left it behind.

boatyardblues · 20/01/2021 06:53

What time (UK) do I need to be hunkering down in front of the telly for Biden and Harris’ swearing-in?

JamieLeeCurtains · 20/01/2021 06:57

Should be 5pm UK time for the swearing, but I think it all kicks off at 4pm?

Lonelycrab · 20/01/2021 06:58

Woohoo thanks for the new thread🥂🍾
Feel a bit emotional this morning. It’s like the end of a really bad nightmare.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 20/01/2021 07:05

Thank you for the new thread, @ArrrMeHearties.

From the previous thread, @boatyardblues wrote:
"Much as I am loathe to suggest splitting the thread, is there scope for a Biden thread (future focussed, clearing up the mess) and a continuation of Trump (impeachment and inevitable prosecutions)?"

My immediate reaction is that hopefully we won't be needing any more of these threads at all, as Biden will be behaving properly Presidentially and Trump (spit) will be rotting in prison in an orange jumpsuit.

BelfastBloke · 20/01/2021 07:25

Presumably Trump’s little ceremony he’s concocted for 8am USA time will be televised? What’s the point of doing something if it’s not on TV, right?

What’s the best way to watch livestream news on my Apple TV? I normally just watch BBC News channel.

I have CNN Go app and its equivalent of Fox News app, but both of those appear to only show news clips, not a live feed. Do I need a different app for each, or do I need to pay a subscription?

coffeeandbiscuittime · 20/01/2021 07:43

So the list of pardons has begun , Steve Bannon being one of them, in his final acts he remains despicable- but that really is expected of him.

He is also said to be debating to set up a new party " The Patriot Party". Hopefully that will encourage 16 senators to vote to impeach him.

I'm thrilled.

Bye bye Trump. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Roussette · 20/01/2021 07:51

I shall certainly be watching Trump leaving at noon or 1pm today, whenever it is. I want to make sure he is actually gone and need to see it with my own eyes.

I want Biden and Pelosi to show us the full extent of their political, executive, legislative and diplomatic skills. I want Harris, a decent and straightforward (relatively) politician, to be American’s conscience. If they bring stability and order within two years, it’ll be a job well done. Let the GOP fight amongst themselves

So agree with this. i want peace and quiet and stability and to be bored with politics again (in US and UK)

pointythings · 20/01/2021 07:54

My colleague is American and she's having today and tomorrow off to celebrate. This sadly means I have to cover her work, so it's going to be day from Hell, but I don't begrudge her a moment of it.

DD1 turns 20 today and as well as presents, she'll get a new President - both my DDs are US citizens. I'm just relieved the grown-ups will be back in charge.

Roussette · 20/01/2021 08:05

On the pardons. No, there hasn't been any nepotism in this Administration, no sirree. Hmm

'Also on the list was Ken Kurson, a friend of Jared Kushner who was charged in October last year with cyberstalking during a heated divorce.'

Poor old Joe Exotic, Tiger King, he had to send his limousine away, no pardon for him and no new series Grin

Steve Bannon is not a surprise, he stole more than $1M from fundraising for a wall, but Trump will need his advice now.

To be fair to Trump, some of the Pardons seem reasonable.

@BelfastBloke

I'm watching CNN international live in my browser here:
edition.cnn.com/specials/live-cnni-uk
and airplaying it to my Apple TV.

notimagain · 20/01/2021 08:08

Regarding AF1, isn't it any airforce plane carrying the President? So AF1 can't bring the President Elect or take the previous one, by definition, because it's not carrying the President. The aircraft that is usually used as AF1 can, but it won't be AF1 then.

That's how I understand it generally works..There's a small fleet of military presidential aircraft (including the two modified 747's), that can carry the label/ callsign and it's usually only used if POTUS is onboard, for other flights they'll use different callsigns.

RedToothBrush · 20/01/2021 08:16

I thought Steve Bannon was on the list of people who were definitely not getting a pardon.

Pardons can only be applied retrospectively on things done before 21st January 2021 right?

Doesn't that mean Bannon is liable to wind up in trouble in the future anyway?

TurquoiseBaubles · 20/01/2021 08:19

Bannon must know a hell of a lot Trump doesn't want him to talk about.

I really hope that all these people who have received political pardons for federal offences can be chased and caught for something else. Like Trump, who I suspect will only ever be convicted of something like tax avoidance.

TurquoiseBaubles · 20/01/2021 08:25

CNN has implied that Biden had to use a private plane (a non-government plane) because the outgoing administration didn't accord him the courtesy of sending a plane for him.

The Daily Mail has run with the story. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9164707/Biden-cries-leaves-Delaware-fsaying-Beau-introducing-president.html

Of course he bloody does.

We may well see whether Presidential pardons fully hold up.

If Bannon is up to his neck in shit he is unlikely to stop today. In which case a man who can be bought off with pardons may be an interesting prospect for prosectors with eyes on bigger prizes...

YAAAAAAASSSS think I’ll have a small drink tonight clink

With reports that Donald Trump may fly to Scotland after he leaves office, BrewDog have started a petition to rename Prestwick Airport ‘Joe Biden International’.

PMK.

Would be so nice if those positive winds of change in America became the jet stream that swept across the Atlantic to blow away the incompetent and insufferable UK politicians

@AhmedBaba_

4 years ago, I started documenting every day of Trump's presidency.
1,461 days and thousands of cups of coffee later and here we are.
I've put together a summary of Trump’s entire term and an index linking to contemporaneous analysis covering every day.

This guy deserves a medal. And here is his Analysis and Guide
