Dog poo-ing on our garden every morning and evening. AIBU to say something?

We live in a quiet area with just three houses in a sort of cul de sac. We are part of a small estate but at the bottom of it. Nobody comes down here unless they live here or are delivering something really.

However there is a cut through at the top and every morning and evening for the past week, a woman has started appearing from this cut through and walking past our house with her large dog. And every morning and evening, this dog is doing a poo on my front garden.

It cocks it's leg on my bushes and had a wee and then settles down for a poo. And yes - she does stand there watching and picks it up

The reason I know? We have security cameras. The reason I've not said anything to her yet? I have annoyingly either been asleep/ in the shower/ in the garage/ out shopping. Nearly managed it this morning but by the time I'd opened my front door, she was turning the corner and I wasn't about to screech!

So ... onto my AIBU. My DH thinks that as she's picking it up then meh, not a massive deal. I think differently - I don't want my front lawn used as a dog toilet and I think it's bad manners to allow your dog to do this. Once I sort of get - but this is now becoming a pattern.

AIBU to literally stake out my camera notifications today and ensure I can get to my front door and ask her to stop immediately? Or just ignore it?

There was a woman doing the same thing - allowing her dog to come into our front yard and poo - every day when we first moved here. In the end, dh lay in wait for her with a plastic bag, as soon as she appeared with her dog he ran out handed her the bag and said "pick it up please". She was furious but she picked it up and went on her way. Never let her dog poo in our place again.

Just hand her a bag and tell her to pick it up. Don't get into an argument, just repeat "pick it up please". If you thrust the bag at her first chances are she'll take it automatically, so don't let her give it back to you the same way! Step back a bit and watch her.

We have an open front garden and get this too. It is trespassing to allow your dog to do this, even if you pick it up. Some dog owners clearly think they have carte-blanche to allow their dogs to wander anywhere. They don't.

We've had words with people who do this. Most then stop, albeit with a token protest.

She does pick it up ! It's her only redeeming feature.

The point is, she shouldn't let the dog do it in the first place!

cittabassa · 18/01/2021 11:49

This woman does pick it up.

OP doesn't want her allowing the dog to poo there at all, quite rightly.

But she is picking it up, its not the picking up that is annoying OP rather that the woman is letting her dog do it in the first place

If it was on the edge of your lawn - YABU

But you say she lets it wander onto your lawn - YANBU

I don't let mine onto gardens, though he can be tricky to stop if he wants to go at the boundary!

livefornaps · 18/01/2021 11:51

I would say "get your fucking mucky mutt off my land. "

grauduroi · 18/01/2021 11:53

Pepper can cause irritation/harm to the dog and it's not the dogs fault - it's the owner.

Good luck with catching her today.

KeepOnKeepingOnKeepingOn · 18/01/2021 11:53

She is wrong. I would never let my dog on someone's lawn full stop, let alone to go to the toilet. Fortunately we live rurally so we don't walk near to others gardens. It's bad manners, and I'd be inclined to say something.

Tiktaktoe · 18/01/2021 11:54

I had this, I went out and told the lady to stop. She replied that she was picking up the poo. So I told her if it was that little of an issue she should take her dog to poo in her own fucking garden! Funnily enough she didn't want to do that! Hmm
I am so sick of dog owners and yes while some are decent and pick up after their dogs the majority don't seem to if the amount of dog shit I have to avoid on paths is anything to go by.

Isisiris · 18/01/2021 11:54

I'd say something. If no fence I can understand once being an absent minded mistake. But certainly not again and again! Could you put a sign up? I'd never let my dog do this, I'd be mortified if it accidentally happened once and wouldnt dare walk my dog there again for a while!

Trouble is someone who thinks this is okay, if neuro typical anyway, is unlikely to react reasonably IME.

YesPleaseMary · 18/01/2021 11:55

Even if she picks the poo up, between that and the wee you'll end up with a wrecked lawn. Tell her to stop letting her dog crapping on your garden.

BooBahBoo · 18/01/2021 11:55

I'd wait til the dog was mid poo then come out of the house so she's caught red handed. Then ask her what on earth she's doing. She probably won't let the dog do it again.

It's gross and quite disrespectful, imo.

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/01/2021 11:56

We used to have this in the house I grew up in. We lived on an unmade road that essentially ran between a farm and the river, and was beloved by dog walkers. We had one woman who would regularly allow her dog to shit in our garden, claiming that it was the verge and we didn’t own it, having a screaming match with my mother. One day my mother waited until she had walked off a little way, picked up the poo and flung it at the woman, hitting her squarely in the back. We never saw her again...

littlebetch · 18/01/2021 11:57

I'd be furious. As a previous dog owner I'd have never let my dog do this. A similar thing happened to me a while ago with a woman letting her huge dog wander about all over my front garden right up to my flower bed. I ended up having to shout through the window to her and luckily she seemed to stop after that. I hope you get this sorted.

Beanosaurus · 18/01/2021 11:57

I never allow my dog to go on people's garden, let alone poo on them! I would have to say something

SewingWarriorQueen76 · 18/01/2021 11:59

Someone kept leaving filled bags on our wall
I went out and put a poster saying they were on CCTV and to take their waste home. Worked a treat.

Yohoheaveho · 18/01/2021 11:59

Interesting how some dog owners are unable to see that it is wrong and offensive to let your pet shit in someone else's garden, they just go straight to 'well she's picking it up what's the problem?'
In that case why not just let your dog do it's business on your own premises?

EvilPea · 18/01/2021 11:59

Why let it onto other people’s gardens in the first place? That’s just rude without the toileting.

To be honest the poo would bother me less than the wee as that will damage your garden over time.

I think your going to have to say something. Sorry!!

peak2021 · 18/01/2021 12:00

Talk to them. If they do other than acknowledge and apologise you have the evidence.

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/01/2021 12:02

Of course this is unacceptable. As a dog owner I don't let my dog go onto other peoples gardens, let alone pee or poo on them. Defo have a word. She may think that as she is picking the poo up that its not a problem - but really as its your garden, its your choice, and if you don't want her dog doing that there, then she needs to ensure it doesn't happen. I HATE it when dog owners let the rest of us down like this!

viques · 18/01/2021 12:02

Stand outside with your phone and ask her to smile because you want a good photograph to put up on Facebook and send to the community police website.

In one way it’s a shame she’s picking up the poo because it means you can’t follow her home and return it.......

Yohoheaveho · 18/01/2021 12:03

I am so sick of dog owners
You are not alone, resentment of selfish dog owners is building

Xerochrysum · 18/01/2021 12:03

Print out the photo of the dog from video and put the sign up asking not to use the garden for the dog's toilet?

Graciebobcat · 18/01/2021 12:05

It's understandable to make a mistake once and not react quickly enough to the dog pooing on the lawn, but quite another to do it every single day! SIBVU and I would wait for her to come round one day and have words about it.
