Dog poo-ing on our garden every morning and evening. AIBU to say something?

We live in a quiet area with just three houses in a sort of cul de sac. We are part of a small estate but at the bottom of it. Nobody comes down here unless they live here or are delivering something really.

However there is a cut through at the top and every morning and evening for the past week, a woman has started appearing from this cut through and walking past our house with her large dog. And every morning and evening, this dog is doing a poo on my front garden.

It cocks it's leg on my bushes and had a wee and then settles down for a poo. And yes - she does stand there watching and picks it up

The reason I know? We have security cameras. The reason I've not said anything to her yet? I have annoyingly either been asleep/ in the shower/ in the garage/ out shopping. Nearly managed it this morning but by the time I'd opened my front door, she was turning the corner and I wasn't about to screech!

So ... onto my AIBU. My DH thinks that as she's picking it up then meh, not a massive deal. I think differently - I don't want my front lawn used as a dog toilet and I think it's bad manners to allow your dog to do this. Once I sort of get - but this is now becoming a pattern.

AIBU to literally stake out my camera notifications today and ensure I can get to my front door and ask her to stop immediately? Or just ignore it?

Intimidating dog Grin

Before this thread disappears I'd just like to say thanks to the OP. It's been very entertaining in real time: the problem, some suggested solutions, support from other villagers, lying in wait, the plot twist when you almost accosted the wrong woman & then the denouement. Bravo! Flowers

@StoneofDestiny - A domestic cat doesn’t mean it’s not free to roam.
Comparing a child to a cat, one who can communicate and one who cannot is invalid to your point, completely different species.
If I didn’t own cats, then some other person would and they’d still be doing the same. I’m not selfish enough to think that we’re the only species allowed to shit, animals have to shit, we have the convenience of flushing it away, animals don’t!

Anyhow, I have a frail old cat who is indoor only, she uses a litter tray and the other rarely goes out and uses a litter tray too, never had an issue with neighbours regarding poo and wee, most often the lady next door calls our younger cat over, as her granddaughter likes to stroke her.

I can't help feeling annoyed at this thread because I'm sure at least some of the people getting incensed about dog poo in a garden (that was picked up!) own cats that crap where they like while the owner gets away with doing nothing about it, and cats never seem to crap in their own gardens, so it's always someone else's problem. I am no fan of dog poo being left around and have even thrown away an almost new pair of trainers rather than scrape dog crap off them yet again after walking in the park, but I'm even less a fan of cat poo in our own garden that got all over DS bare foot and hands and then trampled into the carpet and wiped all over his shirt. So I can't see the fuss about dog poo in a front garden that is actually picked up.

justilou1 · 20/01/2021 06:25

Aaaand once again a mumsnet thread about a woman roaming onto private property to repeatedly relieve her dog’s bowels has turned into a debate on whether cats should be free to roam or not.....

PopcornAndWine · 20/01/2021 09:22

@sadeyes21 How can a dog look intimidating? Extremely easily!

A cat doesnt generally have a lead - ergo is in control of itself (however annoying that may be to others)

A dog, however, is on a lead - ergo the owner is in control

they will never guess my favourite word

IamaBluebird · 20/01/2021 11:06

I now see a cat called Ergo, walking his dog on a lead. Entertaining thread Wink

BloggersBlog · 20/01/2021 11:48

Yes, my cat Ergo is very clever and in full control of his dog Honorlead

This sounds like a cartoon begging to be made 😂

And if Honourlead is anything like my Ddog, when Ergo needs a shit, Honourlead can eat it. One hand washes the other...
sadeyes21 · 20/01/2021 13:02

I can honestly say that I have never trodden in cat shit when out for a walk in the woods or park. Dog shit on the other hand is a different story 😬

As for the garden I kind of accept that animals don't understand property boundaries and as cats are often free roaming in this country it's just a case of put up and shut up. It's pretty arrogant of us, as a species, to expect animals to keep outside of our 'outside space'. Some people think it's fair game to harm them because of it, in my opinion these are exactly the sort of people who don't belong in a civilised society.

Oh. My. Goodness... MN needs a HUGE vomit emoticon Shock

I know, but still doesn't change the fact that cat crap is everywhere and we have to put up with it, and the same people who have cats are incensed about a dog crap that touches a garden for a few seconds before it gets picked up. (Not to say the OP or everyone else incensed about it in this thread has cats, but I bet some do).

Nope, just don't complain about one when the other is fine by you.
Lady089 · 20/01/2021 16:39

@sadeyes21 - Perfectly said 👍🏻

Lady089 · 20/01/2021 16:44

@Staffy1 - The two aren’t comparable, so stop trying to look for reasons.
Also many cat owners have indoor cats and litter trays, so your point isn’t the case in many situations.

lunalulu · 21/01/2021 07:44

Come on. Huge dog poop is way worse than more discreet and tiny and usually in the soil cat poop.

lunalulu · 21/01/2021 07:45

And cats try to cover it up.

AmoElCafe · 21/01/2021 08:29

@lunalulu

And cats try to cover it up.
The cat who curls one out right in the middle of my front lawn every single morning doesn’t attempt to hide it. And it fucking stinks.
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 21/01/2021 12:36

Can we get a memo out to the cats about this?
sadeyes21 · 21/01/2021 13:19

Woke up this morning to 6 inches of snow and you would never guess what.... there are bloody paw prints in my front garden!!! 🤬 I am sure it's from a dog that has had the audacity to walk through my private open plan front garden. I am absolutely livid. I am going to get CCTV to catch the disgusting people and keep watch all day incase they have the cheek to return. Watch this space.

MyMonsteraisDeliciosa · 21/01/2021 14:40

This thread has it all, I'm so glad I found it.

A CF, a mystery, CCTV evidence, a mumsnetter on a mission, a village Facebook group in uproar, a highly satisfying gotcha confrontation, a couple of very dogged (pun absolutely intended) posters determined to argue tediously on and on and on and on, a couple of Mumsnet HQ warnings, many many deleted posts. MN gold!

The absolute best bit was Ergo and Honourlead though, it takes a lot to raise a genuine chuckle from me these days but that definitely did.

9/10 OP, excellent mumsnetting Grin

I'm obviously also glad your poo problem got resolved along the way, that would make me so outraged too fwiw

BloggersBlog · 22/01/2021 08:29

Ergo is taking a bow thank you @MymonsteraisDeliciosa, Honorlead would but is too busy chasing his own tail

Bumblebee1980a · 01/02/2021 10:22

Say something. I wouldn't like it either. I have a dog and I wouldn't let him poo in someone's garden.

It's not what you say it's how you say it.

AdobeWanKenobi · 01/02/2021 13:23

Outstanding idea! Don’t know why it wasn’t thought of a week ago....
