Dog poo-ing on our garden every morning and evening. AIBU to say something?

We live in a quiet area with just three houses in a sort of cul de sac. We are part of a small estate but at the bottom of it. Nobody comes down here unless they live here or are delivering something really.

However there is a cut through at the top and every morning and evening for the past week, a woman has started appearing from this cut through and walking past our house with her large dog. And every morning and evening, this dog is doing a poo on my front garden.

It cocks it's leg on my bushes and had a wee and then settles down for a poo. And yes - she does stand there watching and picks it up

The reason I know? We have security cameras. The reason I've not said anything to her yet? I have annoyingly either been asleep/ in the shower/ in the garage/ out shopping. Nearly managed it this morning but by the time I'd opened my front door, she was turning the corner and I wasn't about to screech!

So ... onto my AIBU. My DH thinks that as she's picking it up then meh, not a massive deal. I think differently - I don't want my front lawn used as a dog toilet and I think it's bad manners to allow your dog to do this. Once I sort of get - but this is now becoming a pattern.

AIBU to literally stake out my camera notifications today and ensure I can get to my front door and ask her to stop immediately? Or just ignore it?

I think OP has done a good thing to post this on Mumsnet, raising awareness of problem dog owners and how to deal with them!

For someone so not obsessed, you don't half go on Smile

By putting up passive aggressive signs, and shaming them on local FB groups and instigating a pile on? When she could have just waited to have a polite word. That's not the appropriate or compassionate way to deal with anyone. I agree that the OP's behaviour seems rather obsessive. All over dog shit that is getting picked up anyway. The mind boggles..,

@billy1966
I think taking a picture on your phone is very effective if you see someone allowing a dog to shit in a public space.

So now dogs can't shit in public spaces? Where can they shit? This is madness.

You bloody would agree!!

Haha I mean you've not come across at ALL obsessive...

FrenchBoule · 19/01/2021 13:32

My mind boggles at anybody thinking that’s it’s ok to let their dog shit in somebody elses garden.
It doesn’t matter that the owner picks it up.

You just don’t go to anybody’s property if you have no business to be there.

Talking about entitled dog owners this is a perfect example.

Yohoheaveho · 19/01/2021 13:32

If you don't think letting a dog go into someones private property and take a shit is a problem then you are seriously lacking in boundaries!

DrunkBetch · 19/01/2021 13:34

I have a dog and also walk through an estate with open front gardens with the grass right next to the pavement. My dog enjoys walking across the grass and sniffing the plants but if I think for a second she will poo I bring her back to the pavement so she will do it there and not in someone's garden. My husband thinks I'm being silly as we always clean up but I would hate it if it was my garden.

Our local council circles and paints warning messages around offending fouling on pavements. They encourage reporting. Taking a photo on your phone is in line with this and a lot less aggressive than the council's threat of fines and a visit from the dog warden.

LST · 19/01/2021 13:39

@billy1966 any public space?

mrs12345 · 19/01/2021 13:42

There's a small sign you can buy on Amazon ( it's about £7) that's says 'please be considerate ' with a pic of dog on it and cross though a poo ! It's quite discrete but gets the message across . We had the same problem on front garden with the same dog and although it was picked up I found it rude using our garden as a dogs toilet ( I have 2 dogs and would never allow them to do this )

Yes, but that is for people who don't clean up after their dogs. I think my council and dog warden would laugh at you for complaining about poop that was being picked up.

@Yohoheaveho - You think the OP has done a good thing by raising awareness of problem dog owners, when the vast majority wouldn’t even do this. I don’t think making posters, creating Facebook groups, shouting and obsessing over said culprit by continuously going outside when a person walks past, is the right way to go about things.
Yes deal with the problem but deal with it as any normal adult would, don’t obsess over it, no wonder her husband shut himself away in the sitting room with his head phones on Hmm

sadeyes21 · 19/01/2021 14:01

@LucyLime
I think you are very unkind. Good bye.

This has happened on our path a few times which is annoying but I don't really take issue with it unless they don't clear it up.
There's an industrial estate up the road and they have a dog there. Whenever it gets loose it shits on our path but since they always clear it up I don't mind too much.
YWBR if she wasn't clearing up but she is so YABU.
