Dog poo-ing on our garden every morning and evening. AIBU to say something?

We live in a quiet area with just three houses in a sort of cul de sac. We are part of a small estate but at the bottom of it. Nobody comes down here unless they live here or are delivering something really.

However there is a cut through at the top and every morning and evening for the past week, a woman has started appearing from this cut through and walking past our house with her large dog. And every morning and evening, this dog is doing a poo on my front garden.

It cocks it's leg on my bushes and had a wee and then settles down for a poo. And yes - she does stand there watching and picks it up

The reason I know? We have security cameras. The reason I've not said anything to her yet? I have annoyingly either been asleep/ in the shower/ in the garage/ out shopping. Nearly managed it this morning but by the time I'd opened my front door, she was turning the corner and I wasn't about to screech!

So ... onto my AIBU. My DH thinks that as she's picking it up then meh, not a massive deal. I think differently - I don't want my front lawn used as a dog toilet and I think it's bad manners to allow your dog to do this. Once I sort of get - but this is now becoming a pattern.

AIBU to literally stake out my camera notifications today and ensure I can get to my front door and ask her to stop immediately? Or just ignore it?

@LucyLime - Oh stop playing the victim! You called us a clown, idiot, dense, hard of hearing and various other words. So yes you were verbally abusive!!

Lady089 · 19/01/2021 21:50

@Tiktaktoe - Maybe Wink

Lady089 · 19/01/2021 21:56

@LucyLime - No agenda, putting my opinion across, you clearly dislike anyone who dares to disagree with you.
Your husband even said it wasn’t a big deal and you said anyone that has a problem with it is disgusting Hmm

LucyLime · 19/01/2021 21:58

Not hearing. I didn't say you were hard of hearing. I wouldn't know about your ears. I said you were hard of reading.

Again, it's not abusive and not a personal attack.

OP posts:
LucyLime · 19/01/2021 22:02

But anyone who doesn't mind a dog repeatedly shitting on their personal property IS disgusting aren't they? What else could they be? But if you don't mind that sort of thing then who am I to argue? You're not my neighbour thankfully

Anyway - I seriously can't argue the toss all night with you so from now on you'll be shouting into an echo chamber as far as responses from me go.

@LucyLime - You was verbally abusive and personal in your comments, you can’t deny it because the posts have been removed.

Again, I never said I disagreed with you regarding the dog shit, I said I didn’t agree with the way you went about it.
You said your husband didn’t have an issue with it, so maybe he’s the person you should be talking to.

I am creased at the amount of deleted posts on this thread.

😂😂

I have a dog and also walk through an estate with open front gardens with the grass right next to the pavement. My dog enjoys walking across the grass and sniffing the plants

What the hell! It's private property - not open space for dog walkers. What's the matter with your thinking? Can I pop in your house if your door is unlocked and sniff out your stuff with my kids?

Unbelievable.
Your dog, your dog shit and pee, your problem to sort out. Most of us with open plan gardens don't want to donate our gardens to you and your dog.to walk on.

BettyAndVeronica · 19/01/2021 22:30

OP this would really annoy me.
A large dog kept shitting directly outside my gate. Small front garden as it was a busy London street. So could even smell it from the front door.
Not picked up so an enormous poo there I would have to hop over when coming out my gate (plus buggy & toddler).
Never dared speak to the man who owns it, he looks scary. But a colleague told me to put black pepper down by the gate and if that doesn't work, vanish carpet cleaner! It did the trick and put the dogs off for ages.
If it's one particular spot, spray a little.
@AmoElCafe - Cats are free to roam, dogs are not and don’t be ridiculous it’s not an excuse, you can’t follow a cat around all day trying to clean up after them, which is what you’re suggesting.
Should have thought of that before you got the cat then. God knows I'm tempted to buy an elephant and see how the dog/cat lovers feel about that parked on their lawn. I can then say "oh but how can I stop an elephant going where it wants?"

I imagine they'd be really upset as they tend to make sure all the shit is far away from their home.

StoneofDestiny · 19/01/2021 22:42

OP - you did the right thing and got the right outcome. I'm incredulous that anybody thinks their dog shit is welcome anywhere near their house or on their property - for any length of time.

Most of us buy our homes for our family and invited guests. Not for random pet owners to shit over.

I'd certainly go ape shit if anybody thought my open plan garden was something for them to exercise their pet on, let alone to allow their pets to shit or pee on!

Would I publish their pic on a community Facebook page? - too right. Guarantee if they were that entitled with their pet, their skin would be rhino thick and not much else would get through to them.

I think the majority are clearly in your side.

Miranda15110 · 19/01/2021 22:42

I have dogs and wouldn't dream of letting them wander into someone else's garden. Very rude!

Lady089 · 19/01/2021 22:44

@LastTrainEast - Cats are free to roam so will toilet where they please, much the same as any other wild animal, foxes, birds, hedgehogs etc.
Where do you suggest all these animals should poo?
I have pigeon poo in my garden, maybe I should tell them to poo elsewhere.
Comparing an elephant to a cat is bizarre.

Small village. On the way to the shop which is next to school building there were 4 dog’s turds on the pavement

School is closed for now but nursery kids (after changing their shoes) sit down on the floor for circle time on the floor.
Child might not notice they stepped in it then wipe their hand on clothes, touch the face.

All because some lazy, selfish and arrogant dog owner didn’t bother to pick up after their pet.

Some people don’t want to pick it up.

Last week one evening watched the guy trying to drag his dog away leaving the poo on the pavement. When he realised he was being watched he started fumbling in his pockets. He’s had the bags with him, he was just thinking that because it’s dark nobody’s going to see him leaving it.

As for cleaning dog poo- don’t get me started. Not only children shoes but buggy, child and carpet in the hall.

All because some lazy, selfish idiot decided not to pick up poo from the pavement.

I used to have a dog. I’m not a dog hater but absolutely despise those not cleaning after their dog.

percheron67 · 19/01/2021 22:49

ZoeTurtle - If those words are your interpretation I hope you don't have children!!

Totally agree. I have always liked dogs although would never choose to own one. But the lazy, selfish arseholes who don't pick up their shit are making me increasingly intolerant of them. And although all dog owners I know claim to be outraged by it, the amount of shit around the place that ends up on my buggy wheels or daughters ball suggests a good portion of them are either liars or hypocrites.

Anyway, good result OP Smile

Wild animals are not domestic pets. They are free to roam and many of us encourage birds, hedgehogs etc.
I've never encouraged someone else's domestic pets onto my land - their pets are their pets, their responsibility and if they want food, exercise space or shutting and peeing areas then it's up to the owners to sort that out for them - and not invade other people's private spaces to get it.
My kids wouldn't be allowed to run around your garden, pee up your wall or shit on your lawn or yell and disturb your peace.

StoneofDestiny · 19/01/2021 23:01

I don't have a domestic pet, but the point is well made

One of the grossest situations a friend was in was when she rolled her self propelled wheelchair over dog shit on the pavement - you can imagine the situation that reduced her to tears.
I often think of poorly sighted or blind people who cannot dodge the dogs shit like sited people.

I wish there was serious fines imposed for offences - not just signs on notices - real enforcement where 'ignorance' is no excuse. So many dog owners in parks studying their phones while dogs shit behind them.
Of course they know what's going on - just choose to ignore it.

I know, when I scrape it off the buggy wheels for the thousandth time I always think of how much worse it would be for wheelchair users.

Agree there need to be harsher penalties.

@LucyLime You have been very abusive. Why do you think Mumsnet HQ keep removing your posts?

You think I am disgusting for not caring if a dog shits in my garden bit of grass outside my house (providing the owner picks it up). Why can't you just accept that not everyone thinks the same way as you without becoming nasty? Just accepting that some people feel differently about it to you doesn't mean you are wrong.

Yohoheaveho · 19/01/2021 23:55

They know what's going on- just choose to ignore it
Or in the case of a certain category of offenders they know that no one is going to challenge them because both they and the dog look intimidating- nasty and brutish (although probably not short)

How can a dog look intimidating?
