Dog poo-ing on our garden every morning and evening. AIBU to say something?

We live in a quiet area with just three houses in a sort of cul de sac. We are part of a small estate but at the bottom of it. Nobody comes down here unless they live here or are delivering something really.

However there is a cut through at the top and every morning and evening for the past week, a woman has started appearing from this cut through and walking past our house with her large dog. And every morning and evening, this dog is doing a poo on my front garden.

It cocks it's leg on my bushes and had a wee and then settles down for a poo. And yes - she does stand there watching and picks it up

The reason I know? We have security cameras. The reason I've not said anything to her yet? I have annoyingly either been asleep/ in the shower/ in the garage/ out shopping. Nearly managed it this morning but by the time I'd opened my front door, she was turning the corner and I wasn't about to screech!

So ... onto my AIBU. My DH thinks that as she's picking it up then meh, not a massive deal. I think differently - I don't want my front lawn used as a dog toilet and I think it's bad manners to allow your dog to do this. Once I sort of get - but this is now becoming a pattern.

AIBU to literally stake out my camera notifications today and ensure I can get to my front door and ask her to stop immediately? Or just ignore it?

YANBU. That's poor behaviour on the part of the dog owner.

I know you've said you really don't want to put any sort of fence or border up - and no, you shouldn't have to; people should just have basic manners - but if you manage to say something to the woman and she lets her dog continue to poo in your garden, this may be your only option.

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 18/01/2021 18:47

That’s grim. My dog isn’t allowed to go in other peoples garden. There’s a bit of grass in front of 2 houses that I don’t think is owned by the houses but keep him off them too just in case!

I’d set up a remote control sprinkler and get the bitch every time the dog stopped. Point it more at the street than the dog tho Grin

sadeyes21 · 18/01/2021 18:51

I don't let my dog chase squirrels or deer because it causes fear and alarm to other animals - this is something other dog owners so that really angers me! I wouldn't of thought twice about her pooping on some grass outside someone's house though unless she was crossing a clearly defined boundary like a fence or bush. I can see from reading the posts that it really annoys some people so I will be more considerate about this is future. I still wouldn't have a damn of someone's dog pooped in my front garden. It's just abit of grass outside my house. Mind you, you are lucky round here if anyone bothers to pick it up at all! I doubt this women is even aware that she was doing anything wrong, a quiet word should have settled it as opposed to starting some sort of FB witch hunt.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 18/01/2021 18:53

We had someone like this on our estate too. She lived elsewhere in the village and seemed to think that because our estate used to be scrubland fields, she could act as if it still were. Several dog walkers who live on the estate took her to task about it and she's behaved ever since.

CottonSock · 18/01/2021 19:00

Blimey, the plot thickens. And no yanbu. Our Goldie used to destroy the grass with her wee.

LucyLime · 18/01/2021 19:05

@sadeyes21 if you don't mind, I'll disregard your opinion as you're one of the very few on this thread who doesn't see a problem with their dogs using other peoples property as a toilet. Can you not see how disgusting your behaviour is? Just because you don't see an issue with a dog shitting all over your garden, doesn't mean that others want that happening to them

And as for a witch-hunt on Facebook - have you bothered to read the thread properly before commenting?

dust your lawn with chilli powder. dogs hate the smell.

Technonan · 18/01/2021 19:08

I wouldn't let my dog poo in someone's garden, even though I would pick it up. I try not to let mine pee on gateposts because some people don't like it. I'd have a quiet word - it probably hasn't crossed her mind that you'd be unhappy (though it should). Even if she cleans up after the dog, there's an outside chance that it might leave toxocariasis on the ground.

I've gone for polite yet firm I hope

I think it’s awful she’s allowing her dog to do that and I’d definitely do anything I could to stop it. Can’t believe the cheek of some dog owners. I have a dog by the way.

ktp100 · 18/01/2021 19:19

This would piss me right off.

No dog owner should be allowing their dogs to shit on other people's lawns! It doesn't matter that she picks it up, it's common sense to not let a walking dog go on to other people's property, particularly to shit and especially if it's becoming habitual!!

Who wants a random dog shitting on their property twice a day?!!

Cheeky cow.

MotherofTerriers · 18/01/2021 19:23

If she doesn't stop I'd go for the motion detector sprinkler

MaLarkinn · 18/01/2021 19:24

we have a border of stones around our house and people often let their dogs shit on them. if i see them i’ll walk outside and if they don’t pick up their dogshit i will ask them if they’ve forgotten something. after christmas i used the santa please stop here sign with a notice stuck on it saying please pick up your dogshit and it has helped!

i have also scooped up dogshit and left it at the owners door. let them step in it and walk it all over their own house or worse still jump in the car and have to scrape it off the pedals. those grooves in the pedals are a nightmare to get shit out of.

GlamGiraffe · 18/01/2021 19:26

I am waiting for the update where you catch her!
Some people just do not care. Total disgrace.

adriennewillfly · 18/01/2021 19:27

Dog whistle when you see the dog there? Sprinklers? Or one of those ultrasound devices?

ekidmxcl · 18/01/2021 19:31

Laminated sign on a little wooden stake: please do not allow your dog to use my private garden as a toilet, Thank you

LucyLime · 18/01/2021 19:31

See above (or is it below?) for my laminated sign

@LucyLime

Your garden it’s your land.
No poop!
I would be out there if she appears same time every day. She will soon stop.

PopcornAndWine · 18/01/2021 19:31

After having to scrape dog shit off my buggy wheels yet again this afternoon, and having to cut two recent outings with toddler short because her ball rolled through shit, I'm increasingly becoming of the view we need dog-free public spaces. It's disgusting and I'm sick of it.

Obviously YANBU OP and the couple of posters who can't seem to see anything wrong with this woman's behaviour - you are also disgusting.

Justa47 · 18/01/2021 19:32

@LucyLime

Follow her home. Borrow a dog and repay the compliment !

CaraDuneRedux · 18/01/2021 19:34

You could do what my mother did when someone repeatedly let their dog crap in the middle of our entrance - paint in foot high letters in white paint on a black gate "Dog owners: train your dogs! This is disgusting." Complete with arrow pointing to pile of turd.

I was 14, we lived a couple of hundred yards from the school gates and I wanted to curl up and die from embarrassment. 40 years on I am totally "team Mum!"

CheetasOnFajitas · 18/01/2021 19:35

Personally I would have retained the moral high ground by omitting the final sentence “this estate is not your dog’s toilet” as that is obvious from the previous requests and comes across as a bit OTT aggressive.
I bet she’s read this thread and that’s why she has not turned up again, in which case, job done!

1Morewineplease · 18/01/2021 19:37

Pop out when you next catch her and say "Do you mind?"

MaggieFS · 18/01/2021 19:40

It's a great sign, but I'm a tad disappointed you didn't wait for a face to face chat, I'd love to know how she'd explain herself!

Covidcovid · 18/01/2021 19:49

I love the sign.
