Wibu to get a takeaway?

I'm pretty low on money at the moment and as such I'm trying to keep all spending to an absolute minimum. I've written out a budget and am trying my very best to stick to it.

But. I've made a mistake! Last time I did a big food shop I pre prepped and batch cooked everything so I have about 3 weeks worth of meals in the freezer ready to go. Even prepped all my veggies so they would last longer in the freezer. Unfortunately though I forgot to leave anything out for dinner tonight so I have nothing out except 2 pieces of bread, some cuppa soups and some cheap instant noodles 😭

Wibu to cut into my food budget and get a takeaway for tonight? I can stretch it to 2 meals to make it better value for money 😁

The idea of a super noodle sandwich makes me feel a bit sick 🤢 No offence to anyone who likes them but I've never had one for a reason 😂

@Potatoespuds I made a big lot of mince & did a shepherds pie, spag bol and chilli. Got I think 6/7 portions of each. Also got 2 packs of chicken thighs (cheaper than breasts and you get more of them!) and made a big tikka masala, katsu curry and chicken soup. I've also got some stir fry beef, meatballs & a bacon & lentil soup made up. Plus a shit load of veg all peeled, chopped & frozen ready to use. I even have some bread & milk in there. Freezer is chocka!

You don’t have to justify it. If you can easily take it out of next week’s/month‘s budget then go for it!

And enjoy.

You would only BU if you didn’t tell us what you get! Wink

Getting a takeaway seems the opposite of sticking to it.

dottiedaisee · 16/01/2021 18:42

Go to your local shop and get a tin of beans and small piece of cheese...cheesy beans on toast is the best comfort food and is cheap!!

Chocolateandamaretto · 16/01/2021 18:43

If I want a cheap takeaway I get a chippy - our family of 5 can eat for about £15. For 1 person chips and a sausage would only be a few quid.

MrsGrindah · 16/01/2021 18:44

Depends whether you see a takeaway as nice enough to justify the splurge. Personally I think takeaways are massively overrated and would far more enjoy the soup with the bread toasted and buttered.

Changethetoner · 16/01/2021 18:45

you can defrost bread in the toaster - and open a tin of beans - tadah- beans on toast.

It seems a shame to blow the savings on one meal, by getting a takeaway.

Hm2020 · 16/01/2021 18:49

Do it for me I’d kill for a takeaway but way to low on cash

thesebootsaremadeforwalkin · 16/01/2021 18:49

@Changethetoner I don't have any beans in though, used them in the chilli 😂

Everyone suggesting beans like it’s the answer to all of life’s problems.

They’re utterly vile 🤮🤮🤮

I’d rather starve! So they’re not a magic solution for everyone...

thesebootsaremadeforwalkin · 16/01/2021 18:53

@OhCaptain I don't mind beans but I tend to save my bread for breakfast meals rather than dinners.

I appreciate the suggestions but I literally cannot eat jacket potatoes, they make me gag 😞 It is a real shame as they are a cheap meal but I just can't do it!

I would just eat the super noodles and some bread.

We have had beans on toast this week as a meal, I did contemplate a take away but couldn’t afford it.

If you can afford it then that’s fine, if not just have noodles.

motherofawhirlwind · 16/01/2021 18:55

I'd have ordered and eaten my takeaway by now, but you could defrost a soup in a pan. Just do it on low.

Artesia · 16/01/2021 18:56

You can v quickly defrost curry, Bolognese, chilli etc in a pan over a very low heat. As it starts to defrost, break it into smaller pieces, and it doesn’t take long at all.

PolloDePrimavera · 16/01/2021 18:58

Egg and chips?!

Ninkanink · 16/01/2021 18:59

Have your takeaway! Saving is good but a little treat here and there when you really need it is good too!

peboh · 16/01/2021 19:01

Noodles, beans and cheese is my go to when I either can't be bothered/forget to get something out 😅

Halloweiner · 16/01/2021 19:12

Get the takeaway it's 2021, we all need a pick me up here and there

S111n20 · 16/01/2021 19:29

Go for it.

Ninkanink · 16/01/2021 19:33

I fancy a pizza now!

Ratsindahouse · 16/01/2021 19:43

@LH1987

Do it! Kebab is fairly cheap and does for about three meals.
How does one kebab last 3 meals? How big are the kebabs where you live?
