I know I’m not but I need to rant.

DP spits all the time especially when ever we are walking anywhere ie walking the dog. I complain about it all the time and he says he can’t help it but I have never once considered I needed to spit let alone in public.

I just think it’s awful manners, he’ll do it with other people around and I’m so embarrassed about it.

WIBU to push him in the lake next time he does it while we’re walking the dog?

Absolute deal breaker. Gross, rude, dangerous (there's a reason it's illegal, TB/disease spreading), and horribly entitled.

I can't imagine any decent person thinking spitting (except in seriously extenuating circumstances) is okay.

Unless he has a medical condition that means he absolutely cannot stop, he is repellent and I would judge you too for staying with someone so disgusting.

I think men who do this are repulsive. It's so antisocial. I remember seeing a man do it while I was in my first trimester once and having the most insane nausea and I actually had to rush home to be sick. I would 100% break up with a man who did this, I'd be too humiliated to be seen in public with him.

YANBU, it's gross. Assuming he has no particular learning difficulties or health issues, this is a bad habit than can be broken, with effort. Show him this thread.

It is entirely habit, there is absolutely no requirement to spit. I noticed at school that certain teenage boys developed it as a habit and it seemed to be weirdly linked to male status in school. I can only assume your partner started something similar.

It is absolutely vile and I could not tolerate that. And currently, it’s dangerous.

Disgusting, I've never understood the need for it. Especially when its combine with hoink!

It's a little different if something has got stuck in his mouth - like those little midges. But its always obvious who's a routine "spitter"" and someone who has unexpectedly found a visitor of the bug or hair variety.
