AIBU to get a Covid test once a week

New dp has an underlying health condition to do with his breathing, not classed as shielding but could be very bad if he got covid.

At first we were extremely careful only meeting outdoors etc but he was completely on his own over Christmas due to family living in London. He really wanted to see me indoors so after my ds went off to his dads, I got a covid test, it came back negative the next day so I went and saw dp and stayed over.

Did the same thing last week, ds goes to his dads on a Thursday so I got tested then and saw dp after result came back on Saturday. Dp now wants me to start doing this every week so we can see each other as he is really struggling atm. Me taking the tests isn't his idea - he isn't bothered either way, but I was refusing to see him indoors early on because if I passed it to him and he became seriously ill/died I would never forgive myself. so this is the only way I personally am willing to see him.

AIBU to keep doing this? Will I flag up anywhere if I continue to get tested every week? I'm worried the test centre might challenge me and I don't want to get in trouble. I know tests are only supposed to be for people with symptoms but I think our circumstances are quite unique. I am also actually classed as a key worker but I WFH.
There is the option when booking a test to state whether you are a key worker but I normally tick "no" in case they notify my work I keep getting these tests. So I just claim to have symptoms instead and am now worried its logging the fact that I apparently have symptoms every week...

So my question is AIBU to book another test today, I am currently in two minds about whether or not to do it as scared of repercussions.

Community testing is happening in some places. You can get a lateral flow test without having to go to work or have symptoms. It's actually being encouraged

Stating you have symptoms when you don't though is rubbish, immoral and will be screwing up the testing analysis.

SlB09 · 14/01/2021 19:03

Incredibly unreasonable and a waste if testing facilities. Tests sent 100% so there's still risk anyway. If you want weekly tests for your own benefit pay for them.

Meowchickameowmeow · 14/01/2021 19:14

Please come back OP and tell us exactly what about your circumstances is 'unique'. You're a selfish madam and you know it.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 14/01/2021 19:18

Bang out of order. Nothing unique about your circumstances. If you are worried about passing something on be more careful in your day to day life. Perhaps I should get tested so I can see my vulnerable family member before he dies?

MaudHatter · 14/01/2021 19:24

Lucille - don’t be a dick . She’s only just met him . Of course he’s a boyfriend.

Dee1975 · 14/01/2021 19:31

A few things I’ve thought whilst reading

  1. if you claim you have symptoms, you have to SI between the time you claim you have symptoms to when you get a neg result. That could be days. I assume you are wfh and not going to shops?Because if you were caught out side when you claim you symptoms yesterday you would get a fine.
  2. if you test negative today, that doesn’t mean you will tomorrow (even if you’ve not been anywhere). So doesn’t reduce risk completely
  3. it’s pretty selfish to take a test every week to see your DP. Every test costs the tax payer
  4. we are in this mess because people keep trying to find loopholes in the symptom / push the boundaries / doing their own risk assessments.

I’m sorry DP mental health is suffering. Can you meet outside 1 on 1?

Overtherainbow12 · 14/01/2021 19:54

YABVVU, you're just a total arsehole tbh
It costs over £350 for each NHS test, your excuses and reasons are a joke. Hope you do get caught and they fine you for wasting time and resources.

dotty12345 · 14/01/2021 20:10

I'd love to see my 2 children and grandchildren and I've known them a lot longer than 5 months! Can't believe the selfishness of some

LadyCatStark · 14/01/2021 20:22

If you were paying privately then fill your boots but you’re not, you’re wasting resources and time. You’ve only been together a short time anyway, it’s hardly a long term relationship and certainly not exceptional circumstances.

lifestooshort123 · 15/01/2021 07:17

I think she's done a runner - I can't imagine why!

BigBadVoodooHat · 15/01/2021 07:21

I know tests are only supposed to be for people with symptoms but I think our circumstances are quite unique.

Either you don’t understand the meaning of the word ‘unique’, or you’re on the wind-up Hmm

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 15/01/2021 07:35

am assuming given how quickly you are getting results that these are lateral flow tests, which in my area are for people without symptoms
The fact that she says she ticks the option for symptoms on the website suggests it is the other test for people with symptoms
Lateral flow tests are the community testing which you just turn up at rather than booking.

Using lateral flow/community testing in your area - fine
Lying about symptoms to use a test you don't need- not fine.
The cases are rising and so more people need those tests and we.dont want the delays in test results seen in September

DarceyDashwood · 15/01/2021 07:41

YABVU

Your circumstances are not “unique”. We would all love to be able to see our loved ones indoors once a week Confused you are abusing the testing scheme. Pay for private lateral flow tests but don’t lie to get a weekly test. I’m sure it will be flagged on some system somewhere.

Is there a reason you can’t form a support bubble?

AnyTimeSoon · 15/01/2021 07:41

Classic example of someone using 'mental health issues' as an excuse for selfish, shitty behaviour.

Imapotato · 15/01/2021 07:49

Everyone would like to be able to see their friends and family indoors. You’re not special because you want to sleepover at your new boyfriends.

YABU for lying and taking up resources that others need. Also it’s lockdown, so unless you’re going to move in together you shouldn’t be seeing each other indoors, test or no test. Confused

TeaPot40 · 15/01/2021 07:55

YABVU also you could test positive and then go on to develop symptoms and be positive. As I did and I am tested weekly for work. Tested negative and then a day later became unwell and then tested positive

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 15/01/2021 08:00

depends where you live, and what the restrictions are.
Even Liverpool which had a huge open testing regime is now restricting symptom free tests to frontline workers.
being a key worker but WFH isn't exactly "frontline".

I had a test yesterday - hopefully just a cold, but sore throat and runny nose has caused lack of taste and smell.
I possibly had other symptoms a week or so ago, which I know there is ongoing research into -but couldn't get a test then.

None of the lists I read included "I want to know if it's OK to shag my boyfriend" as a valid reason to justify a test.

And of course they can link tests; you have to give date of birth, address, email, NHS number.... unless you are lying about your identity, which makes it an even greater waste of resources.
however it is unlikely that they'd inform your employer about the frequency of your tests; particularly if you are wfh and not physically in contact with colleagues.

luckylavender · 15/01/2021 08:01

Hideously selfish

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 15/01/2021 08:02

*couldn't get a test then
because not one of the three recognised symptoms

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 15/01/2021 08:10

private test £189

Maybe instead of a "fit to fly" certificate you could ask for a fit to fuck one

Justreadingtheforum3 · 15/01/2021 08:14

You can have a Lateral flow test each week. You actually cant have one if you have symptoms.

Kazziek · 15/01/2021 08:15

My local council are recommending lateral flow tests once a week, there is plenty of availability for them too. Does OP mean she is having full PCR test or LFT? If LFT, then absolutely you should have one each week.

Erictheavocado · 15/01/2021 08:21

Very, very selfish. I'm afraid I don't think your situation is unique at all. If tou want to bubble, and are allowed, then it's up to the pair of you to do what you can to reduce potential for infection, not to use valuable resources that could mean somebody else waits longer for their result. FWIW, my elderly DM has been alone since last March because I work in a school and my sister, her dh and one of their adult children all work in jobs which mean they are unable to socially distance and which have a steady stream of cases. We have had to , reluctantly, stay away from our DM in order to minimise the chance of passing it to her. Hopefully, the vaccine will mean we can see her in the near(ish) future. These are the choices that many people are having to make at the moment. You are not unique. You are selfish.

FilthyforFirth · 15/01/2021 08:22

I refuse to believe anyone is this selfish or stupid to be honest. In case you arent s weird covid troll, yes of course YABU to even consider this.

Everyone is making sacricices during this pandemic. Count yourself lucky if yours is simply not being able to shag your boyfriend of only 5 months...

Lochroy · 15/01/2021 08:24

Plenty of areas (most?) are NOT offering tests for the asymptomatic. The OP has brazenly admitted she is lying to get test and is therefore abusing public resources which is morally repugnant.
