AIBU to get a Covid test once a week

New dp has an underlying health condition to do with his breathing, not classed as shielding but could be very bad if he got covid.

At first we were extremely careful only meeting outdoors etc but he was completely on his own over Christmas due to family living in London. He really wanted to see me indoors so after my ds went off to his dads, I got a covid test, it came back negative the next day so I went and saw dp and stayed over.

Did the same thing last week, ds goes to his dads on a Thursday so I got tested then and saw dp after result came back on Saturday. Dp now wants me to start doing this every week so we can see each other as he is really struggling atm. Me taking the tests isn't his idea - he isn't bothered either way, but I was refusing to see him indoors early on because if I passed it to him and he became seriously ill/died I would never forgive myself. so this is the only way I personally am willing to see him.

AIBU to keep doing this? Will I flag up anywhere if I continue to get tested every week? I'm worried the test centre might challenge me and I don't want to get in trouble. I know tests are only supposed to be for people with symptoms but I think our circumstances are quite unique. I am also actually classed as a key worker but I WFH.
There is the option when booking a test to state whether you are a key worker but I normally tick "no" in case they notify my work I keep getting these tests. So I just claim to have symptoms instead and am now worried its logging the fact that I apparently have symptoms every week...

So my question is AIBU to book another test today, I am currently in two minds about whether or not to do it as scared of repercussions.

I agree with the majority of PPs that YABU.

ZebraSpotts · 14/01/2021 16:49

Partner? Nope boyfriend of 5 months.

You could be incubating the virus and get a negative test, then pass it on and kill him off anyways. So either see him and accept the risk (minimal if you're both limiting contact as much as possible) or stay home.

oo0Tinkerbell0oo · 14/01/2021 16:49

I'm sorry but your situation is not 'unique' and you are being utterly selfish. I can't spend time with my partner because of lockdown as is the situation with people up and down the country but to lie to get a test weekly is just taking the piss.

An0n0n0n · 14/01/2021 17:00

Yabu and you need to address your anxiety

queenofSI · 14/01/2021 17:03

surely you’re joking?! Your circumstances aren’t remotely unique. Pay for a private test. You’re taking the absolute piss

GlobeUs · 14/01/2021 17:08

I am assuming given how quickly you are getting results that these are lateral flow tests, which in my area are for people without symptoms.

I have been told I can get one every day if I would like - so if it's lateral flow, and you are walking in without symptoms you are not being unreasonable to have the test

YABU for not knowing the incubation periods of covid though.

WilsonMilson · 14/01/2021 17:09

Fuck sake op, get a grip. Also playing the ‘mental health issues’ card is low.

Either your boyfriend accepts the risk so you can continue to bubble, or you pay for private tests. Stop abusing the system.

GlobeUs · 14/01/2021 17:10

Oh, I missed So I just claim to have symptoms instead and am now worried its logging the fact that I apparently have symptoms every week...

Yes, YABU, and clearly by above post does not apply.

I am getting tested every couple of days but it is part of community testing and it was offered to me, plus it's lateral flow testing...

unicornparty · 14/01/2021 17:13

Wow op. You're being so unreasonable.

chuckitallin · 14/01/2021 17:17

Wow, you really are selfish @eagle27. All about you. Your only dilemma seems to be that you might be caught out! Just get a private test, self isolate or see your boyfriend outdoors if you are both worried.

superram · 14/01/2021 17:22

2 too many times. Either take the risk (a negative test doesn’t mean you aren’t carrying covid anyway) or wait to see him. Don’t be a cunt.

pooopypants · 14/01/2021 17:24

You've been together barely 5 months and his MH is your problem, how exactly?

You want the taxpayer to fund your booty calls. End of. That isn't what C-19 tests are for and you're wasting a valuable resource unnecessarily.

PP aren't being unnecessarily harsh - you just don't like the responses you're getting.

YABVVU but you already know this, even with your "but.... But.... But....." updates.

Comefromaway · 14/01/2021 17:25

My local authority are asking anyone who works out of the home to get tested weekly. You tick the ive been asked to get a test option.

Lulu1919 · 14/01/2021 17:27

Tests are there for people with symptoms I thought ?
Lateralflow tests are used in my school for those staff still mixing with classes of children only

1Morewineplease · 14/01/2021 17:28

Very unreasonable, but , deep down, you know that.
So many many people have played by the rules and not seen loved ones for months.

You are not in a unique situation at all.

Tenyearsgone · 14/01/2021 17:31

Yep. Mine too. All cunts apparently.
MyMonsteraisDeliciosa · 14/01/2021 17:47

@Tenyearsgone you are spectacularly missing the point over and over again on this thread. Asymptomatic tests are being widely used, we all know this. I have 3 tests a week because I work in a care home. That's not what's happening here at all. OP is deliberately lying to get symptomatic tests just for a hook up. It's a pure and simple abuse of the system. Asymptomatic tests are not.

MyMonsteraisDeliciosa · 14/01/2021 17:50

@Tenyearsgone I think I got you mixed up with another posters, apologies!!

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/01/2021 18:08

Still waiting for our rapid testing, where i work.

Merrymumoftwo · 14/01/2021 18:17

In regards to the community hubs the lateral flow tend not to go to a lab that’s why results in 30 minutes. They are looked at by local health care professionals

Somanysocks · 14/01/2021 18:27

Shall we pay your rent for you, as you're so special?

GrapefruitGin · 14/01/2021 18:33

You’re lying to get a free test from an already incredibly stretched service and you're asking if you’re being unreasonable?!!!! Wow.

RuthW · 14/01/2021 18:39

Yes it will flag up. Your gp surgery gets every surgery. I know we would contact someone have more than the average number of tests.

AndcalloffChristmas · 14/01/2021 18:53

There are private tests you should be using in this scenario (if you want weekly tests)

VodselForDinner · 14/01/2021 18:55

You want to tie-up precious public resources so that you can shag your new boyfriend every week?

Get the fuck out of it. FFS.
