Just seen a post on FB where people are talking about a scene from a film/TV series that has stuck in their minds.....seeing some of them has brought back some pretty scary memories.

Mine is the scene from Salems Lot where the vampire floats up to the window, taps on it and rasps "let me in".

Took me years after that to look out the window in the dark Hmm
Does anyone else have "fond" memories??

There are loads on here that gave me chills, but Wolf Creek was the reason for my husband refusing to watch horror movies in the hope it would put me off (it didn't!). Terrifying film!

Same as many others have mentioned, the alien walking past the child's party in Signs, but also dismemberment of his wife in the Last King of Scotland and in the recent IT Chapter 2 when Beverly goes back to her childhood home and you see the old woman transform and stall past in the back ground. I watched that with my brother & we were both really freaked out by it!

In terms of really mess you up, has anyone seen A Serbian Film?? I read a buzz feed article which said even reading the Wiki description would make you feel dirty. They weren't wrong 🤮

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/01/2021 13:21

The Shining.

Years after I first saw it, it was on TV late, and a dd announced that she was going to watch it. Scoffed when I told her it was seriously scary.
She soon changed her mind!

The first Christopher Lee Dracula - I was only about 14 (born in the Very Olden Days).
Scared the life out of me. For some reason I had a very old hardback copy of Dracula that had belonged to a GM. Even the cover was scary, with creepy old Gothic lettering.
I couldn’t sleep with that book in the room in case it somehow summoned him! Had to keep the bedroom window tightly shut in case he crawled in that way, as a bat. 😱
A school friend who saw it at the same time could barely sleep at all for several days afterwards.

I can still never understand how on earth anyone can find vampires ‘sexy’ - I gather that vampire ‘romances’ are very popular across the pond.

Whattodoffs · 15/01/2021 13:43

@DeathByMascara - just googled a Serbian Film and read two lines of the synopsis. Sincerely wish I hadn't!

Why the hell would someone want to make a film about that. They need help, as done anyone who went to watch it!!!!

Defo Don't Look Now. Psycho and The Birds.

My DM once hired a video (remember those days) for my small DC to watch thinking it was a Jack London classic. Opening scene - a sled with huskies carrying a coffin with young man and his son driving. . Sled overturns, slides into lake with young son, and coffin opens so boy and corpse intertwine. I heard the screams from the garden .....

So I've heard bits about Serbian Film for a while but curiosity got the better of me and I too googled. And sincerely wish I hadn't.

Why do films like this get made? It's basically snuff isn't it? And it's always men who feel the need to create these so called films. Men who probably go home to wives and kids.

I actually feel a bit weird and sick now.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 15/01/2021 14:18

Going back to the op, have you read the book? It's brilliant!

Whattodoffs · 15/01/2021 14:26

@TopBitchoftheWitches I have and agree, it is very good 😁

@Ddot

Watching a zombie movie at my friends then having to catch a bus outside the cemetery. Still can't abide zombies. Nature documentaries, soooo cruel worse than any horror imaginable
After seeng Poltergeist at the cinema, my cousin and I, aged 14, took a bus home to her grandmother's house. The bus stop was right beside an old, overgrown cemetery that was perched on a hill beside a bay. Very picturesque in daylight, but it was dark. We heard some rustling in the cemetery, (probably the wind blowing through the bushes) and we ran home.
Ddot · 15/01/2021 17:07

The Serbian film is based on truth, which makes the content far worse.
Not watched, not going to. I prefer a murder mystery.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/01/2021 17:13

@Mikeymoo12

I don't think I've ever come across anyone who remembers this scene but in the animals of farthing wood there was a scene where these birds were catching the mice and then impaling them on these thorns. It was horrific! I don't think I could stop crying for ages!
They must have been shrikes.

Shrikes do that - they have a larder.

Seems a bit savage for a kids' cartoon, though. My DD loved that programme, but I admit I didn't watch it with her.

Meowchickameowmeow · 15/01/2021 17:51

Does anyone remember a 'family' show from the 70s about a family moving into a new house, they start to experience weird shit and at a birthday party blood starts to seep from the walls or radiators? It was on over several weeks on a Sunday evening, I was so scared by it and carried on so much I got sent upstairs to listen to the top 40 instead!

ageingdisgracefully · 15/01/2021 18:35

Was it Clifton House Mystery@Meowchickameowmeow?

Ddot · 15/01/2021 18:49

Eraser head, twin peaks, blue velvet just mind blowing weirdness

Sounds like The House that Bled to Death

purplebunny2012 · 15/01/2021 18:56

I have just watched Toys are not for Children. Holy moley! You don't see what happens but you know what happens and it's just wrong! Not a horror, BTW

Cakeisforbreakfast · 15/01/2021 18:58

I’ll never watch The Wicker Man again, it made me feel horrible.
But does anyone remember ‘Watcher in the woods’? I watched it when I was really young and stayed with me, I couldn’t believe it when it was on a Sunday afternoon a few years back, I still couldn’t watch it!

Meowchickameowmeow · 15/01/2021 19:07

Sounds like The House that Bled to Death

That does sound like it, thank you. It's on YouTube but I daren't watch it!

Mikeymoo12 · 15/01/2021 19:09

Ah I didn't realise there were birds that actually did this!

AI a lot of scenes stayed with me . When the mom took the AI son into the woods to lose him .
Vanilla skies where you see the dream life that you play in a persons mind as they die and live it eternally . I still don't fully understand all this film . Thought it was brilliant and underrated but need to watch it again .
Flat liners where you see how their minds work when they die . Very creepy with the little hooded boy running.
Planet of the apes when at the end they see the Statue of Liberty and realise what had happened to Earth .

kerstina · 15/01/2021 19:56

Also the scene in the Orphanage where the old lady is hit by a speeding truck !

Aintgointogoa · 15/01/2021 20:03

Alfred Hitchcock Presents....watched on grandparents’ TV as we didn’t have one at home. B/W obviously. I was very little, they would just park me in front of it (not that I complained) One episode where the little girl turned into her treasured dolly (a black dolly - and this was in the early ‘60’s !) absolutely freaked me out. And I never forgot it. I think it’s ‘Down Where the Woodbine Grows” or similar - I tried finding it for my son.
Oh, just to be clear, it wasn’t that the dolly was black that freaked me out ! Mum was not happy about the nightmares....and refusing to sleep with my dollies.
