Are they exempt or in a bubble or something?

OP posts:

Oh well I don't watch daytime crap TV so I'm better than all of you. The authorities will reward me, I'm sure!

Hmm
Quartz2208 · 13/01/2021 10:58

They covered the essential back in the first lockdown - they were deemed to be able to provide easy to access information to those that may not follow the news.

They have regular medical professionals on to reassure and give updates. They also have news broadcasters on to do the same. They are I think also quite useful for the Gvt to gauge opinion on stuff - for example I cant see it becoming 3m anytime soon.

And then they are also there to bring us as much of a normal life as possible - the fashion sections are to lockdown etc. They have been very good at just having phone ins for people who are lonely and just want a chat.

Although my god the Grange Hill bit is making me feel old

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 10:59

Zammo!!

NoWordForFluffy · 13/01/2021 10:59

@MissBaskinIfYoureNasty

Oh goddddd does the frothing never stop
Nope. Some people seem to be positively loving the frothing opportunities they have due to Covid. It's tiresome!
NoWordForFluffy · 13/01/2021 11:00

Ah, Zammo...I'll never forget him being dead in a toilet cubicle. Just say no!

Mrsjayy · 13/01/2021 11:00

Zammo

I know!

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/01/2021 11:00

God Grange Hill, remember watching it before tea.

JohnMiddleNameRedactedSwanson · 13/01/2021 11:00

The government's Protect & Survive plans in the event of nuclear attack during the Cold War included plans for what would be broadcast on TV. They had a whole schedule of light entertainment and comedies to keep the nation's spirits up in combination with the terrifying public information content.

DecemberSun · 13/01/2021 11:01

Can't stand the programme but no one is catching the virus by watching it.

OP, shouldn't you be teaching your out of school kids and not watching TV?

Mrsjayy · 13/01/2021 11:01

Oo Ant has aged weirdly 😲

Quartz2208 · 13/01/2021 11:02

the hair! Still have a soft spot for Sean Maguire from it.

Feel it has somewhat derailed the thread

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 11:05

Well that segment was text book social distancing....

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/01/2021 11:10

I think freaking was being sarky.

FabbyMagic · 13/01/2021 11:11

Oh do get over yourself 😂

PinkSkyBlue · 13/01/2021 11:14

My very first Biscuit
For some people, this show gets them through the morning! As PP said, regular phone ins for the shielding are a life line.

Faithtrusts · 13/01/2021 11:22

I cannot believe that someone is now endorsing the idea that only essential tv should be screened... seriously?!

If it's not bad enough right now.. Confused

Lovemusic33 · 13/01/2021 11:23

Switch it off if you don’t want to watch it. For some people tv is what’s keeping them going whilst sat alone in their houses unable to go out or see family. The crazy troll, leprechaun and fairy cheered me up yesterday when I was having a bad day with dd 🤣.

I’m sure they are sat more than 2m apart and are taking precautions regarding covid.

Oreservoir · 13/01/2021 11:24

Couldn’t care less who watches what but This Morning as a public service - hilarious 😂

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 13/01/2021 11:26

Sparkling Grin No you should stay in the bath as that gives you bonus points over just merely "Staying at Home". I do believe if you have a hot beverage at the same time you go Up A Level of Greatness too.

I got out but yes I was indeed 'welded' into my house, in the bath. I will email Boris and tell him. But I worry my bath may have been non essential. I am having a non essential sit on the sofa with a cuppa now, plus an After Eight mint or two.
lucywho123 · 13/01/2021 11:33

Further question. Is there programme really essential?

Gawd, you've gone there. Boring heck. Dont watch it. I don't. But many people are WFH right now, and this might be the only bit of joy they get to see day to day. FFS

Sparklesocks · 13/01/2021 11:33

This Morning is fluff but it actually helps a lot of people feel a sense of normality. It's a distraction, it's easy to watch, they chit chat as if the viewer is part of the conversation - this is especially invaluable to elderly people living alone and fosters connection. They often do phone ins where viewers talk about how they're coping in lockdown, and it's often people are struggling for one reason or another but they usually say they enjoy tuning into the show and it keeps them occupied, albeit for a short time. I remember there was a very heartbreaking call from an elderly widow who lived alone and she asked if they could help her find someone to walk with as she was so lonely. They had floods of calls from people wanting to help.

It might seem a bit silly and non essential but there are many people who only have a TV for company at the best of times, let alone at the moment.

Quaagars · 13/01/2021 11:34

@Lastfreakinglegs

They're not sat close together.
They explained and showed how they did it last year - it's a split screen so it looks like they're right next to each other but they're not.
Oh, and what should we have on instead?
24 hour rolling news and 'Rona updates and absolutely nothing else lest anybody get ideas of frivolity?!

@MissBaskinIfYoureNasty

Oh goddddd does the frothing never stop

Nope, seems not Grin
It is SO fucking miserable on here lately.
At least Phil and Holly are a bit of light relief lol

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty

ancientgran · 13/01/2021 11:34

I don't watch it but I know on GMTV the presenters look close together but they aren't. One morning they did show a bit of how far apart they are but they do a split screen to make it look like how they normally sit.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2021 11:35

At the moment Phil Vickery is about to give advice to a parent to make her free food box go further. That's good isn't it?
