I keep trying to get a photo of the cheeky squirrel who’s been digging up my lawn, to placemark the Westminster’s threads. Kinda appropriate. But he’s Just. Too. Damn. QuickGrin

Wherrsmaclickypen · 13/01/2021 13:41

@DGRossetti

GOT was set in England

The author basically set it Medieval England - he said in a documentary somewhere. The Anarchy, Wars of the Roses ... all fits.

Quite so, but not all the lands in GOT were 'England'......I guess I was just unappreciative of the name check, we have enough problems of our own, without Guiliani dragging us into it. 😬

Compare and contrast to the Indy. A nice demonstration of how you can cover the news without feeding the beast.

Small pic, headline and wording:
"No regrets for deadly violence:
"• Defiant Trump shows zero contrition for inciting mob
"• Pence urged to take power using 25th Amendment"

I've long been a fan of the "No Notoriety" protocol for reporting on killers and violent movements for whom the media coverage is one of their aims.

Fame, infamy, their name in lights surrounded by glory and fear... these are what terrorists and mass shooters want.

Those papers chose to feed the beast.

Ahhh making sense! I go on my mob but not on the app, just through chrome andmostly use my laptop. And for going back to where you posted, yes I get that. I 'watch' a thread and then do control F my name and go to my last post... bit convoluted maybe!

I have always wondered why!

Phew, thought I'd forgotten to attach pics of front pages. But they're there now (for me, at least).
Ah bless 'Princess Purses', so so deluded Smile

www.vanityfair.com/news/2021/01/ivanka-trump-political-future
Inviting her to the inauguration - even if it's done under the guise of pandering to her delusions - would be a clever way to dampen any violence there. And if she's offering to be a hostage (since we've gone all GoT) it would be rude to refuse.

After all, the more guns there are, the more chances one might go off by accident. As LBJ knew full well.

Roussette · 13/01/2021 13:45

DGR It does remind me of when a poster started a thread asking for advice on double pushchairs. She didn't get much response.

Two years later she answered her own thread with the pushchair she recommended 😂

Contract worth approx. 20 million apparently.

New York City moving to sever Trump Org contracts to run 4 businesses in NYC Parks.

Covers Wollman Ice Rink, Lasker Ice Rink, Central Park Carousel, and Trump Links golf course in the Bronx.

Hopefully employees will be retained if someone else takes on the contracts.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/01/2021 13:48

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I thought the Alamo was a defeat for the Texians, not a victory? I mean, the commanding officer and Crockett and Bowie were killed, and Santa Anna was the victor and burned all the Texian dead in one huge pyre so nobody knows whose actual ashes were buried as Crockett's and Bowie's later, or even where; doesn't sound much like something for America to celebrate, to me.

Weren't Travis and his men "losers" in Trump's lexicon?

Dongdingdong · 13/01/2021 13:51

But for many real Christians, forgiveness and compassion towards enemies is a real thing.

@PerkingFaintly I assume you feel forgiveness and compassion towards Donald Trump then. No, thought not Hmm

So presumably there's something in the contract allowing for early termination ? Which moves the definition of what happened last week from criminal to civil liability ?

Will Trump inc. have the liquidity to advance fund a court case to dispute it ?

Remember how a lot of people think Dunkirk was a "victory" too ...

The news of Lisa Montgomery's execution has made me really sad this morning. Not defending her crime, which was truly horrific, but when I went to bed yesterday, I believed she'd secured a stay of execution.

Another horrendous act to add to Trumps legacy - the state-sanctioned murder of a mentally ill woman in the last week of his administration

What that woman did was completely and utterly sickening. This is one case I won’t be losing any sleep over.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/01/2021 13:55

Apols if this has already been posted. I'm not up to speed.

Here are the insurrectionists talking about the plan, including detailed schematics of the Capitol building.

I think PMK came from the Westminstenders threads where it originally stood for placemarking, then became something to do with fish and finally evolved into pictures of pussycats.

Roussette · 13/01/2021 13:56

Sister and brother of Rep. Paul Gosar on CNN (one of the republican senators who's name is linked with organising all of this). They do not have one good word to say about him and say he is complicit in making last Wednesday happen.

'Paul, my brother, has lost sight of integrity and honour, he peddles in rumour and progaganda. He should resign or be expelled. I want to warn the people of Congress about him'

There are other brothers and sisters who agree with these two also. Shock

I remember the anti-Gosar ad they made when he was standing for election.

PerkingFaintly · 13/01/2021 13:59

Thanks for telling me what I think and feel DongDingDong. Hmm

By the way, I can never get all the "l"s and "i"s right in your non-festive name.

Can you remind me of the correct spelling please? I'm sure I've spelt you wrong on previous occasions (apologies for that).

'2020, marked by a deadly pandemic and rampant police brutality that took the lives of Black Americans like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, was devastating, to say the least. But there were glimmers of hope: Both of those horrors caused a portion of white Americans to finally realize, and maybe even accept, that racism is the root cause of many of America’s moral failures.'

After all, the more guns there are, the more chances one might go off by accident. As LBJ knew full well.

And of course if you were writing the screenplay, it would be a very good way to increase the tension.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/01/2021 14:00

Re the NY contracts:

I've been fighting to cancel these contracts since Trump came down the escalator in 2015 to launch his campaign of hate.

These contracts are revokable AT WILL. Trump may sue but there's ample precedent for this.

The Trump name will never sully our precious green space again

Admin spent years claiming we don't have the legal authority. But the contracts are severable AT WILL. And there is ample precedent for cancelling a parks concession when a proprietor has criminal entanglement.

I want Ivanka to be there.

I want her to be sat at the back.

I want the cameras to not focus on her even once so that no one even knows she is there

Here in the UK, debates around Brexit have certainly strained familial bonds, meanwhile in the US, Trump and his divisive politics have done that same.

That was no more obvious than when an 18-year-old woman spotted her mother at a Trump protest and proceeded to call out her hypocrisy.

Helena Duke had spotted her mother in footage posted on social media in which violence erupted as Helena’s mother Therese attempted to grab a Black woman who was surrounded by a crowd of white Trump supporters.

Therese had travelled to Washington DC in secret and had turned off her phone’s location in an attempt to prevent her daughter from finding out where she was.

However, in the viral clip, Helena recognised her mother, as well as her uncle Richard Lorenz and aunt Annie Lorenz. None of them had informed 18-year-old Helena they were attending the ‘Stop the Steal’ rally.

In a Twitter post, Helena retweeted the footage with a caption reading:

“hi mom remember the time you told me I shouldn’t go to BLM protests bc they could get violent...this you?”
