Thankfully business is pulling their support for Republicans. This will hit them where it hurts and may concentrate their selfish minds. Some believe Trump, some are just following because they think they will keep their jobs if they have the Trump crowd voting for them.

I think the trial happening after Biden is in office will also help the process - Trump will be much less powerful then (although still a threat to national security).

In the USA, all elections levels are on one sheet of paper.

If the Presidential Election was "stolen"
so were those of the Senators and Congressmen and women and state representatives and town police chiefs.

Will all of them step aside on the basis that their elections were unsound?
Because if the ballot paper was misread, it will have been misread all the way down the page

God, imagine being on the security detail stuck with Trump and Melania when they are the Ex POTUS 'n' FLOTUS from midday next Wednesday. Talk about a short straw.

Thanks for the new thread 👍

Shocked but not surprised at allegations of members of the House leading recon tours.

That really needs investigation.

Does anyone know that the process would be to remove someone from office if such allegations were proven?

CaveMum · 13/01/2021 13:04

As Trevor Noah pointed out in the aftermath of the election, if the Democrats stole the election they did a bloody bad job of it - surely if they were going to steal it they would have ensured they had a very healthy majority in both Houses at the same time!

Why, it's almost like the protesters don't really believe it and are just rabblerousers and troublemakers.

Certain a tack I would take if I were prosecuting them. They are just common criminals with fuck all veneer of justification.

I call it "The Thatcher Stance". Which was completely and utterly wrongly misdirected in the UK, but fits like a glove here.

From BBC:

'Most Americans support impeachment' - CBS poll
A new poll for CBS News suggests a majority of Americans support a second impeachment of President Trump.

Of those polled, 55% said there were in favour opposed to 45% against.

It comes hours before the House of Representatives is due to hold a vote on impeaching Mr Trump.

Asked if they thought more acts of violence were likely following last week's attack on Congress, 74% believed it was at least "somewhat likely".

Most of those polled - 59% - believed that what happened at the US Capitol could be described as insurrection, and an attempt to overthrow the government.

Thank you for this new thread and to all posters making this a must read. I just wanted to add my agreement and sadness that it is now inarguable that collusion on a worrying scale lay behind the events at Capitol Hill and Republicans will be hard pushed to continue to position it as a small far right extremist minority acting independently and who are conveniently being disavowed. Can you just imagine the consequences and terror and different language if such a collusion and atrocity had been at the hand of black politicians and activists.

And that is the nub of it for me, where the whole Republican party go from here. Nothing short of a truth and reconciliation exercise within the party will start to address this. The slow and qualified and reluctant condemnations, the struggle to find enough heads to back impeachment, the denial in the party does not bode well at all. This more than anything is what worries me. The martyrdom of white extremists and the normalisation of extremism in politics where people are in fear of their lives and in fear of doing the right thing. Sad times.

PS Also, I didnt appreciate GOT was set in England so I have to thank Rudy for that 👍 😬😬😬 and comparing The Donald to Tyrion 🤣

DGRossetti · 13/01/2021 13:26

GOT was set in England

The author basically set it Medieval England - he said in a documentary somewhere. The Anarchy, Wars of the Roses ... all fits.

Will he ?

People have been trained to spoon feed him only good news. Which is a key hallmark of a dictator, by the way.

I've just had a very depressing look down the Today's Headlines.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-55641624

Many of the UK papers are covering school meals and Covid-related stuff. But the Daily Telegraph, Times and Financial Times front pages are dominated by large photos of Trump "looking presidential". With headlines to match.

The Daily Telegraph just has a huge pic captioned, "Trump makes wall his Alamo"; the Times goes with "I was 'totally appropriate' before riots, says Trump" at the top of an article which is a very mixed bag but opens with three paragraphs repeating Trump claims.

Just curious as to why posters put an empty post with a full stop or PMK to keep this thread on your list... instead of clicking 'watch this thread' ? Is there any reason? Is there something I should know about?!!

Welcome all anyway

I think “watch” doesn’t work on the App? Otherwise it must be that they don’t know that you can simply watch a thread. It used to happen a lot but there are just a few people who do it now.

Yy to this. It’s pretty depressing what is coming out, this being an inside job that goes to high level in the GOP. The rot goes right through the party and it’s hard to see how it can be dealt with. I guess the next few days will tell us.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/01/2021 13:37

Rudy on GoT: "that very famous documentary about fictitious medieval England"

Yes, it was based on the Wars of the Roses.

No, it really wasn't a documentary.

If we needed any further proof that Rudy really can't tell truth from fiction, we do now have it.

MN is flaky everywhere but especially so with thread watching ...

My favourite (I reported it 6 years ago) is where you comment on a thread and add yourself to "watch this thread". Then it goes quiet for a few days. Then someone comments on it. You see it in "Active" or just AIBU/Chat. Start to read it. Think "This sounds familiar" and the realise you commented on it, but it didn't appear in your "Threads I'm On" list.

Think of it as the price you have to pay to ensure you can't edit posts.
