A handy list for the FBI

Please give us your name and address and what crimes you've committed. Grin
Are you sure that's not an FBI plant?

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 09/01/2021 18:50

@Roussette

Blimey. On Parler. They all think Trumpy is going to pardon them...
So people are going to reply with name, address, and list of crimes committed? Um...
Lweji · 09/01/2021 18:52

On a side note, my cable provider in Portugal no longer has Fox News. I wonder what the reasons are.

Lweji · 09/01/2021 18:53

It was literally from the 5th to the 6th.

PerkingFaintly · 09/01/2021 18:54

Nice one, terrywynne.

I should point out that the article about the techies' Hippocratic Oath was forwarded to me by... a software engineer. Who considers it vital to consider such issues in their work writing code and designing systems.

One of the points that came up is to consider how easy a system makes it to take certain actions. Is an action on by default? Does it require the user to be proactive? Does it require the user to be proactive and require a further click to "Confirm"? And so on.

Aka "Right-click: dispatch drones".

Every thing that you do to automate makes it more likely that an action will be taken; every thing that requires confirmation or human initiation will slow down an action and make it less likely to happen, and make it happen on a smaller scale.

So, often software engineers have quite a strong influence on how the system is ultimately likely to be used. This may put them at odds with their sales folk – and indeed their own natures – for whom faster is always better. Whereas in the bigger picture... maybe not so much.

Igotjelly · 09/01/2021 18:55

Is there any way a presidential pardon can be undone?

PerkingFaintly · 09/01/2021 19:01

@Destinysdaughter

PerkingFaintly that is very good advice. I have a friend who is diabetic and has spent much of lockdown on her own. We had a conversation recently and she said she wasn't going to take the vaccine as she don't trust it as it had been rushed out too quickly. She's 60 and diabetic, so potentially vulnerable. I didn't argue with her, just tried to calmly tell her what I had read about why they had managed to develop it so quickly. Although tbh I wanted to shake some sense into her!

Anyhow, the next week she posted on FB that she'd been having a conversation with her pharmacist who seemed to have been able to reassure her that it was safe and that it was the only way out. So, seems like it was hearing a trusted source ( per that article ) that changed her mind.

And at the same time, she didn't have to just straight admit to you that you were what changed her mind!

YES!

You got her on the track of questioning it, and she (rightly) feels like she was proactive in making her mind up.

DGRossetti · 09/01/2021 19:10

As President Carter showed, it's possible to pardon an unknown number of people if you want without needing to know who they are.

I rather like the idea of that being mentioned to Trumpers and dismissed because it mentions Carter.

Still, this is the land where wanted felons happily turned up to a police sting to collect their "lottery win"

FantasticButtocks · 09/01/2021 19:19

Phew, playing catch up, thanks for new thread 🙏

TaxTheRatFarms · 09/01/2021 19:19

@Lipz

Oh god just seen on CNN the video released of the police man being squashed in the door by all the rioters. They were ripping his gas mask off, shoving his face backwards, hitting and punching him and really squashing him hard and he was screaming for help. Oh Jesus that actually stopped me in my tracks and made me well up. I hope he's OK.
Lipz I posted the link to that video up thread somewhere - it’s absolutely shocking isn’t it! They could have crushed him to death, and they just weren’t stopping. I have seen somewhere on twitter (so not sure how true!) that he has commented to say he’s ok despite his arm being badly hurt, and thanking people for their support.

I’ll post the link again but for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, be warned it’s tough viewing.

Parler surrendered complete forensic databases to the FBI Wednesday night.

So if they weren’t a honeytrap before they’ve become a net.

It’s going to be a long few months for some people on Parler social media.

@FATEdestiny

From MSNBC "The president is in a very fragile mental state right now and he's not taking well to what's happening," Philip Rucker says. "He feels betrayed by his VP ... and a lot of admin. officials are very uncertain about what he might do tomorrow."

Is he a gun owner?
Could he be a suicide risk?

I posted the famous scene from Downfall earlier I am waiting for someone to dub Trump on to it.
BelfastBloke · 09/01/2021 19:36

I think there has been a Downfall parody, but it was about the NOVEMBER vote count.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/01/2021 19:43

As I understand it Presidential pardons are for federal crimes. The protesters may have committed state felonies as well. Trump can’t pardon himself or anyone else for state law breaches.

cheezy · 09/01/2021 19:50

Someone I follow on FB (an evangelical Christian convinced that Trump is ordained by God for some reason) posted a link to this video and thought I’d share. Have not attempted to watch yet myself but intend to. m.theepochtimes.com/2020-election-investigation-who-is-stealing-america_3617562.html?fbclid=IwAR1pcYlRFvO9SBppCUvJQHKCQ57wkku8p877VubIzoNU1QGBmftpk-kNr0k

The Trump believers are utterly convinced that the Mainstream Media are suppressing huge amounts of information.

If you like podcasts, I’d highly recommend subscribing to The Infinite Monkey Cage from the BBC. They did an episode in January last year about conspiracy theories.

This is the summary:

“Brian Cox and Robin Ince are joined on stage by comedian Shazia Mirza, science writer and cancer researcher Dr David Robert Grimes and psychologist Prof Karen Douglas to look at the weird world of conspiracy theories. From Flat Earth believers to people who refuse to accept that humans have ever been to the moon, why is fiction often so much easier to believe than fact - and does it matter? They discuss the psychology and profile of people who are more likely to believe in conspiracies and the devastating effect some, like the anti-vaccine movement, have had on public health. They ask whether being irrational is our default setting and how to convince the most hard-core believers with the power of evidence and critical thinking. Although they would say that wouldnt' they?”

Obviously this is so awful but I'm intrigued by the details, eg does he have any access to the gun cabinets?

What loyalty to ss staff have! Who instructs who I mean he's still USA top guy!
Rather than suicide risk, I'm thinking more of scarface final scene with tump jnr.

Most intriguing from historical pov.

Roussette · 09/01/2021 20:05

CaveMum that's interesting, I'll look at that

General Presidential Pardon info;

Just to kind of consolidate information:

So-called 'pre-emptive' pardons are for PAST CRIMES that may be discovered in the future. Cannot pardon for crimes that may be committed in the future.

POTUS can pardon whomever he wants for whatever FEDERAL crimes he wants, up to an including murder, insurrection, or treason. There is no restriction or oversight. There is a 'presidential pardon cmte', but they are advisory only.

'Self-pardon' has never been tested. There are arguments for both sides. Nixon considered it, but resigned and let Ford pardon him.

A Presidential Pardon does NOT erase a conviction.

A Presidential Pardon is generally held to be irreversible by either Congress or the courts. The only time one has been reversed was when it was granted and then reversed by the same POTUS. Whether or not a POTUS can reverse a pardon granted by a different POTUS has never been tried.
