I had assumed worse case scenario would be summer term...but it was pointed out to me tonight that if vaccinations are slow in rolling out, it could quite conceivably be September.

Thoughts?

I hope things get better for your teen. Flowers

It’d all happen so much sooner if they’d lock us down properly now!!

So no flights, only food / other essential cargo and not allowed to leave port till drivers tested, people effectively quarantined by the state if they present as positive so they don’t stop at the dammed supermarket on way home to quarantine.

Schools and nurseries and all other not essential places closed, and a curfew and far stricter on reasons allowed out. Then we’d stand more chance of getting in under control without having to wait another year or so till as many have the vaccine as can possibly be convinced to have it!

Schools and nurseries are essential

I think anything could happen, and if liar Johnson says things might improve by Easter, it is hard not to take that to mean 'not Easter' given his track record!

As an aside, it isn't scaremongering to discuss things or ask questions. So many people on these threads try to shut down what other people want to discuss.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 11/01/2021 12:45

Summer makes a MASSIVE difference to respiratory conditions.

It will be after Easter.

Nonamesavail · 11/01/2021 12:51

I looked back and some old threads had people saying dont be silly about not being normal by January etc but the reality is this is long term. I think September is realistic.

Pipandmum · 11/01/2021 12:55

As a parent of a child who quite likely will be sitting iGCSEs (currently going ahead), that would be an utter disaster.
The vaccine is being rolled out and I am hoping for a March return, and pessimistically an after Easter return.

Lookslikerainted · 11/01/2021 13:19

I reckon Easter, I can’t see it being Feb

Frazzled2207 · 11/01/2021 18:27

I can't see it being half term but if cases do come down sometime in March would not be completely out of the question.

imalmosthere · 11/01/2021 18:31

No they won't - primaries after feb half term and secondaries after Easter. There's no way they will be closed until September 🙄 the vaccine is rolling out and they are adamant on education being priority. By summer the country will look a lot different.

New cases have dropped a lot in my county and neighbouring councils so fingers crossed

Yes it might be a return to the Tier system and areas where the rate is low allowed to reopen after Feb half-term.

It was incongruous having Tier 4 London primaries closed and Tier4 elsewhere supposedly safe to open they so they need to stop that inconsistency. (We were Tier 4 prior to lockdown and the rate is the highest here it's ever been but hope lockdown will have significant effect).

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 12/01/2021 16:56

We live near another county though and kids travel between areas for school so I'm not sure how that would work with different county level tiers? e.g. if Tier 4 schools closed but kids living there attend school in neighbouring Tier 3 with schools open

Why the fuck is this not in the Covid Secrion. Some of us don't want to see your doom and gloom in the title!!

Please Mnet HQ moves this ASAP! Some of us are trying to look after our mental health!!!!

No-one forced you to read it, @TartanLassie!
Bluntness100 · 12/01/2021 17:04

The signs are they will start reopening early March op.

LakieLady · 12/01/2021 17:17

@QuantumQuality

The actual Prime Minister said this was a possibility, I’m not sure why anyone is surprised it’s a possibility. I mean, apart from the fact that he’s a notorious liar. But he usually lies in the positive direction.
Having spent the best part of a year overpromising and under-delivering on all matters Covid, I suspect he may have gone to the opposite extreme.

He's probably been on a "Managing Expectations" course or something.

Returning after Easter feels about right to me, but given they've done everything else later than they should, that probably means September.

Draineddraineddrained · 12/01/2021 17:29

What are people seeing that makes them think it won't be after the Feb half term?? That's what we're banking on in this family...

The numbers of infected people are still too high and it will take a while for them to come down.

Too high numbers to open them again in February. I've got am awful feeling it will be a few year groups only until September.
GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 12/01/2021 18:26

@Nonamesavail I really hope that doesn’t transpire like last time! A rota (although it wouldn’t suit everyone) would be much fairer. I had one DC back in school fulltime in May and the other who I could take to the pub May-July 🤦‍♀️ For their education, engagement and wellbeing would have been much better if they had both had some form of blended face to face / home learning - instead we had all or nothing.

Secondary teacher here. This is what I think too. Possibly staggered return for both primary and secondary.
tinytemper66 · 12/01/2021 20:16

I really hope not. (Not read the thread...just OP's 1st post) I amnteqching from home and hate it. I want the pupils back in as soon as possible. I hate remote learning or blended learning as we call it.
I miss the social aspect of school as well as being able to help the less able far better when in the classroom.

TurquoiseDress · 12/01/2021 20:17

I have everything crossed that they can get back for the second half of the Spring term...or worse case after Easter

Children cannot be missing out on such vast chunks of their education, whichever age/stage they are at

TurquoiseDress · 12/01/2021 20:19

No way September!Shock

The vaccine program is being rolled out & picking up speed this week with general practice launching their vaccine programs

Other countries, like France are doing v poorly with vaccine delivery & reluctance to have it. Schools are still open over there apparently, although their death rate is lower than ours
