I had assumed worse case scenario would be summer term...but it was pointed out to me tonight that if vaccinations are slow in rolling out, it could quite conceivably be September.

Thoughts?

September I think. Worst case next easter

You do mean 2024 though right? because anything before that is just overly optimistic!

🙄

Aw, you have out - doomed my claim of 2023. How very dare you! 😂

hehe! We'll be on wave 345 by then and tier 27,498

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 09/01/2021 13:31

I think easter latest , may even see some back after feb half term if vaccinations continue to go well as tbf they are not slow at rolling out

MushMonster · 09/01/2021 13:37

I do not see this happening, no

Itsnotlikethiswithotherpeople · 10/01/2021 00:22

@Marzipan12

I hope not. If it goes on longer then Feb half term they will have to put kids on a rota instead of prioritising keyworkers to ensure every child gets an education in school. As much as I feel for keyworkers they cannot justify denying other kids an education longterm.
That’s what most headteachers wanted from October half term and arguably schools may not have had to shut if we’d done that.
956806416ak · 10/01/2021 01:28

But how will that help key workers work?? That was the point of it. The other ideas of a rota has merit but it would have to go alongside key workers' kids. It's not about fairness but providing everyone with basic services.

Yes. Agreed.

Only one thing I’ll predict. Hysterical arseholes on mumsnet will enjoy stirring up the anxiety of others by posting shit like this. Somebody will come along claiming inside information, the hysterical will become more so
This.
There have already been more people vaccinated in the UK than in the rest of Europe put together. When those in the high risk (for needing hospitalisation) have been done no reason not to get back to normal.
So many people on here have had it with no serious symptoms -even those ‘ecv’ that makes no sense to keep pupils out of schoo beyond half-term

956806416ak · 10/01/2021 12:28

If you read the Times today, you so see that the proportions of younger people in critical care are rising steeply and they don't know if that is down to a difference in the course of the illness or a the transmission difference. Either way, you don't seem to be speaking from an informed place.

KeyboardWorriers · 10/01/2021 12:33

We haven't even hit the peak yet according to the models I have seen.

In the summer was called hysterical for warning mumsnetters there would be autumn/winter lockdowns ...

Cherrysoup · 10/01/2021 12:35

The talk is Easter, but I’m hoping for sooner. Talking to a silent computer is killing me and speaking to my neighbours, it’s killing their dc too.

WeeWillyWanky · 10/01/2021 12:55

@Thewinterofdiscontent

Schools are more open now than back in the spring lock down despite having a higher death rate.
It's crazy! Back in May when R, Y1 and Y6 could return (along with KW children), we had 60 children back. We now have 93, and that's in a one form entry Primary.
MrsMomoa · 10/01/2021 13:23

No. That would be ridiculous!

Penistoe · 10/01/2021 13:31

Why are people blaming op for asking this question? It’s better to be prepared for it surely!? I think the best we can hope for atm is April but wouldn’t be surprised if we have to write of the year. It all depends if people start sticking to the rules and take up the vaccine.

Empressofthemundane · 10/01/2021 13:43

@956806416ak

I’m not sure that is the right characterisation of the situation. I think this recent BBC article is clearer.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55586994

Children are still very safe, thank goodness.

956806416ak · 10/01/2021 14:25

They're both trusted news outlets with statistics to back up their claims-I have no idea which one is more accurate and I hope you are correct in going with the BBC.

NobbyButtons · 10/01/2021 15:09

I'm hoping they will open in February but that's probably too optimistic; more likely to be Easter.

LickEmbysmiling · 10/01/2021 15:17

They are rushing back dc as soon as possible.
There are calls that gavin needs to stand up to the unions but to do that h needs to prove that schools ate safe.
Some reports say teachers are not at risk, others say they are. Some reports are trying to say covid doesn't spread in school.

The bottom line is that teachers lives and other school staff who come into contact with students are not expendable. Their lives matter so until every stop is pulled out to ensure their safety no one should be going back
That means pulling every stop out, masks, self isolation, social distancing, heating, warm clothes, vaccines..

Mumski45 · 10/01/2021 15:22

They will go back when the hospitals have capacity to treat people who need to be treated. That will happen when the at risk groups have been vaccinated and hospital admission fall. They won't wait for everyone to be vaccinated or even infection levels to fall drastically. What's key is who is being infected not how many.

Empressofthemundane · 10/01/2021 16:14

Yes, @Mumski45 that’s my understanding too.

That's exactly what I think. It's not a question of eliminating all cases, it's a question of reducing hospital admissions back to normal levels.
GrumpiestCat · 10/01/2021 17:20

Sheer numbers needed to get through the vaccine system and then it to take effect.. I think it's safe to expect the worst with schools. I know we have half term in our heads but I'm girding myself for Easter at best.

Normal has changed, as far as we can let's try to adapt to it. It's horrible and I really feel for people who's jobs are being fucked with "homeschooling" and the young people mentally socially and educationally damaged. I've got a teen self harming and am working at 40 percent at best so hoping we can just claw through it all.
