Just that really. I neither like nor dislike him I don't feel any emotion towards him.
AIBU to ask why so many people on here hate/dislike Boris Johnson?

But he declined to vote on it in parliament.

The vote was in 2013 - how could he vote in parliament as London Mayor? He became an MP again in 2016 (London Mayor 4 May 2008 – 9 May 2016.)

@jasjas1973

I don’t think Angela Raynor is in the least bit impressive, she seems like a student activist to me

....and what exactly is wrong with student activists????

John Ashworth is very good, ties up that Hancock quite easily and has been ahead of the govt curve on lockdowns and tier restrictions.

Funnily enough, when he was in the Corbyn shadow cabinet, i thought he was useless, obv didn't support comrade Corbyn.

Nothing wrong with students activism up to the age of 20 but in a deputy leader of the opposition it is worrying. She seems to have little depth of thinking and is a bandwagon jumping, Twitter politician. I hope Keir demotes her soon. She also called a fellow mp a horrible name in Westminster a couple of months ago. Very unprofessional although she did apologise. I bet Keir was pulling his hair out when he heard.
jasjas1973 · 09/01/2021 19:18

I like Raynor, she is authentic! Starmers very own Prescott if you like.

Agree the "scum" comment was rash to say the least!

Though anyone who supports keeping very poor kids hungry has to expect a certain amount of anger towards them.

sashagabadon · 09/01/2021 19:27

Authentically awful Grin

randomer · 09/01/2021 19:56

JC also almost won in 2017 That simply isn't true. Though it was Corbyn's high water mark.

Truth is, he failed to beat a Tory leader who was immensely unpopular. Whose own support base had collapsed over her mishandling of negotiations with the EU as well a dreadful campaign led by the useless Lynton Crosby. Even so, may won the largest share of the vote since 1983 in an election with a high turnout.

The reason for Corbyn's failure, [besides his fondness for left wing violence] was his facing both ways on Brexit. He had a more consistent record of opposing the EU project than Bill Cash of the Tories even. On the other hand he opted to play the "Tory Brexit" card when he felt it would work to his advantage. This wasn't lost on voters. It was what Keir Starmer later called 'constructive ambiguity'. In other words, he lied.

May had a 20pt lead when she called the election, she'd not have done it otherwise.

There was little in the way of EU/UK negotiations between May taking over in July 2016 and May 2017.

Her problems came out of being in hock to the DUP after the election where she had a half decent majority wiped out.

I think you are rewriting history.

ListeningQuietly · 09/01/2021 20:19

COVID or no COVID
Johnson created Brexit
Johnson pressed on with a hard Brexit when he had the chance to delay.
But he's so arrogant that he thought he could win both
and he will be proved to lose both

Past members of the Labour front bench are irrelevant
as they are not handing multi million COVID contracts to their chums

Clavinova · 09/01/2021 20:35

John Ashworth is very good, ties up that Hancock quite easily and has been ahead of the govt curve on lockdowns and tier restrictions.

He certainly has some good ideas - December 15 he retweeted this article;

Why many countries failed at COVID contact-tracing—but some got it right.

If only we had introduced contact tracing and surveillance like South Korea and Vietnam:

In South Korea, authorities use data-surveillance techniques to get around the problem of people being unwilling to disclose—or unable to recall—close contacts. “We need to double-check,” says Daejoong Lee at the South Korean Ministry of Economy and Finance. A law passed in response to an outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) in 2015 allows authorities to use data from credit cards, mobile phones and closed-circuit television to trace a person’s movements and identify others they might have exposed to the virus. Information about cases is published online, an approach that allowed the country to avoid broad lockdowns and “worked very well”, says Lee.

Tracers in Vietnam also use extra data—such as Facebook or Instagram posts and mobile-phone location data—to check a person’s movements against those reported to contact-tracers... Contact-tracers interview people face-to-face and use the extra surveillance data to prod for more details.

I like Ashworth.

When I first heard he I thought he was like that RE teacher who monologues for a whole lesson and you wish would shut up (and I'm religious!)

Thought Keir was rather like this too. He's also growing on me.

AliceAbsolum · 09/01/2021 20:47

I'm mildly obsessed with him Blush Love his libertarian attitude and his humanity.

I absolutely would Grin

jasjas1973 · 09/01/2021 20:50

Would you rather fewer deaths Clav or more?

Currently, we have restrictions such as who you can have in your house, exercise with... how far you can drive & not able to be with your partner of child as they die etc etc.

Using FB data seems harmless by comparison.

MarshaBradyo · 09/01/2021 20:53

Past members of the Labour front bench are irrelevant

They are and will be irrelevant. As much as I’d like Labour to not get beaten by a landslide like last time they still have a way to go. Even with pandemic and Brexit. They have some time though, so maybe they’ll get closer.

SabrinaThwaite · 09/01/2021 20:57

Speaking of contract tracing - it’s gone awfully quiet on how our world-beating test and trace system was integral to preventing the spread of Covid.

I wonder why?

I agree - FB, credit card data etc...
But I don't believe for one second that most of the Labour Party would vote these measures in if they were in government.

... and neither has the Tory govt and they could but have chosen not to even consider it. Indeed Johnson appears to have tuned down lockdown restrictions to keep his right wing MPs on side.

Meanwhile the rest of us die and are stuck in LD for longer......

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/01/2021 21:37

I dislike him because I’ve heard he eats kittens and babies.

Well I can’t say too much about that as I also cute little kittens. I put them on a butty and eat them all up. WinkGrin

WildRosie · 09/01/2021 22:08

I don't hate him. However, he is the Prime Minister and he has long since lost control. So I am wary of him, at least.

Guylan · 09/01/2021 22:31

@Clavinova

His old boss didn’t like him either.

The same boss who referred to "Johnson’s glittering intelligence."

You can think someone is intelligent but not like their character.

Also re your post ,Johnson it is widely known was more culturally liberal in his earlier years. His current base isn’t and he will change accordingly.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/01/2021 08:00

It would be a pleasant change if, for once, @Clavinova gave us some original, independent, thoughts rather than just relying on C&P from Google.

What do YOU actually think about BoZo's pandemic response combined with Brexit. Do you think he's doing a good job? If yes, what's convinced you of this?

Don't tell me...you need to pop out so can't answer.

longwayoff · 10/01/2021 08:12

It's not all bad news - if news it be - the Mail reports Ms Symond's mother has moved in to help with the baby. God pays debts without money, as they sayGrin

wigornian · 10/01/2021 08:24

Because this is MN, largely a left wing echo chamber.

Basecamp65 · 10/01/2021 08:24

I have met Boris on a couple of dozen occasions- he lived round the corner from my workplace and used the same local shop.

He is without doubt the most exquisitely polite person I have ever met.

His morals and values make him a complete c*

lovelemoncurd · 10/01/2021 08:35

I can't be arsed to read or watch news and form my own opinion!

You are brain dead op. I can't be bothered to tell you and I'm not sure you could even process the response!
