Just that really. I neither like nor dislike him I don't feel any emotion towards him.
AIBU to ask why so many people on here hate/dislike Boris Johnson?

Nobody ever seems to hold Tories or their voters to account, it's always somebody else's fault I think the key word there is "seems".

People do indeed hold the Conservatives to account. They would punish them more if there was a credible alternative. That is my point. Labour haven't presented a credible alternative since the Blair years. And of course the lefties detest Blair.

I realise this will be a very unpopular thing to say on this forum but the truth is : when the Conservatives act like actual conservatives they tend to win large majorities. When they do a May / Cameron, by which I mean : taking a centrist, globalist position, thinking they have to be liked by the left -- they struggle.

Jaypreen · 09/01/2021 16:39

does anyone actually know anything Corbyn actually did that was actually anti-Semitic?

Is this a serious question?

1Logan1 · 09/01/2021 16:40

How can we trust him to run the country when he can't even comb his hair ??

MrsMiaWallis · 09/01/2021 16:40

@TheBuffster

While we are on the subject does anyone actually know anything Corbyn actually did that was actually anti-Semitic? Genuinely don't know as every time I ask I get: He said a painting was good. He doesn't support Jewish people in Palestine debate (er aren't politicians meant to be neutral?) There's anti-Semitism in the labour party. I imagine there is. There's a lot of misogyny too but no-one ever cares about that. I'll admit labour have lost their way. But that doesn't really excuse this sh** show caused by a conservative prime minister does it?
God, move on. He was anti-semitic and an investigation proved it.
Jaypreen · 09/01/2021 16:45

No it was all a Tory smear campaign didn't you know?

As was his support for the PIRA as they were murdering his fellow citizens. All a smear and a conspiracy.

cliftonbear · 09/01/2021 16:46

He poisoned our water supply, burned our crops and delivered a plague unto our houses!

Ugh. He was repulsive

@jasjas1973

But Clav you have inadvertently shown us one of the problems with Bojo, he has no principals, he'll support (or be against) any cause that helps his favourite one... that of Johnson himself.

He doubtless does support gay pride etc but he is more than willing to write/say the exact opposite if it wins him applause.

He never wanted to leave the EU, as mayor he wrote that the eu has helped build London into one of the worlds leading financial centers, he decided on backing Leave as that helped him, he didn't expect to win, that much was true!

As Heseltine said of him "Boris waits to see 'the way the crowd is running' then dashes in front'"
and that sums up his handling of CV, he is waiting, looking to see what the public will tolerate and then choses that option.

Very true.

And yet once he's got there he can't read the room even if it has subtitles.

zolazarola · 09/01/2021 17:00

I dislike him because I have morals.

itsgettingweird · 09/01/2021 17:08

@Clavinova

UrAWizHarry

Elected to Parliament for the first time in 2001, Johnson rebelled against his own party on several occasions to back LGBT+ rights measures.

Defying the Conservative leadership at the time, Johnson voted in 2003 to abolish Section 28, which banned the “promotion” of homosexuality in schools, and voted in 2004 to permit civil partnerships for same-sex couples.

While attending the event in 2010, Johnson became the highest-ranking Conservative to come out in support of marriage equality in an interview with PinkNews.

He told PinkNews: “If the Conservatives and Liberals can get together in a national coalition and settle their differences, I don’t see why you can’t have gay marriage.

Two years later, he backed the Out4Marriage campaign calling on the government to pass equal marriage, adding: “I see absolutely no reason why that happy state should be denied to anybody in our country and that’s why I am supporting the Out4Marriage campaign.”

According to his social record of voting he's never voted on allowing marriage between 2 people of the same sex.

Did vote for equal gay rights though.

And generally voted against law for equality and human rights.

Jaypreen · 09/01/2021 17:10

If only we could all be like you zolazarola !

Calmandmeasured1 · 09/01/2021 17:10

Not everyone hates him. I don't. I don't hate anyone, irrespective of whether I agree with them or not.

itsgettingweird · 09/01/2021 17:10

The interesting one is that he's almost always voted for more automy for schools.

Shame he didn't have that conversation with Gavla before allowing him to threaten legal action when the schools took autonomy in an unsafe environment!

Jaypreen · 09/01/2021 17:13

Calmandmeasured1 well said

Clavinova · 09/01/2021 17:15

London Mayor so not an MP at the time? Although he backed the campaign?

MrsPernicious · 09/01/2021 17:19

The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.

Mr Johnson lies, he lies big and keeps repeating it, many of the people believe him. He has read the handbook.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/01/2021 17:21

He’s closer to being a Little Britten character than a real person.

Would you say that it is unique amongst the English political leaders to rely on "thick-headedness" ?
Jaypreen · 09/01/2021 17:25

I take it that this is also reference to thick headedness Mummyoflittledragon ?

BTW it's Britain.

motherrunner · 09/01/2021 17:27

I’m a teacher. He’s a Tory. Enough said.

He may have backed the campaign but it's actual votes that count.

I could bleat on and on about agreeing we should boycott nestle - but unless I actually do it .......

SausageCrush · 09/01/2021 17:33

I don't hate him.
I am not a big fan of politicians in general, but almost feel sorry for him, having to deal with all the virus stuff.
I don't think any of the other parties would have done better, for all their rhetoric.

Onlinedilema · 09/01/2021 17:39

I think some people have their head firmly in the sand. Even if they will be disadvantaged after leaving the EU they will still think Boris did a good job.
Ask them to explain what positive deals he has negotiated and what will they say?
Criticise him and all you get is ‘Well labour wouldn’t be any better.’
It’s bloody stupid . It’s like when your child moans about how much better their friends mum is cos Johnny has 6 Alexas, plus 6 iPhones, plus he can play on his Xbox until 6am and he can wear his crocs to school and he can have a dog. He can also drink Coke and eat pizza all day every day, and you are a rubbish mum cos you asked him to put his dirty clothes in the wash basket. Johnny’s mum does make him do that blah blah blah.

Jaypreen · 09/01/2021 17:43

I agree with much of that SausageCrush . Particularly your last point. Johnson' has qualities that is for sure. But they've haven't shone in this crisis. His reaction to this C19 business has been stop-start, and tended to follow events and opinion rather than lead them.

Hollybutnoivy · 09/01/2021 17:50

I am not a big fan of politicians in general, but almost feel sorry for him, having to deal with all the virus stuff.

I almost feel sorry for him and then I remember that he has surrounded himself with a cabinet purely because they are pro-Boris despite a lot of them having a very poor record both politically and morally. He is in power. He is not very good at leadership. The least he could do in this situation is to appoint people with a track record of expertise. Instead he prefers incompetence and cruelty as he has prioritised his own political career over the health and safety of the nation.
