.. to think that Stanley Johnson getting the jab tells you everything you need to know about these clowns?

For a government that values "optics" far higher than actual competence or delivery, thus feels like a misstep. He wasn't following the rules before, now he's going to unstoppable (and smug too).

Meanwhile millions of NHS staff, teachers and others carry on doing their work on the front line unvaccinated and lots of others in Stanley's age group who got a first dose are being asked to wait for their second so others can have their first dose.

All of the over 80s in my family are having their second dose this week - not everywhere has changed the second dose guidance - if they were told they were having it, many trusts / CCGs have gone ahead and honoured that.

I am CEV and from the dates I have been given it looks like I will not have to wait twelve weeks between vaccines either, which does not make sense because I am advised to shield until all groups have been vaccinated since so I don't see why I cannot wait 12 weeks for the second dose!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 08/01/2021 10:21

@steppemum they are in Medway. They were surprised to be offered it so quickly but jumped at the chance. They have their appointment cards for the second jab and I’m sure FIL said it was at the end of January.

rwalker · 08/01/2021 10:22

Some health auth have decide to do 2nd dose this is nothing to do with inequalities .
He's on the list like everyone else struggling to see the problem or are we suggesting we don't vacinante people some people don't like .
My 80 year old mum is more than happy to delay 2nd dose and thinks it's the right thing to do .

Unsure33 · 08/01/2021 10:23

it would be more of an issue if he was not having it when offered.

I really don't get your point.

my dad is 90 and has not had his yet apparently because he is immobile. Hopefully the oxford jab will change that .

Unsure33 · 08/01/2021 10:24

btw - some frontline workers have had their vaccinations .

its happening every day .

another post trying to make a political point of a pandemic .

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/01/2021 10:25

@twistedsistersocks

I understand your gut reaction, I'd leave them to rot too, BUT then if they do get it, they put prison staff at risk & they'll have to go to hospital & waste a bed & hospital staff and quite literally oxygen! Better to vaccinate them for the good of OTHERS.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/01/2021 10:29

Frankly, that twat having 2 doses probably protects a lot more people than someone else getting their first dose.

Backbee · 08/01/2021 10:34

Yes it should do, thankfully. The Pfizer jab is very unstable and aside from the storage issue, it can only be moved a few times which logistically is a nightmare. The Oxford jab will be so much easier to transport as it isn't bound by the same restrictions, so fingers crossed he will be contacted soon :)

Theluggage15 · 08/01/2021 10:34

My 89 year old father had his second dose a couple of days after they announced the new 12 week regime. The medical centre told him when he asked that it was much better for them to carry out all previously booked second appointments and then change to the 12 week gap for all new appointments.

He said he felt guilty but I told him not to be so daft!

LakieLady · 08/01/2021 10:35

@daisypond

I don’t know any over-80s who have been offered any vaccine at all yet. Perhaps it’s postcode lottery.
I agree.

MIL (82 and very fit) is getting her first jab on Saturday. A neighbour is also getting hers, despite being only 42 and fit, because she works in a dental surgery ... as a bookeeper, 2 days a week, never goes near a patient and has been WFH since lockdown 1, except for 3 occasions when she had to go in for a couple of hours. This is in Greater London.

Friend in rural Suffolk (non-driver) who works in a care home had to decline an appointment as it was 40 miles away and so late in the evening she couldn't have got home by public transport. None of the care home residents where she works have been vaccinated and only a handful of the staff. The few staff that have been "done" live in the neighbouring NHS trust area.

Friend's mum, 93, and 2 neighbours, both well over 80, in W & E Sussex respectively, have heard nothing, neither has friend, who is CEV and is carer for her mum.

I think it's absolutely a postcode lottery.

Charlottejbt · 08/01/2021 10:38

I can't honestly get excited by someone who is entitled to the vaccine having the vaccine. I thought it was more telling, the story about him going for French citizenship after Brexit.

He's entitled to that too, I'm afraid.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/01/2021 10:41

So the OP and others actually think the government is able to micromanage vaccinations well enough to prioritise SJ? ShockHmmGrin

ancientgran · 08/01/2021 10:47

I think he was on GMTV this morning, I didn't see it but I heard the announcers saying they had explained the rules to him as he didn't know them. Not sure what he didn't know.

Lockheart · 08/01/2021 10:53

He's was pro-remain and campaigned against his son in the EU referendum. I don't think his application for French citizenship is hypocritical or surprising.

As for the vaccine, he's of the right age and eligible, I don't see why he shouldn't have it.

I'm no fan of Boris and I think Stanley has been spectacularly stupid going abroad / not wearing masks etc during the pandemic but I don't think he's doing anything wrong in this instance. Which is unusual.

WelcomeToTierFive · 08/01/2021 10:55

He is 80....

Hobbesmanc · 08/01/2021 10:56

Of course it's a post code lottery. Its a huge logistical programme- the biggest vaccine roll out in history. And some Local Authorities, GP practices, NHS Trusts etc are going to be better prepared than others.

Supply is evolving daily and the challenges of coordinating this when the whole country is lock down must be a nightmare. So far the UK's management of covid has been totally woeful. But the Vaccination programme could be a highlight

We have one of the highest rates of vaccination per head in the world and a guarateed supply. Someone in procuremtn has got a decent deal.

One in four over eighties is already done. And this group are one of the hardest to coordinate- so thats something to celebrate. Of course this means that 75% arent done (including my dad and in- laws) but I'm optimistic they will be soon.

And some teams are still giving second jabs post 4 weeks. Our local NHS Trust is. Presumably they were concerned that rescheduling would be complex and confusing.

I'm feeling hopeful

Abraxan · 08/01/2021 10:59

@RoganJosh

I think many people haven’t read the OP properly.

He’s getting his SECOND dose. After 21 days. Everyone has had their second dose delayed to 12 weeks.

This is incorrect. Many people are still getting their second vaccine as planned. Many clinics and GPs have stuck to the original vaccine plan for a range of reasons.

Now if you can find another 80 year old using the same GP/clinic as him, who has had their vaccine delayed you may have a point.

BigWoollyJumpers · 08/01/2021 11:01

I know many, many, over 80's who have had their first dose, and going in for second dose this week. It really depends on where you are, and more importantly how mobile you are. The PB jabs are being done out of hospitals and a few hubs, therefore you have to be able to get to them under your own steam (or someone has to take you). So the people I know who have had them, have gone into main hospital hubs. Others, like DM in a care home, and DMil who is ECV and house bound, haven't yet had theirs.

Take a chill pill OP, you sound petty.

alreadytaken · 08/01/2021 11:04

He is 80 - but when 90 year old havent had the jab yet publicising this is wrong.

Yes.

RaspberryCoulis · 08/01/2021 11:04

80 year old man gets vaccine. That makes the government "clowns"?

Righty-o.

luxxlisbon · 08/01/2021 11:06

The reality is isn't anything to do with him or Boris.

I actually don't think this current gov give a shit about optics or they wouldn't have done things like defend cummings to the grave, open schools for a single day etc.

He is in one of the top vulnerable categories. Almost 1.5M people have already been vaccinated and the roll out has already started in the NHS too.

You are outrageous over nothing in this particular instance.

thenightsky · 08/01/2021 11:07

Yes, him buggering off to live in France post-Brexit is a more interesting story.
cushioncovers · 08/01/2021 11:11

I don't get what the issue is? he's elderly he's getting a vaccine he might well have health issues that we don't know about.

Omemiserum · 08/01/2021 11:13

My aunt in London is 93 and hasn't heard a thing about getting it.
