@IamTomHanks
But didn't something like this happen in the summer? I'm not talking about the BLM protestors, I'm talking about trumps far right troops getting uncomfortably close. I wasnt really following as I say, but I remember seeing a picture where they'd infiltrated something or gotten uncomfortably close.

So why the hell wouldnt you assume it would happen again?

Sorry but none of it makes sense to me.
And how EXACTLY is Biden responsible for security provision?

What magic power has he enacted?

Do enlighten me with your bullshit

Roussette · 07/01/2021 09:28

borntobequiet

So agree with your post. There are many on these threads who have been here since 'claig' days, hence this being thread no. 117.

What happened yesterday is not a surprise. We have been here daily on these threads, posting, watching, commenting, dissecting, discussing. If I had to write an end to the Trump story, this would have been it. So why in god's name security forces and others could not have predicted this happening, god alone knows.

CrotchBurn · 07/01/2021 09:28

Okay fine: sure, I'm a conspiracy theorist. One of the worlds most powerful, military friendly and gun happy countries, following a summer of violence and hugely tense presidential election, just happened to take a really casual approach to a protest organised by a complete nut job.

That obviously makes way more sense!

Lweji · 07/01/2021 09:28

Heard the news on the radio, just as I was arriving at work. Yay!

IamTomHanks · 07/01/2021 09:30

I'm talking about trumps far right troops getting uncomfortably close.

You mean when they stood on the Capitol Building steps with their massive assault rifles to protest wearing masks? That was a fucking tea party compared to this.

Lweji · 07/01/2021 09:31

TBH, I think what happened was a good thing. It showed Trump for what he is, and what his supporters are capable of. No excuses of being repressed, or of any significant violence against them that would warrant more violence and anger.

When it comes to the Inauguration, though, I do hope the security forces will be more prepared and ready for decisive action.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 07/01/2021 09:31

What were the police on Capitol Hill supposed to do? Open fire? Think about how the extreme elements would have reacted to the police doing that. It had the potential to be a bloodbath.

Until they had overwhelming numbers they had few options that wouldn’t make the situation worse. The noisy but harmless element would likely drift off as they got cold and hungry. That would leave the hardcore protesters who could be dealt with more robustly.

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 09:31

...why didn't the police and national guard show up on time, and in a way that was coordinated?

What do you mean by the term 'the police'?

There are 105 federal law enforcement agencies.

Not all 105 federal law enforcement agencies have anything to do with DC, but the District of Columbia has a large number of different law enforcement and security jurisdictions all the same. Control of the various agencies with a direct role in DC does not lie in the same hands. It is very possible that communication among them isn't what it should be where the District of Columbia is concerned.

There is the District itself, the City, whose mayor is currently Muriel Bowser. DC has its own police, who serve and protect its citizens and also patrol marches, etc.

There is the Department of the Interior and its police. The D of I runs the many national monuments and provides security for them.

The Capitol Hill police fall under the remit of Congress. Their sole duty is the protection of the Houses of Congress, Congressional parks and thoroughfares in DC and in some other locations.

There is the Dept of Homeland Security and also the FBI.

borntobequiet · 07/01/2021 09:31

You sound like a fascist.

Hahahahaha.

I mean, hahahahaha. WTF?

CrotchBurn · 07/01/2021 09:32

Oh my god!!! Sorry I totally see why people think I'm a conspiracy theorist!!!

I hadnt realised that in the US elected presidents have to wait for a while before they have power. I thought Biden already had power. That's why I couldn't understand why he would have been so lax on security here.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Sorry guys 😂

RedToothBrush · 07/01/2021 09:32

Cable ties.

QAnon have been encouraging military style executions of 'traitors'.

Its a fantasy. Thats why these people turned up in full military gear (as trump has encouraged the growth of milita 'to protect law and order' - a euphemism for arm yourselves against blacks).

They want to execute a congressman. And post it on the internet. Like other extremists do.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 07/01/2021 09:32

Agree with @borntobequiet and @Roussette.
I've been amazed at how civil it has been most of the time on these threads but I suppose the odd slanging match on here now reflects the deterioration of civilized behaviour we have seen in the country whose politics we have been discussing here over the past few years.

Lweji · 07/01/2021 09:32

I think it was a double effort with both trump and Biden working together to stage it, as it works to both their advantages.

GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Are you mad?

RedToothBrush · 07/01/2021 09:33

So youve got nothing. And think what youve just posted is a joke.

Sorry thats appalling.

prettybird · 07/01/2021 09:33

Ignore him - he's not worth engaging with. (Not even going to do my usual "Him or her" if I'm not sure about a posterWink) He's just getting off on people reacting to him. The username is probably a clue Hmm

This will be my only reaction but serves as a useful placemark on this thread. Smile

Songsofexperience · 07/01/2021 09:33

I think yesterday is proof that the bile spewed on extremist right forums has spread like a cancer in the last 5 years (won't call them alt right because that's just their branding to make you think they're acceptable). They've been obsessed with the break up of the US. They won't stop. They should be treated like the terrorists they are.

Roussette · 07/01/2021 09:33

"Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews, First Lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff Stephanie Grisham, and White House social secretary Rickie Niceta submitted their resignations on Wednesday night, two weeks before president-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration"

Why aren't there more? I wonder what Melania is up to also

Kendodd · 07/01/2021 09:35

Just been over to Leave EU to see what they think.
Lots of posts saying it was staged and BLM and George Soros were behind the protests. Lots of posts actually condemning the violence as well though. They usually love Trump on that site.

HypocrisyDoubleStandardsMess · 07/01/2021 09:35

@mathanxiety

What is the fucking point of a curfew if there are hundreds of them still there wandering around? When it was BLM march they started arresting people after the curfew

Well clearly, angry white men get the benefit of the doubt.

It's The American Way.

And white women. Don't forget there are also women rioters there.
Igotjelly · 07/01/2021 09:35

Hopefully the fact we're living through a pandemic will allow for a nice safe inauguration perhaps fone virtually....

IamTomHanks · 07/01/2021 09:35

One of the worlds most powerful, military friendly and gun happy countries, following a summer of violence and hugely tense presidential election, just happened to take a really casual approach to a protest organised by a complete nut job.

You're not wrong in wondering about that.

It does seem like security was ridiculously light given that its been obvious for awhile that Trump was inciting his minions to violence.

But Biden had nothing to do with setting security at Capitol Hill last night, because he has no power right now.

The "burden" lies on the shoulders of whoever was in charge of security. If it was the Secret Service, then the burden is on Trump and his cabinet.

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 09:36

But did you see that performance in Congress after the domestic terrorists invaded the Capitol building, mathanxiety? Many Republicans carried on trying to abnegate the votes of the Electoral College whilst continuing to pretend they believe the election results are fraudulent and illegal this time round.

Yes, I saw that disgusting spectacle.

All of that needs to stop, and the people to put it to rest are the GOP leadership. They were happy to ride the Tea Party wave and then hop on the Trump bandwagon. Now it is time for them to fix the disaster they contributed to.

Roussette · 07/01/2021 09:36

CrotchBurn not being funny here, but you really really can't be that ignorant surely.
Have you heard the term President Elect?

Did you know there is an inauguration in a couple of weeks and at midday there is transference of the office of POTUS from Trump to Biden?
With all due respect, you cannot for one minute think Biden was in charge of troops, police and security forces yesterday????

Lweji · 07/01/2021 09:36

I was under the impression that the FBI entered the building later on, more discreetly, and probably made most of the arrests indoors, of those who did invade it. I remember a picture of a few of them face down on the ground at some point.

Outside, people were herded to a safe distance.

Songsofexperience · 07/01/2021 09:37

Just been over to Leave EU to see what they think.

Leave EU is from the same gutter. Those fuckers want to drag the UK down the same shit strewn path.
