@Rahrahgurl

I'm sorry but you cannot argue that BLM protestors did not get a more violent and aggressive response from law enforcement, as well as more fatalities while unarmed.

If the same analogous situation applied, heavily unarmed BLM protestors on storming the Capitol- I sincerely doubt the police would have been as measured in their approach and we would be looking at the shooting of only one American civilian.

Their current approach is one they should apply indiscriminately to everyone. There is an obvious bias in their response here

They did get a more violent response, because they were much more violent protests.

Also Washington is an open carry state so they can't be shot for being armed its "legal"

Which was more violent today or The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone?

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 04:24

Are you saying that this was just one big selfie op, @Sinful8?

They only wanted to go inside the Capitol and take some selfies?

Those who can be identified - and thankfully hundreds of them chose to make the political point of not wearing masks - are facing a long list of felony charges.

Mothership4two · 07/01/2021 04:24

There are unconfirmed reports (reported by BBC News) that US Cabinet members may be having discussions about removing Trump by vote of the majority of the Cabinet or he could be impeached before or after his term.

Personally I think they should throw the book at him

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 04:27

Today's events were far more violent and the violence was far more significant, @Sinful8, unless you consider a threat to democracy less of a problem than the breaking of glass in a storefront.

TheTangoTerrorIsTerrifying · 07/01/2021 04:29

@Sinful8 - Are you part of Trump’s delusional inner circle?

Rahrahgurl · 07/01/2021 04:41

The police incited violence by storming and antagonising people standing in the street with placards. There are videos of police forcefully pushing back UNARMED protestors for standing, sitting and even doing FUCKING YOGA - because they "feared for their lives".

But the police ushered ARMED protestors in today- suddenly zero fears about their lives and happily taking selfies.

The delusion is fucking unbelievable. I always think surely no-one actually thinks these things and someone like you always comes to remind me we have a long way to go

Delphinium20 · 07/01/2021 04:42

Seriously @Sinful8 you have zero idea what's going on.
Washington D.C. is not a state. It's the District of Columbia.
Washington D.C. does not have open carry.
You should not be shot for holding a gun even in a state without open carry.
This was not a protest. It was an insurrection against the U.S. government.

D.C. police say 4 people died at the Capitol on Wednesday

Four people died during the violent protest at the Capitol, according to Metro D.C. police. One woman was shot by police, and three others died as a result of medical emergencies.

So far, more than 52 people have been arrested. Of those, 47 were related to curfew violations.

Law enforcement officials said they also found two pipe bombs, one at the Republican National Committee and one at the Democratic National Committee. A molotov cocktail was also found not far from the Capitol.

(From CBS news site.)

You probably think this is fake news apart from the bit about the woman who was shot, @Sinful8. Or that the explosives were planted by gnomes or some such mischief makers.

Rahrahgurl · 07/01/2021 04:45

Show me the police response for a black person walking openly armed in Washington state.

They shot a 12 year old Black boy Tamir Rice for holding a toy replica gun in Cleveland, Ohio an open carry state that surprises surprise, played host to anti-mask demonstrations last year with ARMED protestors carrying rifles and freely walking about.

Open carry is for only one demographic of the country let's be honest

Rahrahgurl · 07/01/2021 04:46

Washington DC which does not even have open carry.

Now going through the state certifications in alphabetical order, having disposed of the complaint about Arizona's certified results.

A buffoon from GA now contesting the certification on grounds that the GA secretary of state moved the goalposts. Pence shoots him down on grounds that the objection has no standing. On to Hawaii...

D.C. Mayor extends public emergency for 15 days

Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Wednesday night that she is extending the city's emergency declaration for another 15 days, citing the violence earlier in the day from Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol.

"They have fired chemical irritants, bricks, bottles, and guns. They have breached the security of the Capitol and their destructive and riotous behavior has the potential to spread beyond the Capitol. Their motivation is ongoing," Bowser said in a statement.

Bowser also noted that it is likely "some persons" will continue to protest violently through inauguration day on January 20.

From the CBS website.

Presumably Mayor Bowser has made this decision in consultation with police and security officials both local and Federal, and it is based on credible intelligence.

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 05:01

Another Georgia rep stands up to contest the result, this time Michigan's.

Pence blows a raspberry at her.

On to Minnesota.

psychomath · 07/01/2021 05:12

I saw some livestream footage from within the mob earlier and the majority didn't exactly look like people with a master plan. Once they were inside there was a lot of random milling about, nobody seemed to have any objectives and the police were easily able to herd them out again. Some expert pointed out that after a few hours most of them would be freezing, hungry and needing the toilet, and correctly predicted that a majority would be dispersed without any real trouble because they'd want to go home anyway by that point.

I wonder how many people turned up expecting to shout a bit and maybe throw some things, not really believing that they'd get anywhere, and then got caught up in the moment when the leaders managed to break into the building. Only to be shitting themselbes now, as the adrenaline wears off and they hear everyone using words like 'sedition' and 'domestic terrorism'. It would explain why lots seemed surprisingly unprepared, letting their uncovered faces appear on camera and uploading incriminating footage to their own youtube channels. Granted they're clearly not the brightest bulbs in the box anyway, but most people who intentionally set out to commit crimes that carry a lengthy prison sentence would at least think to hide their face.

Not that I think they deserve sympathy, mind - I hope they get the book thrown at them.

TomatoesAreFruit · 07/01/2021 05:51

I heard on Times Radio yesterday evening that some of the insurgents/protesters were bused in on buses organised by the republican party.

This means some infrastructure was in place to support these protests by the governing party. I think that's why so few covered their faces and tnere were so many selfies.

It is just a terrible awful mess and I worry about inauguration day. Maybe the only good thing about this is that I really think that this is the end for Trump. I dont think he can come back for this.

mathanxiety · 07/01/2021 06:02

PA certification now being discussed, in the House. GA woman hopping mad...

Zug2 · 07/01/2021 06:24

I hope they find some Legal way to prevent him using the title President for the rest of his life. .

SimonJT · 07/01/2021 06:29

Three died of medical emergencies, I wonder what that specifically means.

HeronLanyon · 07/01/2021 06:35

Does anyone else every now and then think we are living through some kind of bizarre alternative reality/game being played by others ?? Please believe this is not at all some kind of odd conspiracy thing Grin but so much that’s going on is so unreal and unimaginable I have difficulty taking it all in. Rather desperate to get to the point where we can look back and think ‘f hell we got through that!’

frumpety · 07/01/2021 06:41

I wondered the same thing @SimonJT.

HeronLanyon · 07/01/2021 06:44

simonJT well just looked up (hadn’t heard of it). That’s my viewing sorted for a bit - series 1 looks good !!

Wonder how many episodes series 2 will have - seems already to be much longer in production than 6 episodes - will look forward to the release date. Grin

Is it Rep. Mike Doyle from Allegheny County PA? Excellent speech whoever it is.

Disgraceful interruptions by a shouting Trump supporter, who is thrown out by Nancy Pelosi.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2021 06:50

I can't even find the words anymore.
