To cringe when people over describe their food?

Lighthearted Grin

“What did you have for lunch?”

“Oh I had soft scrambled eggs on crusty bakery sourdough, topped off with sun blushed vine tomatoes and a sprinkling of cracked black pepper”

So you had egg and tomato on toast then Grin.

I get the similar cringe when people describe having toast with “lashings of butter” Envy or a cake with “oodles of cream”.

Anyone else? Grin

Omg. I have a mum friend who does this and it enrages me. She tries to do it with my fussy daughter to try and encourage her to eat more. ‘Try this crisp lettuce, it’s so crunchy, light and fresh’. Argh. It’s good to vent about this. Or ‘what about this deliciously juicy mango, it’s really creamy and tasty’. Argh. Help me. I just want to tell her to shut up, fortunately my daughter takes no notice!

@Chestnut23

When people finish off their description with an Homer Simpson style drool.
Oh Christ, my mum does this constantly, but she hasn't watched the Simpsons for a long time and it's gradually morphed into something that bears no resemblance to what he actually does. It's extremely unnerving.

Yeah I hate that emoji too it always makes me think it's an orgasm face and it kind of disgusts me.

"Lovely scrummy scrambled tofu lunch. Nom 🤤"

I live in an affluent area, and what bugs me is how much the local cafes charge for this basic food. An egg on a slice of sourdough should not cost £8 ... even if it is topped with spinach!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/01/2021 17:07

If it's just egg, spinach and slicd of bread, I would tend to agree that £8 may ve tad too much, but.
Wages for staff, including chefs, cleaners, waiters. Servicing of equipment. Insurance. Rent (some are incredibly high). Business rates. VAT. and trillion other little costs need to be covered.
If it's affluent area, I would expect a rent to be high.

I think you may mean ‘eggs florentine’ bloody and because it has a name and ‘forrin’ at that, that surely justifies a doubling of price ?? Grin
