Currently suffering with red, sore skin on face; mainly around mouth and under nasal folds. It's caused by being out in the freezing cold and probably the central heating too. It's unsightly and painful.

Can any recommend a speedy, healing balm?

The unreasonable part is...am I unreasonable for using Aibu for traffick?

I've had a similar, long-standing, issue with sore skin on my face - this stuff has cleared it up brilliantly. They started making balms for horses then moved onto dogs and humans (the dog version is great as well). It's all natural ingredients - keep in the fridge to stay solid, I put it on as needed but try to remember to do it every night.

For a quick fix tonight spread some manuka honey on your face and leave it on as long as possible before washing off. It will calm it.

Cicaplast or magic cream as we call it. Nothing better.

Middleagedmidwife · 04/01/2021 21:05

Lyon’s leaf zinc and calendula balm is amazing for dermatitis around nose and mouth. I had really sore red patches ? From masks at work. Cleared it up in days

Loccitane shea butter range is lovely, or try Neal's yard baby protective balm (not the nappy cream version, there's two that sound similar).

Not sexy but slapping on sudocreme at night ismthe only thing that works for me.

Northernmummy80 · 04/01/2021 21:23

We use Nivea but the dark blue tub as it’s really thick and great on the face overnight

OlympicProcrastinator · 04/01/2021 21:24

I’m sure I’ll have people say it’s totally unsuitable, but I use Norwegian formula concentrated hand cream on my face

Oh same! I thought I was the only one. Brilliant isn’t it?

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 04/01/2021 21:27

Child’s farm baby moisturizer. Big bottle for a fiver. We call it the magic cream. DS’s face goes like yours, this stuff sorts it right out. It’s the only thing that’s stops my hands getting red and bleeding (NHS+pandemic+cold) and I’ve tried every hand cream under the sun.

DidgeDoolittle · 04/01/2021 21:27

I agree with the cicaplast baume. It's the only thing that stops the dry skin round my mouth from splitting in the cold weather. It's genius stuff.

Cherrysoup · 04/01/2021 21:28

O’Keeffes or anything else with urea.

OhWhyNot · 04/01/2021 21:29

I use vitamin e oil (that isn’t perfumed I like Jason)

And Aveeno the body lotion for very dry skin I find is fine on my face

Honestly don’t know what I’d do without it! Delighted I’m not the only weirdo 😁

I get chapped skin every winter, it’s just coming back now. I use Eight Hour Cream and/or Aveeno.

TroublesomeTrucks · 04/01/2021 21:35

Elemis SOS Emergency cream

ShastaBeast · 04/01/2021 21:39

Steroid cream. I burnt my skin with other skincare products and it helped heal the skin fast. Then use whatever suits your skin, E45 maybe but it could cause an outbreak in some so hard to recommend something specific.

Pop into the pharmacy or the GP if it doesn’t clear after that. It’s possibly eczema due to the cold.

Franticbutterfly · 04/01/2021 21:40

I know it's universally hated on here, but I get reactions to products/environments etc, and I stick Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream on it. Really helps. Also La Roche Posay Cicaplast baume and the lips one is good as well.

Justcallmebebes · 04/01/2021 21:41

E45. Cheap and brilliant

tattychicken · 04/01/2021 21:47

Blue Nivea.

Fungster · 04/01/2021 21:51

@Laissonslesjoliesfemmes

La Roche-Posay cicaplast baume. It's miraculous, especially with frequent application. Also always on offer at places like Escentual, Feel Unique etc.
I was going to suggest the same thing. It's miraculous stuff.
whoamongstus · 04/01/2021 21:52

Another vote for Cicaplast Baume, it soothed and rescued my retinol burned skin.

SophieB100 · 04/01/2021 21:52

Astral or Nivea (the proper creams in the blue tubs) are both excellent.
Or Sudocreme - let it soak in overnight.

Opaljewel · 04/01/2021 22:05

I really want to suggest a cruelty free but aveeno is amazing. And it doesn't sting on anything sore. If anyone knows a cruelty free alternative to aveeno please pm me!

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 04/01/2021 22:07

Weleda skin food is the absolute bollocks.

travailtotravel · 04/01/2021 22:11

This is a job for nivea in the big blue tub, surely. And before you go out can you pop some vaseline on as a barrier?
