Really Intense Moisturiser For Sore Face

QuiteGood · 04/01/2021 20:34

Currently suffering with red, sore skin on face; mainly around mouth and under nasal folds. It's caused by being out in the freezing cold and probably the central heating too. It's unsightly and painful.

Can any recommend a speedy, healing balm?

The unreasonable part is...am I unreasonable for using Aibu for traffick?

Skin Food (in the penny sale at H&B at the mo)
Nivea blue tub
Astral
Norwegian Formula (I have both the hand cream and the body in the 400ml bottles and use both on dry sore faces)

Be careful of the "ezcema" products as many of them actually are designed to dry out skin.

Aldi's Miracle Cream is amazing, it's a thick orange balm and costs about £4.

TwoleftUggs · 04/01/2021 22:17

The original Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream. I see lots of people already recommended it. It’s brilliant. My face gets so sore in the cold weather.

TheRogueApostrophe · 04/01/2021 22:18

@Laissonslesjoliesfemmes

La Roche-Posay cicaplast baume. It's miraculous, especially with frequent application. Also always on offer at places like Escentual, Feel Unique etc.
I came here to say this (but was pleased that someone else said it because I couldn't remember what it was called!). My whole face was once red raw when I suffered an allergic reaction to a product. The skin experts on the health and beauty board (they're amazing over there) recommended cicaplast baume and it provided instant relief. I love it.

@TheSpottedZebra

Some people hate it, but 8hr cream is excellent for me for this.

Are you sensitive to anything, eg alcohol in skincare?
What us the rest of your routine?

8 hour cream is brilliant on anything red and sore, even sunburn.

A friend swears by it for her psoriasis.

Eucerin aquaphor is a great product which acts as a barrier over another moisturiser ad it seals it. I use it on a few patches of dry skin and it works a treat. On cracked heels too.

QuiteGood · 04/01/2021 22:32

Oh gosh i wasn’t expecting so many replies. The skin is also partly like this due to tretinoin, as well as the cold, etc as a pp has mentioned. I’ve been putting diprobase on tonight & have sudocrem in, so might try that too tonight. Cicaplast Baume has been mentioned lots on this thread so will order that and work my way through all of them, if it doesn’t work. I could do with a barrier cream when I go out but i don’t know which one to use. I don’t react well to Vaseline.

Body shop hemp hand moisturiser/protector

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 04/01/2021 22:53

Vaseline overnight, then something nice during the day I use Aldi Q10. If you are heading out into the cold wind, put a thin layer on the exposed areas that are getting chapped.

Quinque · 04/01/2021 23:13

Such a useful thread, I'm watching with interest. Please don't use steroid creams on your face as recommended by a pp. They thin the skin and can cause permanent damage.

Sciurus83 · 04/01/2021 23:24

Came to add another vote for La Roche Post Cicaplast

Jarline · 04/01/2021 23:26

Echoing the rest - Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream. It's a miracle in a tube.

Yellownotblue · 04/01/2021 23:26

Clarins Super Restorative day cream works for me.

Slimerecipehell · 04/01/2021 23:30

Pure coconut oil! I use it to take make up off at night and then as a moisturiser in the morning. Have very dry, sensitive skin and it’s been amazing, as well as clearing my eczema, also it’s only about £2.99 from a supermarket and lasts months!

TaraR2020 · 04/01/2021 23:31

I suffer with this :/ light layer of sudacrem overnight helps the soreness and then for restoring hydration, after much experimentation, I use a light layer of rosehip oil followed by a light layer of Lush's dream cream overnight. I've found this is the most effective approach for my super sensitive skin and it works quickly.

Good luck!

TaraR2020 · 04/01/2021 23:32

*I should have said I use sudacrem on the first night and the other once soreness has passed!

Smallinthesmoke · 04/01/2021 23:33

Avene will be good for this.

Yika · 04/01/2021 23:34

Bioderma Atoderm. Thick and unctuous and very effective as a protective barrier against cold.

213Milne · 04/01/2021 23:35

Salcura is good

AliTheMinx · 04/01/2021 23:38

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream - the stuff of dreams!

Lemonyfuckit · 04/01/2021 23:39

Another vote for La Roche Posay cicaplast balm (the cica is very healing) and Weleda skinfood.

Weirdly I sometimes get sports in the winter that are just red bumps (never come to a head - sorry for the TMI) that I think are caused by cold and take ages to disappear and a combination of cicaplast and some soothing / moisturising facial oil (so just lots of rich moisturiser) seems to help - sort of counterintuitive for a spot but does the trick.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 04/01/2021 23:46

I started using something called Kukui Oil by Connock London back in the summer - it's brilliant.
I got it largely because it was reduced to about £1.50 from over £30, and I'd gone away for the week & forgotten moisturiser, but it's amazing - just use a couple of squirts and rub it into my hands too, I'll definitely be replacing when I get through it,
A super rich and moisturising cleanser (which I've needed to use a lot less recently) is Ultrabland from Lush; I use it as a mask when I have a bath.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 05/01/2021 00:24

Ooh yes skinfood very good also, v protective. And some good heavy spf op if you're very sensitive, it's very cold at the moment.

shoesaregood · 05/01/2021 00:25

Ren overnight recovery balm. Or sudocrem if you have some to hand?
