to think if you're short you can't enjoy a good bath

Have always hated having baths. I make it all nice, get in, then spend an uncomfortable 15 mins lying on my back and slowly sliding into the bubbles until I'm underwater. So many books have wavy pages from my bath disasters.

I've since realised that the average person can brace their feet against the end of the bath, thus staying upright and have a relaxing soak without fear of drowning.

The thing is I'm not even that short (5'2'') and have always had average sized bathtubs, so am I missing some kind of essential bath life skill?

Short mumsnetters please do let me know Grin

4’11” here, we had the bathroom refitted a couple of years ago and I had a standard length double ended jacuzzi bath fitted which slopes at both ends, it’s bliss and definitely no slipping problems

redcandlelight · 04/01/2021 18:49

yabu
I'm 5.9 and have the choice between cold knees and cold shoulders.

I would love a bathtub the size of a floating tank!

BashfulClam · 04/01/2021 18:50

I’ 5’9” so can’t fit in comfortably. Either my shoulders are out or my knees.

Soontobe60 · 04/01/2021 18:51

Snap! I’m 5’2 and had a shorter bath fitted a few years ago - game changer!
I was staying at my DDs house last summer and decided to have a bath there. I nearly drowned and couldn't get out! She has an extra long extra deep bath with no means of pulling yourself up. I put some bubble bath in which turned out to have oil in it and whoosh, impossible to get out!

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/01/2021 18:53

I don't have that problem but my big hips rub off the edges of the bath. Its neither wide nor deep enough BOO 👎

honeybooboo1394 · 04/01/2021 19:01

@Butchyrestingface

I'm 5 foot 2 and would happily spend my whole life in the bath.
@Butchyrestingface me too
AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/01/2021 19:01

I’m 5’2 and something I’ve noticed about successful baths is making sure you don’t move your arse about once you’ve lay down in the tub. Seriously, if you make sure you hit the target of where you want your arse cheeks to be you’ll find they stick in place so you can lay back and relax. If you move about after that first initial sitting down then you’ve got no chance of staying above water.

Same height thereabouts. I love it. A bath may to stop quick skidding, I have to pop myself up again every few minutes though, and I can get my whole body in, boobs and all if it's deep. And still read!

dworky · 04/01/2021 19:10

Also if you're tall. You can't immerse your entire body.

EnterFunnyNameHere · 04/01/2021 19:28

It's not ideal being tall either - cold boobs or cold knees? YOU DECIDE! Smile

SkedaddIe · 04/01/2021 19:29

Yabu just use less water.

Tall people definitely get the short end of the stick when it comes to standard baths.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 04/01/2021 19:44

I'm 5ft 1 and a half and I've never had this problem. I can happily lay in the bath with my foot jammed at the end to stop me going under and either read or sleep. The lazy spa hot tub however I can't sit flat to the floor when the bubbles are on otherwise I end up with half my face submerged so I have to squat instead.

Littleposh · 04/01/2021 19:56

5 1 and never struggled

Stretchandsnap · 04/01/2021 20:00

I am 6’1 baths are a waste of time for me - cold shoulders, boobs and knees, I would love to have your problem Grin I have a dream of one day having a bath big enough to get wet all over

pelosi · 04/01/2021 20:06

I'm also 5'2" and haven't had this issue. Could you try a bath pillow?

Northernmummy80 · 04/01/2021 20:11

I wish! I have the opposite issue being tall, I can’t get the bath deep enough / there is always part of me out of the water so I get cold 🤣😂

KatieGGGG · 04/01/2021 20:17

I’ve found my people Grin You can get a bath shortener as PP have said but I’m going to try a bath mat now

Took · 04/01/2021 20:18

I'm 4’ 10” and love being able to lie full out in the bath. I can do the swishy hair thing and pretend I'm a mermaid. All while keeping all parts underwater and warm. Grin

ShetlandWife · 04/01/2021 20:19

Yep. This. 100%.
TheGirlWhoLived · 04/01/2021 20:21

I’m 5ft 1 and a half, I cross my legs in the bath which stops me whizzing away

purpleme12 · 04/01/2021 20:24

I am quite confused I'm shorter at 4 foot 11 and can reach the end. Only just but enough and I love baths
In fact if I was longer my legs might pop up so I might get cold!

planningaheadtoday · 04/01/2021 20:27

We have a tall but shorter bath, more like a deep tub. It's a perfect size for me (5'2).

I'd forgotten how bad normal baths are when I used one on holiday and once I'd relaxed I would be slipping under the water.

79andnotout · 04/01/2021 20:28

I'm 5'1" and either grip the plug end with my toes (there's a nozzle for letting the water out), bath stomach down, or sit sideways in the bath with my legs crossed.
