To wish Nicola Sturgeon was Prime Minister.

Just listening to her statement to the Scottish Parliament. I don’t want to debate her wider politics or the question of Scottish independence because that’s for the Scots to decide.
I’m just so impressed by her leadership and how clear and concise she is. There’s no waffle, no bluster. She’s just said Scotland is 4wks behind London so the time to act is now before they’re in the same position.

Her manner is just so factual and informative and if I was Scottish or lived in Scotland whether I agreed with her SNP politics or not, I’d be very glad she was my FM. She makes BJ look like an uneducated idiot who is neither responsible nor has the balls to take decisions before the effects are smacking him on the face.

It shows how bad Boris Johnson is that anyone would argue for Nicola Sturgeon to be PM, even though she is concise, articulate and press conferences are at a suitable time of day which considers business needs.

The best argument against Scottish independence is the SNP in my opinion.
@NellyJames give over with the Krankies comments, yawn, and actually contribute a meaningful comment. Like or dislike, either would be fine. But not that very tired unfunny comment. Hmm
Funny how it's perfectly acceptable for the left to make fun of Trump though.

toconclude · 04/01/2021 17:02

@cantdothisnow1

Her position on women's rights is problematic but she is decisive and speaks well.

Two characteristics that are not shared with our PM.

You mean she's not a transphobe? Good for her.
AuntyMabelandPippin · 04/01/2021 17:02

I don't like her, but she has handled this pandemic well. It helps we've been behind England and so she's been able to sort things quicker.

Her policies otherwise are bad. They changed a working education system to one that's taken years to sort, the drugs problem is the worst in Europe and health's not wonderful either.

Wannabewriter · 04/01/2021 17:02

Totally agree with you OP. It’s night and day to hear Boris and compare them.

She’s empathetic too and I have to admit I love that she’s thanked the children too for their sacrifices and told them Santa would still be able to come.

littlemissdirectional · 04/01/2021 17:04
@littlemissdirectional think you and I were watching two different broadcasts, she was incredibly clear and concise. She can’t give answers to questions that she doesn’t have the answers to herself yet though, why you’d expect her to do that is beyond me Confused
Perhaps she should have answers to basic questions because she is FM? I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect her to be able tell us how the government plan to roll out a mass vaccination programme.

She’s great and very popular in Scotland

Redyoyo · 04/01/2021 17:24

I live in Scotland I don't like her politics but i have nothing but admiration for her and the way she has dealt with the covid situation. She's not swanned off on holiday or confused the nation.
I am absolutely disgusted that mumsnet have allowed some of the posts on this thread, if any other woman in the public eye was compared to an outdated comedy act there would be outrage on here but its okay to have a free shot at Nicola Sturgeon.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 04/01/2021 17:28

'if any other woman in the public eye was compared to an outdated comedy act there would be outrage on here but its okay to have a free shot at Nicola Sturgeon.'

Oh unclench, Johnson is mocked on a daily if not hourly basis on here.

CatFaceCats · 04/01/2021 17:33

I’m Scottish and I love her.
So much better that bumbling Boris.
I think she has handled the whole situation as best she could. She is always clear and concise, doesn’t waffle and makes apologies when needed. Can anyone say that about Boris?!

Hueandcry · 04/01/2021 17:37

She's brilliant & I say that as a Scot that doesn't agree with her politics. As far as the pandemic goes I feel in safe hands with her decision making.

NoToMisogyny · 04/01/2021 17:40

She comes across well on tv but apparently the SNP is a total shit show with education in particular in a parlous state. The moment she started parroting ‘transwomen are women’ and cheered women being legislated out of existence I couldn’t believe any woman could ever vote for her. She won’t even speak out against death and rape threats against her brave colleague Joanna Cherry. Reprehensible.

PetertheWalrus · 04/01/2021 17:52

She talks a good game but running the internal affairs of 5 million is different from being PM. Boris wasn't too bad as Mayor of London which (sorry Scotland) was a bigger job.

ikswobel · 04/01/2021 17:56

Ooh @PetertheWalrus you're brave. The coastline of the west of Scotland is bigger than the French coastline. It's not all about population size, try getting from Shetland to the Borders in one day on public transport. Scotland can't be compared to London no matter who is running the country.

LadyJaye · 04/01/2021 17:57

I'm a Scottish SNP voter.

I completely agree that politics shouldn't revolve around a cult of personality, but I both like and respect our FM and trust in her integrity, unlike Westminster.

NanaRant · 04/01/2021 18:02

World Class Leader. Privileged to have her as our First Minister.

cantdothisnow1 · 04/01/2021 18:02

You mean she's not a transphobe? Good for her.

It's not transphobic to recognise that women need sex based rights, especially when it comes to refuges and medical examinations.

C0NNIE · 04/01/2021 18:03

@Chumleymouse

She’s just another wee jimmy krankie !!!!
Oops your misogyny and racism are showing.
Chloemol · 04/01/2021 18:06

Nope, she’s a horrible woman only out for herself she has no comprehension on team playing

PetertheWalrus · 04/01/2021 18:06

@ikswobel

Ooh *@PetertheWalrus* you're brave. The coastline of the west of Scotland is bigger than the French coastline. It's not all about population size, try getting from Shetland to the Borders in one day on public transport. Scotland can't be compared to London no matter who is running the country.
And miles and miles of that coastline has nobody on it (except my SIL in an isolated spot on the west coast - Hi Sue. Happy New Year!) and it is defended by the UK, - RN and Coastguard - and made safe by the Commissioners for Northern Lights - not by the Scots Govt.

The argument as to which is the bigger job Mayor or First Minister is one we've been having at Xmas for years now and my view is in no way prejudiced by being a Londoner born & bred.

Anybody who wanted to go from (say) Lerwick to Kelso could do it easily in a day via Loganair and a couple of taxis (not cheap, but you could do it).

YoniAndGuy · 04/01/2021 18:07

@PetertheWalrus

What a bizarre thing to say! Of course it's not even slightly comparable - but not the way round you have it Grin

The Mayor of London could drop into a sinkhole tomorrow and everything would go on as it did before the role was even revived. Boris was awful as Mayor, and even then London just worked around him.

Population size is a very poor indicator for anything. London's population is a big part of the reason that the engine almost runs itself. Scotland - still a young parliament, a large country with a relatively small population and issues with marginality, transport, accessibility - it's a huge job, which is part of the reason why I think the SNP have had a fairly easy ride in the public's opinion.

Lol, could you imagine Nicola as Mayor of London? She'd bloody walk it, the place would probably be independent from the rest of the UK by the time she was 6 months in!

lioncitygirl · 04/01/2021 18:07

Yuck. No thanks - Boris over her always. Hell - I’ll even take the labour leader over her.

slashlover · 04/01/2021 18:09

She has consistently spent the time political point scoring against BJ, (who I can’t stand either), usually she holds back for a day or two and then does what he does anyway.

And yet

All she does is take pleasure in trumping Boris in every announcement, she is nothing more than a crankie lookalike

People can't even agree why they dislike her.

YoniAndGuy · 04/01/2021 18:09

Don't namedrop to make you look like you know Scotland - it's clear you don't!
