People who let their dogs foul on the pavement should be banned from Pet ownership.

Another day of having to scrub dog shit off my kids shoes and my pram wheels. I am so angry with dog owners who leave dog shit everywhere. The pavements and parks near are a disgusting obstacle course, that my kids are bad at navigating.
The current penalty is £50. I don’t know if it is ever enforced.

AIBU that all dogs should be licenced to their owner with their DNA sample on record. Dog Wardens should trace poo samples to the owners. Owners get a 5k fine and are banned from dog owning.

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

Inevitably people coming on complaining about cats

My village is full of them, 4 of my neighbours have them
I've never once found cat shit near my house! Cat shit is nowhere near the issue dog shit is.

Well... Some of the dog shit complainers are actually complaining about cat and fox poo (or once, memorably, a human poo).

Not everyone has ever looked closely enough to see a difference!

BlooperReel · 04/01/2021 13:08

There is someone who I have twice caught on camera allowing their dog to walk and shit all over my front garden, woe betide them when I bum into them.

BlooperReel · 04/01/2021 13:08

Wow what a typo, obviously I meant bump not bum Grin

Crunchymum · 04/01/2021 13:09

I am a pedestrian and have a pram. Dog shit is the absolute bane of my life. One particular highlight was having to scrap shit off a pram wheel at 8pm on Xmas day (we'd just walked home from a lovely day with my family)

If I won the lottery and could give up work I'd become a vigilante who targeted people who don't clean up their own dog shit.

Sadly in my experience, people who don't clean up after their dogs aren't nice or rational human beings - they are rude people who call you a cunt when you challenge them!

FTM91 · 04/01/2021 13:45

As a dog owner (and diligent poop picker) myself, I am astounded by the mentality of dog owners who don't pick up after them.

It always seems to be enormous disgusting ones as well. Shouldn't have got a dog that big if you don't want to do the associated picking up after them. Disgusting.

Blackdog19 · 04/01/2021 13:52

I have a dog. I’ve also bought one of those poo dispensers that you hang on the lead so I can never forget poo bags (although they seem to be in every coat pocket!). But I also have a cat and I don’t know where he poos as I don’t take him for walks. I’m not sure how to deal with that one.

Randomtasks · 04/01/2021 14:07

Why is it gross to bag it and pop it to the side? I walk my dog around in a loop and he usually goes immediately at the start so I do that, then grab it on my way back (yes always!).

Well, people are obviously on about people who just leave it! Confused
CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 14:15

Well, people are obviously on about people who just leave it! No, I'm not. I am also 'on about' people who do think it's OK to drop or hang a full bag somewhere. I have a dog. I often walk him where there are no poo bins, or any bins, for quite a way. I have a poo bag hanger and hang the full bags on that. I put up with the smell, it's my dog, why wouldn't I?

Some dogs eat poo... some dogs like it best when bagged. A bag doesn't always prevent other epople's wheels, feet getting covered in dog shit. Wildlife; Forgetting it; Not finding it; All sorts of reasons.

If you have a dog pick up its poo and carry the fucking bag until you get to a bin! It's lazy and really entitled to think that anyone should have to put up with your dog's shit, bagged or not, until you can be bothered to deal with it!

Your dog: your problem. Deal with it!

LST · 04/01/2021 14:48

I'm a dog and cat owner. I pick all my dogs poo up and my cats have a litter tray that is emptied every day (poos are taken out multiple times). My cats all poo in either the litter tray or the slat in my back garden.

coffeeandjuice · 04/01/2021 14:54

Drives me mad that people think it's ok to leave a toxic substance lying around that can blind children (and adults). If kids left similar substances around that could harm dogs, I'm sure there would be all hell loose.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 04/01/2021 14:57

I’ve noticed that the streets around us are more pooey recently. Not sure if it’s more lockdown dogs or people are getting lazy/complacent about picking up after their dogs.

Either way - lock your your dogs poo you lazy sods!

EcoCustard · 04/01/2021 15:02

I have two dogs and four kids and always manage to clean up after them, sadly the same can’t be said for others in our village. One footpath, bins at both ends and it’s covered in shit, it’s also the only footpath to the village school too.

Gives me the rage tbh, YANBU.

DynamoKev · 04/01/2021 15:16

100% agree op but it should apply to cats too.

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 04/01/2021 15:18

When we were buying our current house we looked at one property that ticked all our boxes and was really lovely but the streets around were absolutely covered in dog shit and I didn't want to do the shit slalom every time I left the house. I fed that back to their estate agent as the sole reason we didn't even consider putting in an offer, I sometimes wonder if that got back to the vendors.

theemmadilemma · 04/01/2021 15:21

I'm not sure it's affordable to DNA test every random dog shit not being picked up. But I agree it should be a higher fine and somehow more enforceable. And I have 2 large dogs.

I hate it when people don't pick up. If I'm walking my dog where they are there's a high chance I'll end up stepping in it. Pick it up and take it home. It's not difficult.

I cannot believe anyone genuinely believes this is ok
Randomtasks · 04/01/2021 15:39

Ok, I'm talking about leaving it out the way, not on the path/pavement where shoes or pram wheels would go over it. I'm talking rural walks.

Lots do this in on my local dog walks and we dont really have much of an issue with poo tbh. I've never forgotten with my current dog or previous, and people clearly do collect them at the end otherwise there would be a mountain by now.

Also lol at people who think their cats only shit in their litter boxes. How can you possibly know that? Cat shit can be just as vile and they do as they please!

AvoidingNextdoorNeighbour · 04/01/2021 16:31

There may be an intention to go back and pick their dog poo bags back up after the walk but in reality? Meh. That initial good intention slips away with every step they take from the now discarded bag they're 'meaning to get later'.

There might be a handful of people who actually do return and pick the bag back up but be realistic, the majority use the 'intention' as an excuse. Once it's done it's just a bag of shite on the floor or a tree or a fence that they no longer want to go near.

LST · 04/01/2021 16:53

@randomtasks I know mine dont as they shit in my garden as well.

Cat shit is nowhere hear as problematic as dog poo on the pavements. It is also usually considerably smaller.

This thread is about dogs not cats.

My beef is with those people who think it is OK to leave the bags of poo at the bottom of a tree or hanging off a branch or just at the side of the path. I mean who do they think is going to come along and collect it ??

Mugs like me, no doubt. Every now and then I am so appalled by this in our beautiful forest that I clear all the bags in a pile under a tree that I have watched become a dog poo paean to the tree god over a few days (it is usually a tree really near the car park rather than further in the forest). The average count when I do this is about 14 bags. I pass several wastebins on the way home once I've left the forest and those who drive to it doubtless pass many more and get home quite quickly to their own dustbin. Shame on them and may they have their dustbins raided by the ghosts of the hungry foxes and other animals that they have caused to die painfully and slowly from intestines blocked with plastic.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 19:16

people clearly do collect them at the end otherwise there would be a mountain by now. Or people like me mobilise small groups and we spend a day or a week scouring the usual places and getting the town council crews to take it all away!

Next week we do the local dog safe space. It has bins aplenty. We've had a few early starters who have cleared a couple of trees - 40+ poo bags in 2 trees, less than 10m from a gate complete with a poo bin and an ordinary bin!

The most recent addition has been bloody face masks. Council crew leaves a couple of litter grabbers at the gates now, we can grab masks as we go round too!

WhiskersPete · 04/01/2021 19:24

It's everywhere and it is vile. Can't even go for a walk round here now without stepping in it.

These people walk amongst us every day. They are hideous.

pelosi · 04/01/2021 19:50

@Santaisironingwrappingpaper

Ds was watching his home cameras the other night.. Man with 3 x huge ddogs - ds watched him let them shit on his actual drive. So he had to reverse through it next day.. And he is using my bloody car!

Not the point, but I can't believe your son chose to reverse through it rather than clean it up Envy Weren't you angry at him too, Santa?
