People who let their dogs foul on the pavement should be banned from Pet ownership.

Another day of having to scrub dog shit off my kids shoes and my pram wheels. I am so angry with dog owners who leave dog shit everywhere. The pavements and parks near are a disgusting obstacle course, that my kids are bad at navigating.
The current penalty is £50. I don’t know if it is ever enforced.

AIBU that all dogs should be licenced to their owner with their DNA sample on record. Dog Wardens should trace poo samples to the owners. Owners get a 5k fine and are banned from dog owning.

I think dog owners should have to undertake an online course which covers all aspects of responsible ownership before they can buy or adopt a dog

I think executing transgressors is cheaper and more effective.

Somanysocks · 03/01/2021 16:28

What possible justification did he have for leaving dog shit on a pavement?

Well he obviously had no answer, just kept saying 'why did you do that'. I just kept saying that I was sick of treading in dog mess. I expect I didn't help matters by leaving it on his mat without the bag but he made me so angry.

He was lucky it didn't go through his letterbox. Grin

I think pet ownership should be licensed. It would just be a little bit of extra admin for the squillions of responsible pet owners who clean up after their animals, get them vaccinated, take out pet insurance etc, and it would save a lot of animals from shit owners who don't understand how much effort and/or cost is involved.

As well as the dog shit issue, it's so easy to screw up an animal by not socialising it properly when it's young, and it's so hard to find an owner willing to take a rescue with issues. Also, if you don't train an animal properly and it bites someone, it's the animal who gets put down. It's not the animal's fault (and there's often no safe alternative), but the solution punishes the animal and not the human.

Licensing pet ownership would help improve the conditions animals are kept in, with nicer pavements a fringe benefit.

@pinkstripeycat

You definately need to get CCTV camera on your property A.s.a.p...

I can't stand irresponsible dog owners
I know their in the minority
But they certainly make their presence felt .!!

Absolute Arseholes .!
I hope Karma happens to lot of them,
And they end up doing slippy on dogs Crap like a discarded banana
peel and end up doing the splits like Olympic gymnastic Pro ! 😂

HepLaurenceLB · 03/01/2021 16:36

I am surprised by the 21% who think I am being unreasonable. Are you the people that don’t pick up their dog poo? I would love someone to admit to it on here and to explain why they do it.

And who's pay for that ? Fucked if I am - you want a pet. You pay for the cost. Yes, it's true the responsible owners would pay the £100 a year (or whatever). But since we're already dealing with the scum of the earth who think nothing of polluting an entire neighbourhood, I can't see much compliance.

No. Summary execution, and the corpses left to dangle. It's the only language they understand.

1 in 5 ? Seems a fairly good reflection of real life responsible:arsehole owners to me.

[quote biddybird]I didn't know DNA testing of dogshit was even possible, but apparently it is done elsewhere.

Eviction for a second offence? Now that's my idea of a stiff deterrent.

No - execution for the first. The ultimate deterrent.

@WhatAreWordsWorth

I am sick to death of seeing this where we live. It’s absolutely vile.

A young couple walked past me and DH the other day and their dogs were behind them - DH said “excuse me, I think your dog’s going to the loo” and they just carried on. I shouted after them “are you not going to clean it up then?” and the woman mumbled at me to fuck off Hmm

We also saw a woman stopped whilst her dog was doing a shit. She did a fabulous acting job of making it look like she was trying to get a poo bag out of her pocket, then quickly scurried away once we’d walked past and left the shit there.

We all have to live in these areas. We all use these footpaths. I can only hope that the people who leave their dogs’ shit everywhere will be the ones to step in/slip in it in future.

Disgusting, and there are so many people who seem to think this is acceptable. We see it all the time.

I'm afraid to say that I'd have seen red, tracked them down and then posted it unwrapped through their letterbox.
DdraigGoch · 03/01/2021 16:42

@Lockheart

Dog owners should clean up after their dogs. When I went out the other morning I also cleaned up after two other dogs which weren't mine.

That said, I have never in my life seen a pavement (or any surface) strewn with so much dog shite that it is impossible to avoid with minimal effort. Yet in MN land everyone seems to live where the streets are ankle deep in it.

You've obviously never been to Holyhead.

You choice: you can have your eyes poked out, or try and get around in a wheelchair.

Then come back in a weeks time and tell us all how easy it was to "avoid with minimal effort".

Thinking of the less able. It used to be a thing.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 03/01/2021 17:10

In the borough of Westminster the fine is £500, but you still get the occasional transgressor.

You wouldn't get any if it was the long drop for the first offence.

Well, you might get one. But none thereafter ....

HepLaurenceLB · 03/01/2021 17:31

If everyone with video footage of offenders in action (ring doorbell, mobile phone) uploaded to their local local FB page maybe we could start to name and shame. If the offenders are capable of shame.

Since the OP didn't mention any mobility or sight issues, I am assuming she doesn't have any and therefore they are irrelevant to her thread. I am happy to be corrected if you have other information.

I have previously posted about a good friend of mine who is blind and has a guide dog. I haven't namechanged; you can search to your heart's content. I don't need to be lectured about thinking of the less able.

Roselilly36 · 03/01/2021 17:50

I totally agree, disgusting, in our area it used to be unusual to see dogs mess, but of late it has really been a problem, why the owners aren’t picking up I don’t know.

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/01/2021 18:03

It's very doggy here but theres very little shit on the pavements.

A bit more on certain fields (not playing fields, actual field fields) but on the whole I'd say most people here pick up or stick and flick where appropriate.

We DO however have a LOT of foxes and badgers and I'd say half the pavement poo I come across is fox or badger territorial shittings rather than dog, but it still isn't frequent.

I don't understand the mentality of those who leave shit, some of it is people whose dogs are free range or off lead and they didn't see where the dog shit, but much of it is people who wander along and pointedly ignore the shitting occurring. And yet they too would be furious if they stood in it!

I manage to pick up turds from as many as six dogs (we are down to four now), despite being a wheelchair user -I have a stick grabber poop scoop and a bottle of water with a sports cap I can squirt should it leave a smear.

It fills me with even MORE rage as a dog owner, as we ALL get the blame, I have never knowingly left a shit un-collected in my LIFE, I wouldn't want to roll through it and have it on my wheels, my car, my HANDS... ugh!

Catch and burn the shit abandoners. Thats what I say!

megletthesecond · 03/01/2021 18:08

Yanbu.
It's got really bad in our area lately.
There's an elderly chap who lets his two dogs poop everywhere including the play area Angry. I've told the council twice and nothing has happened.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 03/01/2021 18:12

When my children were small we had a special brush for cleaning poo off shoes it happened that often. Including one memorable occasion when we told the toddler to mind the poo and he said "no I'm going to step in this one ON PURPOSE".
Arrgh.

If there was a dog poo DNA database I'd volunteer to send off samples because then when the phantom shitter leaves another huge pile on the pavement outside the primary school, for example, I'd know I'd be helping them to get a fine / community dog poo picking service etc.

GhostPepperTears · 03/01/2021 18:23

I agree, I should be allowed to shit on the offending do owner's
Fair enough. Fits the proportionality test Grin

userxx · 03/01/2021 18:25

Loads of dog shit around my area too, it's rank.

muddyford · 03/01/2021 18:34

Round here it's cats. I see them every morning, crapping on the verges and on front lawns. They even crap on the roads, including one right behind my car.

Oh, that was you was it, well for your information they were brand-new, white, Adidas Yeezy trainers and it took our boot boy two hours of spit and polish 🤮 to clean off.
