People who let their dogs foul on the pavement should be banned from Pet ownership.

Another day of having to scrub dog shit off my kids shoes and my pram wheels. I am so angry with dog owners who leave dog shit everywhere. The pavements and parks near are a disgusting obstacle course, that my kids are bad at navigating.
The current penalty is £50. I don’t know if it is ever enforced.

AIBU that all dogs should be licenced to their owner with their DNA sample on record. Dog Wardens should trace poo samples to the owners. Owners get a 5k fine and are banned from dog owning.

Start with a dog registration scheme, and restrictions on dogs in flats and small houses. Having a dog is lovely but not a human right.

TheEchtMeaningOfChristmas · 03/01/2021 20:01

Where I live, dogs have to be registered annually and you can't have more than two. You can be fined on the spot for not having your dog on the lead or for not carrying several poo-bags.

There are tons of dogs here; I thought I'd moved to Paris, but not much dog poo, though any all is too much.

wingsandstrings · 03/01/2021 20:03

yep, if people get dogs and: don't clean up their poo; allow them to bark excessively and disturb the neighbourhood; don't put them on the lead when signs clearly say to do so; or don't muzzle them in public if they have ever nipped another dog or human . . . . they should have their dogs taken away.

Katjolo · 03/01/2021 20:05

I agree OP.

littlepattilou · 03/01/2021 20:25

@HepLaurenceLB ARGHHHHHHHHHHH! I AM SO WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where I live (a village with around 500 people, and a couple of miles in length and width, from end to end,) I see dogshit on our footpaths at LEAST once or twice a week. I don't know when they do it, but I think it's mostly at night when they can't be seen.

Between my house and the one at the end of my road (some 100 yards/300 feet,) me and my neighbour counted SEVEN piles of dog shit the other week. We are sick of it.

I have trod in it a number of times, whilst putting the wheelie bin out, whilst walking down the road to the little shop, and whilst going out to trim the bushes outside in the summer. Several times I have dragged it into the house! Angry

I don't buy it that the dogs cannot help where they shit either, because they never EVER do it when me or DH (or any of our neighbours,) are stood at the top of our driveway watching them!

I see them stop, but the owner pulls them away, and they shoot off down the road. So they DON'T have to let the dog do it on the footpath. And anyway, why do they not pick it up with a pooper scooper, and bag it up and take it home?!

I saw someone suggest a few remedies (on here) to stop dogs shitting on the footpath near your house. I will see if I can find the thread. Or google it! Nothing to hurt the dogs (obvs!) but just something to 'deter' them.

And yeah it is horrible for people with pushchairs, and wheelchairs... And also elderly people, and people with limited eyesight. One woman (with limited eyesight,) who lives down my road told me a few weeks ago, that she steps in dog shit sometimes, and the stick she uses to help her walk, gets covered in it too. It's so vile. There are warning signs around the village, but it doesn't seem to stop people letting their dogs shit all over the footpaths.

Vile, inconsiderate, filthy pigs. If I catch them, I will hose the fuckers down where they stand! I NEVER seem to bastard catch them though!

HepLaurenceLB · 03/01/2021 22:49

I am still baffled by the 20% that disagree with me. Do you like the pavements being covered in shit?

YoniAndGuy · 03/01/2021 23:06

There was once an absolutely amazing thread where the OP described being given an absolute mouthful by a woman she'd just seen letting her dog shit and not picking up. They were at a cafe, or just approaching a cafe or something, and the woman took a seat outside, tied up dog and went in to order, so the OP picked up the shit and tucked it into the hood of the woman's coat which she'd put on the back of the chair!!!

YESSSSSSSSS Grin

YoniAndGuy · 03/01/2021 23:07

Think there were other people who witnessed the mouthful also saw her do this and grinned and said nothing. Awesome.

WonderMoon · 03/01/2021 23:09

YANBU, I was thinking about something similar the other day after my DD nearly stepped in a massive pile of crap in the park near my house. I have to literally check the ground before she can run around freely as recently, I've been finding big piles of it in the grass. It really angers me!

There is also a guy who often lets his dog poo right outside peoples gates on our street. Right outside the gates...its like he does it on purpose. I've seen his dog doing it. The man is really rough and not someone you would confront, a few of us have reported him though. I've not seen him in a while actually but I wish I was brave enough to tell him he's a dirty lazy shit.

If you cannot be arsed to pick up your dogs shit, you are not a responsible owner, therefore you should not own a dog. Simple.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 03/01/2021 23:09

The 20% are pavement poo-leavers and those who dangle plastic bags in bushes, obviously. You'll not get someone owning up to it though.

I did always wonder, when walking round the dog-poo field where we used to live, it was a popular walking route for locals with dogs and without, and always plenty of poo. So regular culprits would presumably have to dodge the piles of poo they left there on previous days. Do they not mind? Never step in it?

littlepattilou · 03/01/2021 23:14

😂😂😂

BRILLIANT!

That is exactly what I would have done to the woman!

EXACTLY! Grin

babbafett · 03/01/2021 23:16

I agree its disgusting. Its especially horrendous for those in wheelchairs who may not be able to remove it without help.
It happens to my pram so regularly that I keep shower caps in the boot of the car. I clean the main dirt off as I can and then pop the shower caps around the wheels so it doesn't destroy the car on the way home where I can properly clean them (which takes bloody forever!)

Dullardmullard · 03/01/2021 23:42

Many moons ago we had one dog that shit in my garden a smallish breed not a giant one like mine and I was puzzled by it every morning and every evening a shit would appear.

So I invested in a wee camera and caught the fukker who surprise surprise worked for the bloody council.

I sent the video in to the council after giving him his dog shit back with how do you know it’s mine and I told him I had proof when he went on the aggressive stance. Full on screaming at me he’d make my life a misery from now on etc etc. His dog bite him then. I felt so bloody sorry for the dog and did report him to the dog warden in case he harmed the wee thing.

Small village so i found out the fukker had been sacked as he was already under investigation for other transgressions.

So I’d hang the fukkers too it’s bloody minging and no need just pick it bloody up

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 04/01/2021 00:08

YANBU !

My ds had special needs, I'll never forget when he was about 8 or so his new trainers getting absolutely caked in dog poo, we had him sat on the step and he was so upset. He kept trying to wipe the poo off his trainers with his hands and I was obviously stopping him. As he was crying he kept trying to touch his face it was awful. I ended up having to shout his dad so he could help restrain him as I pulled his trainers off and wiped his hands.

All that upset just because some selfish bastards think common decency doesn't apply to them. 🙄

Mutunus · 04/01/2021 00:47

It's usually worse in winter round here, the dark nights conceal the crime I guess, but a couple of weeks ago around about midday someone let their dog dump literally right outside our shop door . Of course it all got trampled in and I ended up having to close the shop for 15 minutes to clean the floor and mats as well as wash down the pavement.

LightDrizzle · 04/01/2021 00:51

Yes. Pram wheels and shoes are bad enough but DD has a a self propel wheelchair and SEN ...
I’ve advocated on here before for compulsory Licensing and DNA registration so shit can be traced to dog owners and stiff fines levied. They should be able to be deducted from pay or benefit, no exceptions.

I was once caught short on poo bags while out when my dog did three poos over the walk and I had stupidly only brought two bags. I went straight home to pick up a bag and return to clear it up. Luckily nobody had stepped in it.
I no longer have a dog but I’ve seen a lot of walkers with poo bag dispensers that are attached to the lead I think. A brilliant idea.

AvoidingNextdoorNeighbour · 04/01/2021 01:15

There is a complete dickhead who allows his or her dog to shit at our village primary school gates every day. After my two year old trod through it, got in our brand new car (less than a few months old!) she walked over the back seats, then standing on hers to get sat down and putting her feet on the back of my chair, I could have happily punched the person who left the shit.
My daughter was horrified, screaming and crying about the shit that was now all over her clothes, my car seats and her own car seat. It took two packets of wipes and my daughter's chair covers and pads stripped off as well as my daughter in just her underwear before we could leave.
It's been 9 years and the same shit from presumably the same dog is there waiting most mornings. First few kids miss it but by the time almost 200 pupils have walked it it's an almost unavoidable smear down the whole pavement.
The school fence is covered in banners about dog fouling and this arsehole is STILL walking there every morning or night leaving poo behind.
I wish someone would identify them as I would love to post their shit back through their letterbox!

Baileysoncereal · 04/01/2021 01:24

I agree with you it’s disgusting

But I have about 8 cat shits in my own garden right now (including one right in the middle of the drive way!!) and not a single dog shit
And so I am far more offended by cat owners who buy a cat and then leave it outside to roam and shit everywhere all day every day, making their pet everyone else’s problem.

This is all cats, vs a small handful of bad dog owners IMO

TheNestedIf · 04/01/2021 03:57

I think some posters on this thread are being totally unreasonable about dog owners who don't pick up after their animals. Hanging is far too good for them.

I would like to see them all stitched together like the Human Centipede. "New offender? Follow me to the rear, please."

changedmynameforChristmas · 04/01/2021 04:04

I have a dog. She does most of her poos in the garden. When I take her out I carry bags and if she does anything I scoop it up and either put it in the bins provided or take it home.

My beef is with those people who think it is OK to leave the bags of poo at the bottom of a tree or hanging off a branch or just at the side of the path. I mean who do they think is going to come along and collect it ??

It's the same breed of people who go to a pubic park and leave their picnic /barbecue rubbish behind.

Why can't people take responsibility for their rubbish?

I know right. What's THAT about? I mean, who DOES that? Confused Leaving the plastic poo bags hanging on a tree branch. Weird. And annoying.

And yeah, it is the sort who leave their crap behind at the park or the beach. They're the same twats who throw crap out of the car window into the bushes at the side of the road, who play their music full blast in their house, who park directly opposite your driveway so you can't get out of yours (or into it,) who smoke right outside a doorway (even when there's a sign saying 'no smoking within 50 yards of this doorway,) who let their dogs bark for hours on end in the garden, and who start banging and knocking (doing house repairs,) at 7am on a bank holiday, and are still doing it at 11pm.

In short; selfish, inconsiderate, obtuse, self-absorbed arseholes, who were clearly raised in a barn.

Spidey66 · 04/01/2021 12:45

I think the reason people put it on branches is to collect it on their way back. Still wrong and minging, and not something a responsible dog owner like myself would do, but that's the reasoning behind it.

Somanysocks · 04/01/2021 12:56

There's a poo fairy, don't you know.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 13:00

As a dog owner I agree with your sentiment.

We are about to do Poo Hunt (again). Wander round town, bag up any 'wild' poos and drop them in a box in the middle of town - lots of signs explaining what we are doing; free poo bags, some scoopers this time too!

The town work crew weighs it at the end of the week and that sign causes some REAL outrage! Lockdown seems to have made it much worse!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 04/01/2021 13:03

Inevitably people coming on complaining about cats

My village is full of them, 4 of my neighbours have them
I've never once found cat shit near my house! Cat shit is nowhere near the issue dog shit is.
